Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Bruffalon horn variations. In the herd I was taming, the bulls exclusively had antlers, the cows had two horns (like a rhino) and the calves have just one little horn.
In the model viewer I also saw some appearances with no horns, but I'm unsure if that's going to be used, or even intended. Maybe?

Bruffalons also have tail variations, which is a nice extra detail.
(In this herd, at least) the bulls have long, fleshy tails, the cows have small tufted tails, and the calves... currently have a hole where their tail should be! The tufted tail also needs a bit of work as there are gaps around the connection with the body.

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Sorry for being quiet. While I pop in to the Alpha to check things out and tweet a few things, I've been pretty quiet these past few days, as the model / image side of things has been painstaking work.
I've had to name all the files for the unnamed models and colours (since Blizzard now hide their official file names), and that took all weekend. Now I'm working on model shots, but capturing all the variations can take quite a bit of time.
One saving grace: there don't seem to be nearly as many special and glowy model effects as in Zereth Mortis, so I haven't had to spend as much time making background shadows etc. (which can take up hours!).
It'll still be a few days before I get it all done and can get up a 10.0 preview page, but I'm working on it

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Take your time, Wain. We have plenty of time before the release of Dragonflight (not much in the grand scheme, but plenty regardless), so you don't need to rush it out like Wowhead pushes a million articles a day. Good results take time, so take breaks and don't push yourself.
My personal take on those Bruffalon; I feel like they should all have the same tail. It feels odd that they'd have different types of tails. as the design of the bull's tail is very similar to a hippo's. Such a tail is obviously used to wipe their rear in the funniest way, but then you see how the cow and calf have a totally different tail. Biologically speaking, that would put them at a disadvantage for their own health. The cow can't wipe her rear, which would imply that cows have bad hygiene and would die off quicker as a result. The calves, unless they just don't poop until they mature, have gaping rectums that raise all sorts of health-related red flags and hilarious Southern American stereotype jokes. Obviously, the calf and cow are both unfinished, but still. They should all have the same tail as the bull, purely on the basis that it makes more sense that way. Also hot take; I like the cow's horns most because the bull's antlers are small and the calf is just a fat unicorn.

I dislike the short tail, it looks more like a rabbit’s than a deer or a cow, I can call it a Rhinobullrabbit

It looks like Ducks will be joining the Crane family. The Crane family has had their name changed to Waterfowl.

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Waterfowl, huh. That encompasses ducks, geese, and related birds similar to those two, but that's not what a crane is. They're not even close to related.

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
I kept checking the beta database for the plant hydras since the alpha dropped, but today, it seems that they're no longer listed as hydras. I don't know if that was Wowhead's own slip up for so long or if Blizzard really did list them as hydras but had them as elementals, but the beta database now shows that they are not hydras anymore. Feels bad.

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
So, the Dracthyr starting zone is up. We can't access it as Hunters, but they have said we'll be able to go there at Max Level. So including the beasts I spot as I level - not going to go out of my way to search this time most likely, as transportation is limited right now. Here's the first I spotted - any more I'll edit.
The Thunder Lizard does have a Lightning Effect on its horn - but not as pronounced as this - this is it casting Chain Lightning at me. lol.
Still labeled Dragonkin, but a new color than the ones we saw.
EDIT: That is all I saw on the starting zone that are new.
In the Neltharus Dungeon, there's a new phoenix model, and one of the bosses is a Lava Elekk: I was unable to get an alive picture of the Phoenix, as they're non-elite trash.

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
I wish those beetles had more beetle-like colors..
Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
I've seen yellow and I believe green ones too. Just mostly documenting the models, since Wain is working on the page with the colors. xD

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
Do you think this will be the expansion we finally get some Good Dogs™? The models are in the database and of all the exotic beasties we always get, we're still missing some regular ol' man's best friend! Fingers crossed!

Re: Beta 10.0 Beast Thread
We are getting good dogs. The Bakar are basically St. Bernards with the fluff slider at maximum. It's a touch of fantasy on top of a normal domesticated dog breed. I'm sure you mean 1:1 dogs though, which I'll have to say that it'd look jarring with what we have. The domesticated dog models, other than the mastiffs we also already have as tames, are all small and critter-like.

I haven't added them to the database yet, but here are all the colours:
