An Ill Wind Blows (Side Pinkerlocke) - COMPLETE
It is the day after Ilmatar fled. During the commotion of working to keep their sky-home aloft a few inhabitants of the Mistral Zenith have noticed a particular absence. News has spread fast across the floating city until finally reaching the ears of the clan leader, and Ilmatar's father, Leesil. Distraught at his progressively noticeable ill health and fading plumage he begs for those who first noticed his daughter had gone missing to please find and bring her back. Should he pass there would be no one left to lead the Cloudweavers. And so an odd bunch of dragons of mixed element, who each had joined the Cloudweavers to lend a claw in its upkeep, set out in search of the brightly coloured runaway.
NUZLOCKE RULES
If a dragon faints in the Coliseum, it is dead and must be exalted (Also see Personal Rules).
You can buy any dragon from the AH after you've levelled three dragons to level 25.
You can't give a dragon a primary gene until level 10, can't give them a secondary gene until level 15, and can't give them a tertiary gene until level 20.
For every egg you find, whether in the coliseum or by scavenging, you may purchase one breed change for any dragon.
PERSONAL RULES
Readers can vote to give a favourite dragon the "Beloved" status, preventing the dragon from dying. Every fifth dragon owned allows another dragon to be Beloved. Readers can vote to have the status removed if the time is right for the dragon to move on or if they fall out of love with them.
The first time a dragon is KO'd they are considered Badly Wounded for a week (Optionally: dress in bandage apparel to show this). If they are KO'd a second time during this week they die. If a Beloved dragon is KO'd a second time they cannot participate in any Pinkerlocke activity for a week.
Dead dragons are not exalted until pronounced dead in the story and can be "rescued" by readers. Otherwise they will be sent to the Hibernal Den in lieu of a graveyard.
Roll 1d4 (or RNG 1-4) for every familiar drop (loot or Pinkerton). If 4 the familiar is kept and joins the story.
If a dragon has a familiar and is killed in the coliseum, roll 2d4 (or RNG 1-4 twice).
-- If total is 8: both the dragon and familiar survives.
-- If total is over 4: the dragon is saved, but the familiar dies.
-- If total is less than 4: the dragon is Badly Wounded or dies, but the familiar survives. If the dragon dies, equip the familiar to a new dragon. If no dragon can equip the familiar, save the familiar to replace any that die later.
PINKERLOCKE RULES
All Nuzlocke activity corresponds with the loot you obtain daily from Pinkerton's plundered pile.
Food
Coliseum time!
Plants: 10-20 matches
Insects: 20-30 matches
Seafood: 30-40 matches
Meat: 40-50 matches
Mixed-Medium Mode: You must use a random number generator to pick your coliseum fighters but you are free to pick which venue they fight in. If a low level dragon is rolled, group them with dragons of similar level. Dragons level 5 and below cannot die - this is to prevent new dragons from being squashed on their first romp through the coliseum because they had to tag along with higher levels.
Get Creative!
Materials
Do some writing for your Nuzlocke. How does your new Nuzlocke clan change and develop? What are your dragons like personality-wise? How do they get along? How do they die? Is there an antagonist in this Nuzlocke, or are they merely struggling against the forces of nature? Write dragon bios! Write short stories or paragraphs, or add to one big one adventure!
Reader Event
Write something for your favourite character(s)! Write a short story. Write them a bio. Make it funny. Make it sad. Have your dragons meet mine for a spell. The choice is up to you! As long as no one dies it's all good. Alternatively, send a gift! Food, battle items, eggs, dragons... whatever you feel like! (Note: gifted dragons must be lv1 to avoid cheating.)
Trinkets
Do some art for your Nuzlocke! Digital or traditional, use whatever medium feels best for you. Draw deaths. Draw dragons. Draw humanised versions of your dragons (if that's your sort of thing). Draw familiars and dragons together. It doesn't have to be that good or elaborate.
Reader Event
Do some art of your favourite character(s)! A portrait, a comic, gijinka art... the choice is completely in your hands!
Familiars
Expand the clan!
Buy the cheapest basic dragon in the auction house of a specific breed. Use a random number generator (between 1-15) to determine which breed you will get!
