FCC set to drop ban on f-word, nudity on television and radi

My personal thoughts on this is that there is far worse on tv then simple nudity right now.Kids likely hear far worse then the F word, or S word just going about their daily thing. It's almost impossible to avoid in this day and age, so I don't see this making much of a difference. You can always chose parental controls, but kids being kids.. If they really want to watch something, they will find way to do it.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced it is considering dropping current broadcast decency standards that ban explicit profanity and "non-sexual" nudity.

Specifically, if enacted, the new FCC policy would allow network television and local radio stations to air the f-word, the s-word and to allow programs to show frontal female nudity, even during hours when they know children will be watching and listening.

It is accepting comments on the proposal from the viewing public until the end of April.

Current broadcast decency law prohibits expletives and nudity, even if brief or "fleeting." The Supreme Court has upheld the law as constitutionally enforceable by the FCC, despite lawsuit attempts by networks NBC and FOX to overturn it.

Submit your comments to the FCC, urging it to reject any changes to the current policy.

The FCC will not accept general email comments. To be valid, you are required to file a formal comment via the FCC's website.

Please follow these instruction carefully, to insure your comment is accepted by the FCC:

I oppose any changes to the current FCC indecency standards that would allow television and radio stations to broadcast expletives and nudity on the public airwaves, even if brief or "fleeting."

The Supreme Court has confirmed the FCC&'s authority to enforce policies regarding expletives and nudity, especially during times when children are likely to be watching or listening.

Relaxing the current policy would not serve the public interest and I urge the FCC to reject all proposals that would allow for the broadcast of expletives and nudity on FCC-licensed stations.

I've cussed around my niece and nephew. I try not to but it slips cause for me it's common tongue. But either way, she's exposed to it. And really....the internet exposes you to SO much worse than simple cussing and nudity.

Um, that link looks like it goes to the American Family Association, so I'd take anything on that site with a grain of salt. Remember, the AFA is the group who got upset at JC Penney for having Ellen DeGeneres in their ads because she's a lesbian, called for a boycott of Dicks Sporting Goods because they used 'holiday' instead of 'Christmas' in their advertising, complained about Chase bank not having Christmas trees in the lobby of all its branches, and accused Sears of being a pornographer because sears.com sold some posters of women in swimsuits.

I'd not put anything past them when it comes to trying to get site hits and publicity.

That appears to be referring to isolated incidents of nudity and profanity. Those are the ones that get on the air unintentionally, such as a the rather notorious 'wardrobe malfunction' or when someone uses profanity and it either gets past a censor or isn't caught in a live broadcast's 7 second delay. People file complaints with the FCC and they have to investigate them and make a determination as to whether the broadcaster should be fined. The document in that link is basically the FCC calling for feedback and asking "Should we say 'okay that was a mistake and CBS/ABC/NBC/whoever didn't actually intend to broadcast someone saying "f*ck* on the air?"

The AFA is trying to present this as the FCC saying that they want to allow the use of any profanity as well as full nudity all the time. That does not, however, appear to be the FCC's intent at all.
