I still think its stupid, with august celestials you can get the golden flying mount like that.. so to make it that you have to farm crystals and get rep is stupid.
It's not stupid. It makes it really rare and hard to get. Only the most dedicated people are going to get it. Unlike the last few rare spawn mounts where any old lucky person could grab the mount.
Not really the dedication is in farming for the shards in the first place, not making you have to do rep and waiting a month and a half until you can even get it. First you have to get revered with golden lotus then exaulted with august celestials.. which most people will do anyways so all this does is make people who are avid mount collectors and who farmed so hard for crystals wait for quite sometime before they can even use the mount.
Maybe im just annoyed cause I was so excited to grind for this rare and not having to deal with people and camping.. and then reality hits I still cant use it until exaulted lol
Just hit exalted with Golden Lotus. Not only got my 489 necky from the quest, but 3 new crane mounts for my collection.

I farmed the Mogu around the Golden Stairs and the Tricksters for my Skyshards.
I am so freaking jealous right now you have no idea! >.< You must have so much spare time to get exalted with these factions so quickly. I'm only just about to be level 90! But the Onyx Cloud Serpent and the Blue Shado-Pan Tiger are basically the two mounts I want most right now. But congratulations! Such beautiful mounts. :3
Just hit exalted with August Celestials today after getting back from Youmacon 2012, which means now not only can I mount up on my Alani mount, but also on the Thundering August Cloud Serpent. xD
After learning how to solo Bloodlord Mandokir in ZG, I decided to give it a go and see how far I would get. 2 runs later on my 3rd try he drops the mount, let's see if my luck will get me the panther now.