1. Fae
2. Guardian
3. Mirror
4. Tundra
5. Pearlcatcher
6. Ridgeback
7. Snapper
8. Spiral
9. Imperial
10. Wildclaw
11. Skydancer
12. Coatl
13. Nocturne
14. Bogsneak
15. Flip a coin: If Tails roll for a different breed. If Heads a Gaoler is stalking your party - buy a Gaoler
Apparel
Special stuff!
Breed two of your dragons, buy the cheapest G1 or scatterscroll any dragon.
Breeding can only occur if the dragons are compatible in the story. No random breeding if it doesn't make sense.
Flip a coin for each hatchling. If Tails the hatchling is dead and must be exalted.
Hatchlings from found and gifted eggs are exempt from the coin flip and are allowed one breed change that must be applied by the next story entry.
Hatchlings with special eyes are exempt from the coin flip regardless of origin. (Optionally: substitute a sibling if available.)
Reader Event
Breed one of your dragons with one of mine! Your dragon will temporarily join my lair to breed but will be returned after the eggs hatch. Breeding reader dragons do not contribute towards other Pinkerlocke activities aside from the story for the duration of the nesting period. Hatchling splitting can be decided with the partner at the time. Hatchlings kept in the Pinkerlocke lair must still survive the coin flip.
Battle Items
Uh oh!
Flip a coin.
Heads = DEATH STREAK
Tails = Nothing happens
DEATH STREAK rules: Randomly select three dragons using a random number generator.
Fight in the coliseum using the "food" rules 10 rounds consecutively (ie. you cannot leave that arena), quitting midway if a dragon dies.
If you are using the easy mode rules, switch to the hard mode rules for battle stones.
Losing
If your dragon count falls to zero you have a few options.
1. Declare the challenge a "loss" and give up
2. Wait for Pinkerton to drop a familiar
3. Just say "welp" and buy another dragon from the AH without waiting for Pinkerton because you lack patience.
Remember!
This is taking place in my alternate lair, UmbralHart!

Re: An Ill Wind Blows (Side Pinkerlocke)
Starting out with 30-40 rounds in the coli. Fun!
And actually, we went further than that. I wanted to try out a build that included some points in agility, defence and mind while still semi-adhering to Culex's guide. To do this I needed them at level 5 to see how the points can be distributed at that point. As such I went over 40 battles, possibly over 50 at that, to achieve this. They all have 10 each in agi, vit, def and mnd along with 15 qck and 24 str or int. The next coli prompt will tell how well this works out.

Am I trying too hard to entertain you? To get people involved? I see so many of you looking at my threads and yet so few people say anything with fewer still wanting to join in. Don't get me wrong, I truly am grateful that anyone reads these at all and respect that not everyone wants to join in or say anything. I just would like some feedback. Criticisms. Anything to know you guys are happy.

---
Day 2
A new dragon joins us!
Tar- I mean Mirya (that's gonna take a bit to get used to) gifted me a mirror girl a little while ago so I thought it best to add her in. Since I seem to have a flower theme going this time, meet Iris.
I've been able to get a small sense of these characters from the start for those of you who like to check the cast list from time to time (I'll mess with bios at some point, too). Iris is a young, terrified yet highly defensive mirror cast out from her old pack after sustaining an injury that rendered her paralysed from the waist down.

Re: An Ill Wind Blows (Side Pinkerlocke)
More coliseum. The story for this one will start soon, I promise!
Iris got rolled alongside Hyacinth and Zinnia. I took them to start safely in the Training Fields first so I could give Iris some survivability for a few rounds in the Woodland Path. They all did great, if struggled with dishing out damage in the woods, and Iris is now level 4. However, the enemies did seem to be dodging even more than usual today...

Re: An Ill Wind Blows (Side Pinkerlocke)
Day 4 (Yesterday)
Chapter 0/Prelude
Tethers whipped dangerously. Sails drooped pathetically. Voices cursed angrily, others fearfully. All claws were active, filled with some part of the capsizing sky-town that was the Mistral Zenith. Screaming and shouting, ordering and consoling, encouragements, expletives. Every voice filled the empty air where wind once blew. Somehow, some way the Cloudweaver clan and its guests managed to pull everything together. Hours of scampering, pulling, tying things together passed until finally the great sky-bound community was stable.
