Exotic Skills for BM non exotic pets

Unread post by pop »

Yeah I know, here I go again talking about wanting extra skills for BM non exotic pets. I guess it really bothers me that my wolf can be considered inferior to Devilsaur or Quillen or Water Strider, or how my spider can never compete with a silithid if either I'm soloing or pvping without the aid from a priest, warrior or a warlock, or how I wish my bat can be something extra, just like my shale spider.

A lot of people talk about how it is hard to balance if we give BM's non exotic pets an extra skill, but what if the 'exotic' skills given to them are non-combat skills; useful utility spells that does not directly an outcome in either pve output or pvp? These are few some of my ideas, some of which are scrapped from the idea of giving all pets bonus skills that I had previously.

Here are some examples;
a.Food Table (aka Conjure Refreshment Table)
Family; Wasp
Spell name: Honey Comb Hive
5 Focus
3 sec cast 1 min cooldown
Conjures a Honey Comb Hive. Raid members can click the table to acquire Conjured Honey Comb.
The tables lasts for 3 min or 50 charges.

Conjured Honey Comb
Conjured Item
Unique (80)
Requires Level 65
Item Level 65
Use: Restores 7500 health and 7200 mana over 30 sec. Must remain seated while eating.
Max Stack: 20

b. Archaeology Buff
Family; Dog, Wolf, Boar
Spell Name: Sniff
Your pet sniffs for fragments, increasing your Archaelogy skill by 10, and your pet helps you to retrieve the artifact.

c. Fishing Buff
Family; Bear, Cat, Bird of Prey
Spell Name:Salmon Hunt
Increase your fishing skills by 10 and your pet will auto help you catch when your lure bobs.

d.Cooking Buff
Family: Dragon Hawk;
Spell Name; Hearth Fire
Your pet will automatically create a patch of cooking fire whenever you start to cook, and decreases your cooking time by 25%.

e. Lock Picking
Family; Gorilla, Monkey
Spell Name; Apostable Thumb
Your pet helps you to pick any lock boxes

f.Portal/Teleport
Family; Warp Stalker
Spell Name; Unstable Dimension Warp
Your pet will teleport you to anywhere within the zone, randomly. Cannot be used while in combat.

g.Underwater breathing and faster swim
Family; Crab, Crocolisk, Turtle
Spell Name; Air Bubble
Engulf your head in an air bubble, enabling you to breath underwater and help you to swim more effortlessly!

f.Slow Fall/Levitate
Family; Wind Serpent, Nether Ray, Sporebat
Spell Name; Bio-luminescent Dust/Spore, Anti-Gravity Static w/e
Levitates and also makes you glow in the dark. Breaks when damaged.

g.'Special camp/nest for you to rest; unique to hunters
Family; Spider, Moth, Raptor, tallstrider
Spell Name; Chrysalis Weaving/Nesting
Your pet builds a nest where you will feel rested and helps you heal faster from first aid, or eating. Can only be used outside of battle. 5 minute cooldown.

While these are not bad suggestions....who told you the wolf was inferior to a Devilsaur? It's not. They're the same, hun. They both bring the buff. The extra ability the Devilsaur has isn't useful in most situations, tbh.

Although widow venom is seldomly used in pve, it is quite useful not to have to manually shooting widow venom in pvp, hence as a bm hunter, a wolf can be 'inferior' to a devilsaur. While it is not useful in most or not all situation, a devilsaur is more useful than a wolf in all situation by that same argument. I know semantics right? lol

Some beasts I have trouble finding suitable skills;

Beetle ; Dung feast anyone? lol

Carrion Bird; Table of Carcass?

I was also thinking, instead of chrysalis weaving, spiders should maybe instead give a web-parachute buff instead?

I'm afraid I don't follow since spiders =/= wolves or devilsaurs. I feel that's comparing apples to oranges. I've used a wolf and devilsaur on multiple accounts. There's no difference between them. The buff the same(crit) and do the same damage. That's all that's really needed, imho. The extra stuff is just for fluff. They don't make or break the pet.

While I'm not against other pets getting an exotic ability only BMs obtain, I just feel your reasoning behind it isn't the right one. It comes off as the Devilsaur is better in every way when it really isn't. If I am misunderstanding this, please clarify. :)

Pop already explained this, but you didn't listen. In PvP, where every global counts, having a free healing debuff gives the devilsaur an advantage over a wolf. Period. Heck, in arena, a devilsaur trumps a quilen every time as well because you can't use your battle res - that puts quilen on the same level as wolves in that regard.

@Pop: I see where you're going with this, but when you use a PvP example to back up your case, then make a bunch of ability suggestions that are general quality of life perks, your argument gets muddied. Based on your suggestion for wolves, devilsaurs would still trump them in PvP.

But then, that wasn't your original argument anyway; it got derailed. Your original suggestion would have wolves more ready to compete with the utility of a water strider. In that context, these are some fascinating ideas, although I personally am a little wary of hunters getting too many perks and gaining an advantage in too many areas, since we already have access to every buff and debuff in the game, plus most of the utility abilities!

It's not that I didn't listen. I misunderstood and I was getting very confused with his statements. To me it seemed like he was jumping between pvp and pve. I don't pvp much so I don't know too much in that regard(and most hunters I know use spiders when pvping anyway in BGs rather than a Devilsaur whether BM or not). PvE wise though, I didn't see much of a difference between wolves or devilsaurs. But thank you for clarifying the pvp stuff. Learned a few new things! :)

What I want to point out is that A devilsaur would have a perk when it comes to pvp or in a fight where you need to use widow venom, a quillen is a handdy tool in a raid or if you are in a party, a water strider is an awesome pet while in watery area or with a caster in your raid/party so with the idea of a wolf that can sniff, its perk is to when you wantto level archaeology as to the suggestion.

Yup, your suggestion is very much in line with those, especially the water strider. My personal issue is that I think hunters already get a LOT of options that other classes simply don't have just by running out and taming a pet, which is why my concern is of balance. :)

Could see this happen. It really would be a nice addition!

Can't see any of this ones happening. Honestly.

Really would be nice if it happened, reminds me when mages had Khadgar's unlocking

Not a bad idea, but I think I would see this more as a blink/glyph of blink combination.

Totally!

Meh, not really attractive imo. Would give some mortal strike to nether ray and give the wind serpent serpent swiftness too (10% attack speed increase). Sprebats already have Mind quickening.

Omigosh, it's Final Fantasy once again!

Well, I've always thought that if we can't any fun stuff like mage table, giving widow venom to all of bm non exotic pets and give a 'fear' skill to be Devilsaur would be a grand idea :)
