My first thought was "That's......kinda low." but then I remembed that you get mastery for wearing the right kind of gear, for one, and there is a mastery stat, for another.

Hmm... I'm not really sure what to make of this...

Ah well, at least we'll still have ArP, even if it comes by Mastery. Guess stacking +Mastery gear will be what we have to do when we gear up.

No, you get a certain amount of ArP per Mastery. I don't really understand it either. xD
Apparently, Mastery provides a number of buffs, look at it as our common stats together as one stat.

Mastery provides three buffs, two standard and one that is special for each spec. What you see there is the point per talent point that you are buffed by mastery, and then you have the current top end value at fifty one points. However you also get mastery for the first two standard buffs just by wearing the right kind of gear, hunters wearing mail, rogues wearing leather, and that mastery is most likely effected by Ilvl so that it scales even at 85. Further, there is a new stat on gear CALLED mastery, and that stat boosts the THIRD and unique mastery bonus.

I have to admit the whole beast master Mastery kind of confuses me. GC said they didn't want the majority of any hunter's damage to come from the pet, and what do they give BM hunters as the special knob to turn to ramp up their viability if they're lagging behind damage-wise?

More pet damage.

Huh? o.O

Hopefully once beta gets going we can see some details that will make Mastery and its associated systems make more sense.

I'd have been PISSED if that hadn't been our mastery, Tahilan. That's WHY you go beast master, to focus more on your pet and less on personal damage. Theoretically speaking in Cataclysm our pet's are supposed to be around thirty percent of our overall damage, but that can easily be tweaked via mastery. Still, looking at it, 20% seem's low, but then you toss in that our pet's will be recieving 100% of our stats, and then you have the mastery stat, and suddenly it doesn't seem as low as it used to.

Yeah but the thing is isn't this just the focus of our pet dps talents combined? So it's not so imba once you realize that, mean if I remember right they said they were taking ALOT of the pet boosting talents out of BM weren't they?

Meaning it's not so epic once you realize it's just like pre nerf BM :/

pets getting 100% of our stats would be win tho.

Edit: I also have a bad feeling about the fact they added an extra 3% to our ranged DPS mastery. Cause if this is their solution.. ._.

That's why I said it felt a bit low, Ryai. Adding up the combined DPS increase of talents in the BM tree, it comes to 45% damage increase for pets, which means that at level sixty, our pets are losing 25% of their damage just off of talents. Then you have the uncomfortable fact that presumably, they'll be losing that 20% attack speed increase from the hunter talent as well, since that is being built into mastery, which doesn't seem to effect the pet.

I think that early on, this will end up being a pretty big nerf for BM, but later on, as in at 85 and with a lot of mastery, it'll wind up being a buff. Just my prediction.

Bur if people haven't been shaken out of the mindset that BM = waste of a raid slot before 85, it isn't going to look good for those who are trying to PuG.

I'm hoping that what we see put into the BM tree is a lot more "spells" - in other words, buttons to push that involve both hunter and pet. The attack speed talent may stay in. I don't think the flat damage increase one will, and I don't think that the +stam and + armor ones will. I have a suspicion Serpent's Switftness might stay, because then it may be that BM regens a lot of focus because they have a lot of abilities to use...but those abilities might hit more lightly than say, the giant crits from Marks hunters. It'd sort of make sense that way.

I don't think serpents swiftness is staying because one of our mastery talents is haste. I do think you might be right about armor and health boosts staying, but that kind of seems to defeat the purpose of getting rid of passive boosters.

Ultimately, we are going to have to actually see the changes in place and play with them a bit before we really know what's going on. I don't quite feel right complaining about the masteries, but if they are going to replace the former passive effects then they really need to be up to re*placing them. What it seem's like to me is that they are trying to make end game stats mean more without having them blow everything out of proportion. The end result is probably going to be an overall nerf to anyone not aiming for at least some end game equipment. What we were getting for free before just for taking certain talents are now becoming something that is based on another stat that we'll need to stack. This does not apply to everyone, mind you, but beast master in particular seem's to have caught this stick particularly hard in the face.

We shall see, I suppose.
