Hah! That is so sad, yet so funny!

I agree with getting a corehound or devilsaur out and saying it was "A wolf in disguise." If they were stupid enough to believe that a Northrend wolf is "stronger" than an old world model, I am sure they would have taken that for truth.

It really depends on your gear. If I am doing 2,500 in all T-9 and equivelant, then I am seriously doing something wrong on ANY of my DPS. As BM I pull between 4,500 and 5,500 DPS depending on the group and buffs, though with another high end DPSer my damage drops to about 4,000. MM is usually a couple hundred above the rough. Everyone else ranges between the 4 and 6 thousand mark in the same level of gear.

But anyway, yes, I am, as BM, fairly consistently top DPS in random heroics, it takes some one in ICC level gear to really shut me down.

I have a gs of 5005 and as BM I average 3.3k dps in heroics. In raids it tops 4.5k. In a ToC10 raid yesterday I was #3 on dps. The 2 higher then me was a MM hunter with a GS of 5.7k and a rogue with a GS of 5.4k. Spec and gear does play an important part, but IMO skill>gear/spec. After all I've seen subt rogues out dps fire mages. Sad I know, but true.

Yeah, I'm in mostly ICC gear but the same situation--4-5k dps in heroics, 6k+ in helpfully-composed heroics & all raids, 7-8k+ in ICC with the buff. Heck, I got 8.2k on Loken today, had BL for the duration so the epeen meter looked great  I've gotten to the point where I no longer feel the need to use the 'best' pet in heroics either; I'll bring out the spirit beast, wolf, devilsaur, bird, even chimaera now & then, and am generally top.

I went along to a 25-man with a guild run, one of the better PvE guilds Horde-side on my realm. They had 3 other hunters in group, one pugged and 2 guild. The guild ones were complaining on their voice server, apparently, that I was BM--they didn't want to boost me.

I wound up topping their damage on most fights, or smack between them on others, and they well outgeared me...

So yeah, I'm not tooting my own horn, just agreeing and adding my own experience that yes--skill > all. Granted one spec may be another with the player, latency & gear being equal, but generally, all things aren't equal :P And hey, BM pet dps on movement fights is great!

I'm there too. I'm in a hodge podge of 200-232 gear, 2t9, and I definitely perform well in heroics - like Palla said, around 4.5-5k but lower with another high dps. That's as BM with my spirit beasts. I definitely don't feel I have to apologise for running the spec I enjoy or am in the mood for.

I'm still only doing 2.5-3K in heroics, as I said earlier. But then again, Sil's gear still has a loooooong way to go, too, as she has only 3 tier 9 pieces and an epic staff worth mentioning. Her luck with heroic drops is terrible. Most of her stuff is still blue, and her trinkets are still green. Gaaah, her trinkets! As soon as I get enough badges for my gloves, the trinkets are the FIRST things I'm updating. @_@

Then you're doing well. :) I'm a bit lower than that on my shammy in enhance, with questing greens and blues and a few epics nobody needed when I was healing. It's a long way to gear up but it gets more and more fun as you realise you can take on group quests and elites solo.

No. ... why would that be bad? I think it's bad of people to make you think you have to.
My point (and the others', I'd wager) was simply that BM can compete with the other dps classes out there.

Spamming volley with a 5% buff and ICC 25 gear is hard.

>_>

I've run parts of ICC 25 as BM without comment, since it doesn't even matter anymore, unless we're doing heroic modes. (I was toon-hopping and couldn't be bothered respeccing the few times I was actually on Kalli for the run.) I fully enjoy topping meters in vault as BM, however, beating out some marks hunters. ;)

Err...

I digress.

I hate when people are THAT ignorant, although it does bring up an interesting question: Would this guy have been okay with a BM hunter with Skoll? xD

Clearly. He's a LIGHTNING NORTHREND WORG, so he's got so much power it's visible all around him in an aura of awesome.

I can get close to 6k dps sometimes in BM on heroics.

Technically that's not what she asked... ;P It really depends on many factors though. Gear/gems/enchants, being used to group combat instead of solo combat, spec/glyph/pet spec tweaks, and I just recently discovered that the speed at which you take your fingers OFF the button when clicking a hot key makes a difference...

Personally I know I run with sub-optimal latency, but most of the combat I do is in groups with a tank and healer (yeah, I'm spoiled ˆ-ˆ). I also have relatively good gear and an OCD need to know as much as possible about the details about class mechanics and changes. These circumstances help me perform in a way that I'm happy with - but since I know everyone plays under different circumstances, I don't particularly put a lot of weight on how others perform. *shrug* It's a game, and while all our decisions impact our output, that output is less and less important as Blizz balances the game towards more inclusive gameplay for casual players. If things get dead, I'm happy.
