Pet Names
Am I the only one that gives pet names to obscure references?
Example: I have the Orange Grand Tiger and called him SunJian (from the Dynasty Warriors / Romance of the Three Kingdoms games.)
I'd love to see what y'all came up with. =)
(If this is in the wrong section, I apologize.)

Re: Pet Names
I have a few. Not sure if they count as Obscure References though...
Red Direhorn named Chernabog, which is the name of the demon at the end of Disney's Fantasia movie, based off a deity.
White Draenor Bat named Tepes, which is Vlad the Impaler's actual last name.
Oil Stained Wolf named Hyndla, a figure from Norse mythology.
Magria named Stahli, named from the music artist Blue Stahli, since Magria is blue.
Chromagus named Argos, after Odysseus' dog.
Gondria named Blair, after Blair from the anime Soul Eater, who is a shapeshifting purple cat/neko.
I also have many others with more recognizable references, haha.
Xanbu's entire stable is comprised of Troll Loa themed/named pets. I ran out of Troll Loa after a point and started having to make up my own trollish names for them. My two main stables are linked in my sig if you'd like to poke around my armory!

Re: Pet Names
I mostly go for cool-sounding words (Death, Dusk, Anchor, Kettle), but also have some puns and references like Kryptonite my green Shale Spider and Artichoke my Green Riverbeast (named it based on a photoshop I saw here during WoD beta) Also my "main pet" is Tranquills, the green spirit porcupine.
I thought I was being original naming my Chimaeron "ThreeStooges". Some weeks and many trios of heads later I realized how unoriginal I was.

Re: Pet Names
All my pets on my main hunter are named after Creatures or characters from the Playstation one game, Final Fantasy 7. With my main partner being Nanaki (Red XIII's true name) the red Hyena.

Re: Pet Names
Hmm, I'm not sure if they're very obscure, but I have a bunch of pets that are named in reference of something (sorry for length):
Aleister - named for the infamous occultist Aleister Crowley since the purple crocolisk has a rather sinister look to it, especially with those red eyes
Baphomet - similarly named after the goat-headed pagan god. I used to have this name on an actual goat but the stag just has a better aura to it
Belmont - from the Castlevania series of course, hopefully needs no introduction
Hegg - slightly more obscure perhaps, named after the singer Johan Hegg from the band Amon Amarth, they have a lot of Norse inspired songs that remind me of Northrend
Kevin - named after the bird from the movie Up
Rancid - mostly named after the punk band, since he has a mohawk
Reznor - named for the Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, also because it's just an awesome sounding name
Ripley - sort of a nod to Ripley's Believe It Or Not, being a strange two-headed creature
Turisas - named after the band, they paint themselves in red and black warpaint
Burton - named for Tim Burton since the black and white stripes were reminiscent of his style
Frankenswine - just because it's an awesome pun
Gomorah - from the Sodom & Gomorrah biblical tale, since basilisks turn their prey to stone and people turned to salt by looking back, etc, etc (I couldn't use the actual name so I had to take out an R, but it still works)
Rlyeh - named after R'lyeh, the lost city from Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu
Robert - honestly I never use this pet but I just wanted him so I could name him after Robert Plant, the lead singer of Led Zeppelin and his golden mane of hair~
Vorpal - from the sword in Lewis Carroll's poem Jabberwocky, mostly because it's a cool sounding word and seemed to suit the nether ray

Re: Pet Names
They don't seem obscure to me, but they may be to others -
Pubert: the Addams Family.
Sweetums: the Muppet Show.
Pyewacket: A familiar spirit detected by the "witchfinder general" Matthew Hopkins in the 1644 witch trials
Isengrim: the wolf character in Reynard the Fox
Harryhausen: named after a pioneer in stop-motion model animation
Artax: the Neverending Story (he fights the sadness!)
Slugworth: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Sharptooth: Land Before Time

Re: Pet Names
Also Guilty of this...While many of my pet's names are based from mythology, science, romanji. They are also a pun on the pet's looks or some are just naturally homestuck references. ^^;
Also a warning, I tend to abuse accent marks with my pet names...>_>
Mønønøke - Princess Mononoke Studio Ghibli animation and the word's meaning just fits her as a name in my eyes.

Glbgolyb - Homestuck, Feferi's Lusus or "Parental Guardian". He's one my favorite pets as it has a habit of standing over my toon in a protective umbrella stance. n_n

Zeiram - Iria : Zeiram the Animation. The black carapace and glowing red eyes just were a perfect match.
ðiablø From that other blizzard game, with a big red looking lizard guy.

Vertigø After the lovely Primal Rage character. I somehow had the toy of her in this black and green color.

Abräxás from the Dictionnaire Infernal

Pyralspite Homestuck, another "parental guardian".

Ánøxia - A sciencey, old greek term for "Low Oxygen"

Cåutìøn - A pun on her appearance. x)

Zagara - From that other other Blizzard game..with space and bugs.

LittleFoot - The Land before Time. <3

Marquise - Homestuck reference to Vriska's ancestor. The dark blue and black plumage fits her look.

and that's only a chunk from my stables.. ;;;;)

Re: Pet Names
All of my pets once had names that were mixes of mythology and etymology. Then, I got lazy trying to find names that sounded good, so I just name them the same as their wild counterparts (or as closely as possible, since we're not allowed spaces or apostrophes for stupid reasons).

Re: Pet Names
Lets see.....I had a Transformers theme once, but then I changed it to Red VS Blue. XD
Re: Pet Names
I'm LOVING these. Please keep them coming. If you want to show off your name, and it's not an obscure reference, feel free. I know we're all proud of our pets.
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/jormung ... white.html - MuaDib from the Dune Series.
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/triceratopsred.html - Was GOING to name him Dodongo, but apparently "Dong" is considered an adult word. /shrug. So I went with Tundro from Herculoids.
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/woolyrhino_slate.html - Rambi from Donkey Kong
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/wolfdraenorfrost.html - Belgarath from David Eddings Belgariad and Malorean series. Probably, to date, my favorite fantasy series to read. I'm 36 years old and I still enjoy reading the whole thing through.
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/direwol ... brown.html - Belgarion, also from the David Eddings series
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/worgwhite_ghost.html - Poledra, from David Eddings Series
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/owlspirit.html - Polgara, from the David Eddings series
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/stormcrow.html - Beldin, from David Eddings series.
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/worgblack_ghost.html Rahzar from TMNT
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/minespi ... steel.html Natasha (the name of the Black Widow character from Avengers. I usually get a lot of "Clever" /tells about her.)
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/boarski ... mored.html Kjata from Final Fantasy series
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look/seaturtleskingrey.html Moira from Never Ending Story
I have others, but they're not references. They're either nicknames of my family members, a pun on the name itself, or characters that I've written about. (I write about my D&D characters.)
