Did the food requirement for pets change?

With the new expac, less healing and all, I've been trying to feed my croc on some of the meat that's been dropping for me. I have tried lean shanks, big gamy ribs and a couple of other things. I get the error "your pet doesn't like the food". The only thing that seems to work is something I've cooked and I don't want to use my buff foods on my pet. Has there been a change in how 'feed pet' works in Legion? Or has it always been that pets needed 'cooked' food. It's been so long since I had to use the spell, I don't remember.

No, I noticed this too and I'm pretty sure it's new. Pets used to be willing to eat raw fish, meat, etc. It's one of the main reasons I took up fishing way back when, so I could feed Tetsusaiga fish that I caught. I'm not sure why they made this change. Perhaps it was unintentional? I'm with you though, I don't want to use stat food on my pets. You could maybe check out some vendors though to see if you can find some basic cooked but non-stat food? I just haven't gotten around to doing it myself.

Our pets just figure now that we're all big shot commanders with our own artifacts, the least we can do is give them a gourmet meal once in a while.

Mine eat vendor food with no problem. I haven't tried feeding them raw food in a while since I carry food around for them. The only thing is finding mushrooms, since no vendor ever has mushroom based food!

Raw meat is worth more than vendor meat anyway. Raw meat can be cooked to be stat food and sold on the AH for way more than you'd spend at a vendor

Noticed this yesterday. Cooked meals are now only acceptable "fodder" by my pets it would seems. Spoiled brats.

I know right? It's getting to be just like real life, where my pets eat better than I do.

Is feeding pets even still a thing? Is there even still a benefit to it anymore? I haven't done since happiness went away...

For me, sadly yes it is. Heal pet does not seem to be enough anymore so I feed them.

Edit: Or I cast exhilaration if not on cool down

I never stopped feeding them, purely for silly reasons like giving them a treat. (yes, i know they aren't real) But I also find I need to now, for healing them up.

I suspect the issue is that your pets need a specific ilevel of food to have any effect.

Raw foods simply have too low a level to be able to feed your pet in most cases.

Imagine my shock when my stag happily ate Spiced Rib Roast the other day. Something tells me pet diets are a little wonky
