I'm surprised too. I had no clue it was a flying mount but damn is it awesome... I can't wait to get this mount!

The fact that it can fly made me wonder if they changed their minds about hook wasps (which were announced at Blizzcon to be a mount candidate) and re-channeled the art to become a new ravager. But as far as we know they haven't changed their minds. Assuming hook wasps are still on the way I wonder if the art will have some similarities, like silithids and silithid wasps do.

So the bug is a Grinning Reaver and the horse is a Warforged Nighmare.

There appears to be a 'Hitching Post' to go along with the Nightmare, allowing your party to temporarily turn their mounts into Nightmares too, but I am unsure how that interacts with the actual Warforged Nightmare which appears to be a legit mount and not a consumable. I'm unsure how one could put an 'on use' on a mount given that mounts no longer have any existence as an item ingame.

If its a store mount, maybe if you buy it, you also get a 'Hitching Post' toy, or a stack of them or something. Confusement.

someday I'll find someplace to host a sig that isn't stupid money-grubbing photobucket

Well, it makes sense that they would not introduce a flying mount with no flying...

And.. we still haven't seen Hook Wasp art..

But the Ravager can fly. :b

I doubt it. No, actually, I'm sure this is not the case.

This because the three families have recently been datamined and confirmed by Muffinus. Which were: Hydras, Riverbeasts and Dragonflies/Hook wasps(exotic).

And this creature will be a tameable pet of the Ravager family. Therefore it's impossible that one is a substitute for the other. If Muffinus had said it will be a part of the Dragonfly family, I would have agreed.

.. Or did you just mean that they might not become mounts?

We will have to wait and see. The fact that we have not seen anything modelwise to do with the wasps yet is a bit odd.

Still the unarmoured model looks even less ravagerish and more like some sort of OL silithid. XD

Yeah, I was just wondering if they'd changed their minds after that announcement :) It happens now and then. The fact they announced hook wasps early but no model has appeared subsequently (it's still early, I know!), yet this waspy-silithidy kind of thing shows up just made me wonder. It could also be something along the lines of what they'd originally envisaged for a "dragonfly" mount but they made it a ravager instead and the hook wasp art is now taking a different direction. So it was all just idle speculation on my part ;). It would just seem unexpected to me (though not impossible) they'd divide their already heavy workloads into two different kinds of nasty flying bug mount right from the start of the expansion.

Well, I doubt it, because the ravager was very likely created quite a long time before Muffinus confirmed that we'd be getting those three new families. And if that was true, why would he so explicitly say that Dragonflies would be a tameable family, if he knew that idea had already changed? I'm staying skeptical concerning your speculation, but that's just me. :)

Also, we have that PvP bow, which is a lot different from the Ravager and uses parts of the Dragonfly that were cut off after death.

As well you should! It's purely idle musing :)

I must go back and have a look at that bow again.

Ugh, I do not like what they have done to ravagers, if that is indeed what they will look like now. It looks like a silithid. I love the uniqueness of ravagers, and they ruined them, imho. Now they just look like a higher detailed silithid. This is just the further nail in my not-coming-back-to-wow coffin :(

they aren't REPLACING the old ones with the new one or anything.

Yeah I don't get how they 'ruined them' when the old ones are still about... They're not going anywhere...

I still don't get why people are being so dramatic about this. They could give many, many reasons for the appearance of these ravagers and the discrepancy between their appearance and that of the ravagers we know today. Evolutionary degradation through magic or environmental evolutionary pressures. These ravagers being a cousin-species of the familiar ravager whose prey died out when Tanaan turned into Hellfire Peninsula, causing a shortage of nourishment, which lead to their extinction.

Basically anything. People are panicking too early. Blizzard didn't even try to explain them yet, and people are already freaking out about them.

Plus the old Ravagers are going nowhere. They will remain tameable, and will remain the way they are.

It is a big deal for people who love the old ravagers. I would love a more detailed version of one of those, with its proper skeleton. Instead, we get a silithid wannabe. I have every right to be disappointed.

I still think a OL ravager mount would be 100 times better then this one XD

And you're certainly entitled to that opinion. I don't think anyone would dare to dispute that. In my opinion, it would be nice to see an updated ravager model that is more similar to the current-day ravager.

Tulune wrote:It is a big deal for people who love the old ravagers. I would love a more detailed version of one of those, with its proper skeleton. Instead, we get a silithid wannabe. I have every right to be disappointed.

I don't see how it is. It seems like you feel slighted by this. The old ones are not being removed. Sure I would like to see the old model updated as well, but saying or acting like it's a cheap silithid knock-off is pretty unfair. It has many unique animations, and many modified animations. (to look more up-to-date, and less choppy)

And you can be disappointed, but it was not like we were promised a ravager. I actually never expected there to be any new ravager model at all, and was pleasantly surprised by this. Perhaps it's best if you take a fresh look at it. It's an unbelievably awesome model and skeleton, and certainly not a silithid knock-off.

Calling it a silithid knock-off is like saying the Swift Windsteed is a Stag rip-off because it shares skeletons.

Discussion of the new ravager that isn't related to it as a mount should probably move to another thread. Please.

On the alpha the Grinning Reaver and Warforged Nightmare are both available in the Blizzard Store app, just like the Skyreaver was on the previous PTR. That doesn't mean they will be when live... it's not impossible they're just making them available for testing via there... but it currently seems likely.

Both fly. The ravager is kind of cute flying. It reminds me of a bumblebee.
