This is an ability that doesn't render you invincible, it causes, from my understanding, an LoS warning to trigger, which then forces mobs to move to a point where they can attack you. It's not an immunity or a 100% chance to dodge or parry, it works unlike anything we currently have.
Well the underlining factor is that it is immune (100%) to ranged attacks. A smart coder wouldn't depend on just a ui factor.

Except they aren't 100% immune to ranged attacks, ranged AoE can still effect them. See where this is starting to get difficult? *Chuckles* It's just the combination of so many factors that I'd think would make it a very, very difficult ability to code. And c'mon, we all know Blizzard. If it comes down to really having to work to fix something or removing it, they'll remove it.

*Small note: I also know very little about the technicalities of what goes on. I am just assuming that trying to do so many different things at once, several of which have unique aspects as far as abilities go, might be a tad on the difficult side.

AOE isn't tied directly to range, that's why you can have pets immune to AOE.

I THINK there is a difference in ranged AoE, magic AoE, and melee AoE, but don't bet me on that. They also still have the basic tags, since for example Volley is ranged phyiscal AoE damage, while rain of fire or Blizzard are magic AoE damage, and whirlwind is physical melee AoE damage. The difference's come in damage caluclation, critical modifiers, and damage reduction, dodge, and parry chance. Ranged damage can't be dodged but it can miss, while magic damage can't be blocked or dodged but can miss, while physical damage can be blocked, dodged, and parried, but can only be dodged if you arebehin the target/ Also, you have certain types of AoE that bypass pet damage reduction. And what pet's are you refering to, being immune to AoE?

I was referring to Warlock pets over level 65.

The schematics to game damage can be extremely complex. Let's say each type of damaging move has a checklist of what it is and what it is modified by.

Volley
-AOE
-Ranged Physical
-Effected by Attack Power
-Effected by Hit Rate
-Effected by Crit
-Effected by target miss rate
-Effected by armor mitigation
...well, you get the idea.

I was actually interested in making a little game code, but I want to know how to code a GUI first, which can be way more confusing.

Warlock pet's are the same as hunter pet's, they are still effected by AoE damage to the same degree, same goes for all pet's, even temporary ones. If it can be counted as a pet for any length of time then it automatically come's with avoidance, and attempts to get behind it's target.

But yes, that. *LAUGHS* Now consider all the different little thing's they'd have to tweak to make Preview-Camo do exactly what they wanted reliably. Remember that as short a time ago as Wrath, they weren't even able to get certain mechanics to work the way they wanted, like heroic leap, which they then scrapped. Now heroic leap is coming back again, but is basically just a massively damaging ((Relatively speaking)) version of charge and thunderstomp. If they can't figure out how to make heroic leap, which was a targeted movement AoE work reliably, then I have serious doubts about this version of camo.

BUT, my usual disclaimer, those're just my thoughts on it

I think they wanted heroic leap in the game since launch. It was a D2 move, and many of the beginning concepts of WOW were taken from the Diablo series.

They were having a lot of problems not only getting it to work right, but also with warriors being able to climb places they shouldn't have been climbing to. *Laughs* So it was technical difficulty meets player difficulty, and I am sure that was a ton of fun.

Haha, yeah, don't forget Blink, Rocket Boots, and what else. Good times getting to places blizzard doesn't want.

Blink is a lot of fun, lemme tell you. There are times when I blink on seemingly flat surfaces, and basically take a step forward. And forget blinking on any kind of really uneven places. I am guessing that was all massive nerfage after people blinked into no mans land on to many times.