Stable, but lifeless.
For as long as anyone could remember dragons of the Windswept Plateau had constructed and lived in these immense floating settlements. Why live in caves in the ground when you could sleep in the sky? Mistral Zenith was one such construction; many platforms and balconies and kites all joined together and held aloft by balloons and air bladders and wind-powered propellers. At first it was a small accomplishment designed to accommodate a sizeable family. As they family grew so did the lair. Even after the inhabitants moved out, following the breeze to find new adventure it continued to grow, built upon by those who remained. Those who chose not to, or could not, see the world expanding their home as travellers stopped by to marvel at their work.
Now it almost appeared as a miniature Cloudsong, sprawling throughout the sky like a serpent. While yet a home to its founders the Zenith had become a home for all. Whether to stay or to see, all were welcome here.
Until now, that is.
The unthinkable had happened. With no warning the beating heart of the Wind domain, the Twisting Crescendo, the eternal storm, had ceased to be. Without it there was no breeze, no playful gusts, no powerful gales to keep these platforms afloat. Under its own weight the sky-bound citadel had begun to fall, tearing itself apart.
Most of the visitors had been shepherded safely to the ground while others lent wing, claw and maw to the salvage of this accomplishment of dragonkind. With it no longer falling all the residents could do was stare in sheer horror at the aftermath. Not only at the sorry state their home was in but at the skies once swept clear of clouds by the gusts of cool air. Dark bands of smoke rose from the Ashfall Waste to the south, while to the north noxious fumes and pestilence swirled over the Scarred Wasteland.
All life had ground to a halt as every creature bore witness to this turmoil.
For an indeterminate amount of time a stunned silence gripped the world. Someone sniffled. A figure turned to embrace the dragon next to them as they stifled a sob. Gradually a ripple of subdued questions and exclamations made its way through the crowd only to fade away into terrified uncertainty.
Someone screamed suddenly, turning heads. A wild-eyed Mirror began scrabbling desperately against the planks in a bid to get away from the edge until they were escorted to their den. Another wave of voices, murmuring, washed over the dragons of the Zenith as they found themselves backing away from the railings. Another scream, a child this time. Someone was openly crying. Guiding talons gently grasped arms as they helped each other to safety.
The wind hadn't just died. The Wind had died.
“Magnolia, would you please stop pacing. You're rocking the platform.”
Indeed, the movement of the large white Ridgeback had started to make the floor beneath them tilt just enough for scrolls to topple from their previously neat stacks. She came to a stop as ordered only to let out a frustrated sigh. “You noticed too though, right?” she half-demanded, half-asked the Skydancer who had chastised her and whose nose was, as usual, deep in the pages of a thick tome. “The leader's daughter is missing. You know how much she means to the clan, to Leesil!”
“Yes I do, however-”
“What if she fell off and no one noticed? What if she's down on the ground somewhere. Wind dragons don't like being grounded, Cin!”
The bespectacled Hyacinth huffed in barely contained frustration. “If you're so concerned why don't you go ask the guards if someone's seen her?” He flicked the parchment leaf over with a thin, practised finger. “It would give me a chance to think...” he added under his breath, only to glare at the wall ahead of him as once again the room began to sway.
“You know what? Fine! I'll go ask some people and prove that she is missing!” A hollow thudding resounded off the bamboo-lined walls as Magnolia stomped towards the archway, pushing back the cloth curtain that served as the door and slipping out into the stagnant air.
With a sigh both of irritation and relief at the same time the grey-furred Skydancer returned to his studies. “I thought she'd never leave.” A low voice hissed from the room next door, a dark-scaled head lined with green frills snaking around the dividing wall.
“She means well,” Hyacinth admitted without looking up, “but Gods she keeps going on. I've never met an Ice dragon so chatty.”
“Neither have I.” the Bogsneak replied as she waddled out to better regard her current housemate. “I make enough of a mess without her knocking everything over simply by walking.”
Pushing back from the desk Hyacinth retrieved his specs from his snout to clean them using a cloth he pulled from a pouch at his hip. “How many times do I need to tell you,” he began, flicking his golden gaze at his companion with a playful smirk, “that nothing you make is a mess. It's ingenious.”
“An ingenious mess.” she replied flatly, though managed her own smirk in response.
