Hopefully in 9.1 another taming pass can be done and make it so that the Matriarchs can be tamed :)
Hopefully! I do find it interesting how this stuff happens, it makes you wonder how exactly in the coding that sometimes these things get flagged for taming. We've had many instances over the years where NPCs weren't supposed to be tamable, but ended up that way by some mistake. It's something I've thought about a lot over the years, and always has left me scratching my head.

I’m not sure. Might sometimes be for accident or them possibly recycling an old mob :)

I think a tamable npc that's not actually available happens because of a twirly mustached ne'er-do-well plotting evil things behind a computer screen. "Nyeh heh heh heh, those blasted hunters will feel the pain once dataminers find THIS in the database!"

I hope in 9.1 the warp stalker family can be revamped to add in soul eaters, hopefully, Blizz will add more npc versions with wings or change some of them, especially the named ones to have wings, this would bring more people into taming warp stalkers, getting 1 more warp stalker in BFA didn’t do much, I still hope we can tame those matriarchs, they do look like a good candidate of a tame, we can tame mammoths and even bony creatures and not matriarchs, hopefully patches will have a small taming pass, because the taming pass now is big compared to what BFA was during release, so Blizz did follow up their mistake, I cannot forget wicker beasts, they should add a tome that drops from some sort of rare in ardenweald, I need my wicker bear and saber

Bloodbeak seems to no longer be tameable.

I started messing around on the beta, and a few of the things I noticed have already been mentioned (the head-turning... it's very hard to miss and irritating). but also apparently if a pet retains its name when you tame it, you don't get your first rename for free. Also kind of annoying, I don't really tame pets for their names, it feels like there's an extra step being added in.
But there's a couple of things I don't think are mentioned (I'm positive I haven't read all 80 pages, but I did searches):
1. Mammoths have the same substandard snare that crabs have. First, it's channeled, so they're only doing auto-attacks and basic attacks 40% of the time. The bonus damage/cost when above 50 focus doesn't make up the whole difference. At least not against a training dummy. When the channel on auto-cast, a crab did about 30% less damage. When I use a blood-beast (also tenacity) with auto-cast snare, the damage was pretty much the same. Second, when the crab decided to use the snare is different than when the blood-beast (or a hound) did. The crab always used it on CD, the hound and blood-beast didn't use (even with auto-cast on) against a wizard looking training dummy, but did auto-cast against the dungeon boss training dummy.
2. When pets change direction, they're snapping to their new orientation. In live, they rotate over a few frames. It feels less immersive, visually. Like when you strafe on a pterrodax mount. Except it happens so much more often. I'm not sure how that graphic change would get introduced, but it has.

The free name change not being there makes sense, honestly. You're taming an already named individual, so there's no need to rename it. This simply makes unique pets more unique.

Disagree, tbh. It's nice that some pets retain their names after taming, but the basis of taming a pet is still generally that you get one rename for free.

I recall not being able to rename pets in beta but I assumed it was a bug and not intended, hmm. I did report it but I wonder why they'd suddenly change that behaviour when you can rename a pet in live that keeps its name.

We’ve got the old hati procedure, Blizz first planned not to let hati be renamed, but they ended up letting people rename hati, just like the named beasts

And btw, has anyone noticed that animal companion got patched/fixed, since winged or flying pets don’t fly anymore when they’re on the slot during SL, I think it’s sad that many people’s AC pets can’t fly anymore, what’s worse is I tamed a Icewing Rylak which is only tamed white rylak that can fly when commanded to attack flying npcs, doesn’t fly anymore, same with irewing, I only tamed that rylak because it was able to fly, I could of done a few EOTB tricks if it was able to fly, but not anymore, looks like that rylak of mine is not special, because of the fix, this rylak is getting replaced by a death chimaera, and irewing, I don’t mind too much because irewing has a special red and black skin, and I cannot forget to mentioned that twinbreath skystalkers, the red rylaks that were able to fly, also don’t fly anymore, what a bummer

I really wish Blizzard would find some kind of way to let pets with flying animations switch between flying and standing on demand. WoD ravagers, kunchong, rylaks, dread ravens, etc.

Yeah, they should add the old rylak procedure, let the pet with wings and AC walk with regular walking animation, if I would command them to attack an NPC, then they both would fly, for example, a kunchong and a wod ravager would walk normally, but then fly when they attack a bird or a gryphon rider for instance, i really hope they add that, wasn’t a big fan of flying idles and walking, I hope muffinus will read this

Flying blood beasts are begging to have a flight/ground toggle. And my raven is so tired after flapping for years, I wish I could give it a sit command too (even though it doesn't have grounded combat animations). Even during eyes of the beast, I can't /sit /lay /dance

Lol I wish eyes of the beast can do emotes, but it can’t since it’s a channeled spell and not a permanent transformation, it’s fun cuz I can gank players without getting attacked by guards in the end, and I can run outside the invisible boundaries in the culling of stratholme with move pet and EOTB, It would of been cool if EOTB pets can fly if they have wings, just like eye of kilrogg in warlocks, but the difference is eye of kilrogg cannot attack mobs, or what if warlocks had a EOTB related ability to replace eye of kilrogg with some sort of glyph or talent that allows to control our demons, why Blizz, can’t we have fun with our pets and minions

Dear diary; Nighthold scorpids, Emerald Nightmare spiders, and other bugged dungeon/raid tames are still untameable on PTR. Daily bug reports have yielded no reesults, sadly. Also, they still haven't fixed Exotic Beasts being at an unreasonable level 39 rather than the correct level it was before, so taming Guardian of the Elders is going to continue being an extremely awful grind.

I still hope they lower the exotic requirement levels, fix the tameability of bosses/dungeon mobs, and I hope the first guardian of kalliope is not covenant locked, that phalynx is the reason I’m going full gold with bastion beasts, except for the vulpin which will be black, I feel like locking things in covenants would be a time waster for hunters just to get a cool modeled pet

The First Guardian of Kalliope isn’t covenant locked. It is in Bastion, but anyone can do the quests to get it.

Does First Guardian keep its name when tamed? Cause that's a pretty cool name.