Rolling his eyes and replacing his specs the Skydancer turned around fully towards the squat dragon who was flicking her tail at him. “I mean it Zinnia. Your potions are a work of art. Not to mention all the alchemical recipes you found on your own. You should be proud of your accomplishments.”
It was Zinnia's turn to roll her electric-blue eyes, though the gesture lacked the playfulness of her friend's. “Accomplishments. Right. I'll try to remember that.” Then she tilted her head a little as she added, “Are you finished studying my 'accomplishments' by the way? I need it back to work on a new project.”
With a knowing grin the birdlike dragon opened a draw in his desk with a rattle as something inside rolled with the momentum, reached in and handed Zinnia a vial of red liquid. “Here's your mess.”
Zinnia clicked her tongue in annoyance, fixing Hyacinth with a displeased stare. “Every alchemist figures out a basic healing potion easily. It's one of the first things we're taught for Stormcatcher's sake.” She grasped it, turning to slip back into her temporary den. “It's not special.”
“No, but it will be.” Hyacinth spoke with a smile. If the Bogsneak had heard the remark she chose to ignore it. Shaking his slender head the Skydancer settled back into his chair, preparing to continue his work.
No sooner had he scanned the first line did the entire platform begin to bob up and down in an unsettling way. Groaning in exasperation Hyacinth slammed the tome shut, getting to his feet and glowering at the large white Ridgeback that had all but flung herself back through the curtain. “Must you-”
“She really is gone!” Magnolia blurted, chest heaving from the run. “I asked a guard and he didn't know, so he asked another guard and she didn't know, so they went and asked-”
“Magnolia!” Hyacinth snapped, stamping a foot to interrupt her. “I really don't need this right now. Zin doesn't need this. So please-”
But the larger dragon kept babbling anyway, documenting each and every guard and towns-person still willing to walk the platforms in this forsaken weather. “...and they didn't know either so we asked Leesil and he freaked out/ Seriously, everyone's looking around and Ilmatar is not here!” Her pale blue eyes watched the stunned scholar expectantly.
“Okay, and?” he finally asked after carefully considering the consequences of encouraging the hyper dragon staring at him. “She's probably just hiding inside like everyone else. Like you should be.” He made a show of returning to his desk, where he slammed a hand on the large, leather-bound book. “Now if you'd be so kind-”
“That's the point!” Magnolia practically yelled, slapping a hand over her maw when she realised before continuing with a pleadingly sheepish look, “That's the point. She isn't. She isn't anywhere on Mistral Zenith. Everyone's looking for her. It's like she vanished when the cyclone did.”
A clatter sounded from the next room over, followed by a curse, followed by the melody of shattering glass, followed by a long string of curses that made the pair swing their heads around to the archway. “Zin? Are you okay?” Cin called out, slipping back out of his chair to investigate.
The Bogsneak beat him to it, frills flat against her skull and glowering so hard it was difficult to see her eyes beneath their ridges. “No.” she replied sharply. “I only went and knocked over the project potion when I heard Maggie talking. Spilled everywhere. So I smashed the vial.” She sucked in a long breath between her teeth as she pinched the bridge of her nose. “It wasn't working out anyway.”
“It was fine-”
Zinnia ignored the Skydancer's attempt to placate her, instead focusing a scrutinising glare on the Ridgeback. “So you're telling us that, in this short amount of time, you managed to speak to every guard on duty and the clan leader? And from that determined a single Coatl is most definitely missing?”
A pause delayed Magnolia's response. “...yes?” Zinnia's glower deepened, if that were possible at this point. “No really!” The Ice dragon exclaimed, rocking back on her haunches and throwing her arms in the air, almost brushing her long claws against the ceiling. “I asked a guard, he hadn't seen her so we asked-”
“MAGGIE!”
“So we asked her to look around for us,” Maggie continued, now getting annoyed herself at being interrupted, “while we went to the clan leader's den. Asked a few dragons in and around there, Leesil himself came out, we all chatted to find out what we knew and yes Ilmatar has not been scene since before the cyclone petered out.” Her arms came down and were crossed in front of her chest as she turned away, pouting. “Oh, and we're going on a search party for her.”
Silence hovered between the trio as the last line slowly sank in.
“We're WHAT?!”
