Yeah, poodles are pretty neat. Is that a standard or a big one in your sig?
She's 60 lbs of standard, and a really good dog. :D

Nice. I have a little dwarf myself. Cute dogs, tough I don't care much for the "stylish" hairdos. :P

I know what you're talking about. I'm looking in terms of sheer functionality. What you're ideally looking for is a ghoul sacrifice sort of effect - which I don't think Blizzard wants us to have. >_>
I have to agree here. It also depends on what kind of dog you're talking about. If it's a more "dumb", bigger dog it would most likely charge to help you, but a "smarter" breed would most likely use some more strategy, such as attacking from behind or calling for help. A good dog is loyal and helpful, but not necessarily dumb enough to get itself killed.

Guess I'll just have to say one thing- you guys must not really read the news for when dogs save people. I've read of 'smaller' and 'smarter' breeds charge snakes to protect their owners, or their owners children. I've just read a story where mutts attacked a suicide bomber in iraq to protect some soldiers that were taking care of them. My mother once told me how a wolfhound attacked a bear, to protect it's owner, tho idk how much of that is true.

When I twisted both my ankles once, and was stuck on the ground for some time, my dogs positively freaked. Heidi tried to sit on me, to protect me. And Adam, when we still had him, thought something was in the yard, and even as blind as he was, he still tried to find it.

I know what you're saying, but I've seen dogs of all breeds. All smart, dumb or dumber than dirt, who would die on the spot for their owners. Not just 'die in a fight'.

But That's as much as I'll go into the subject cause I don't really want to argue.

Well, what I meant was that a smarter dog would get help, rather than simply charge in, like the wolfhound and the bear. If it's something like a snake, where they have a much bigger chance of winning, of course they can be heroes. I made my point pretty badly in the first post, what I meant was that any dog can be a hero, not just the big, strong ones.

Dunno why you keep quoting my posts back, Ryai; I'm not disputing the heroism displayed by real dogs. I'm just looking at a potential family ability from a developer's perspective. ^_^

Hmmm, I don't think I really want dogs (for myself, personally) in the game. I don't like the new Mastiffs, either. If anything, I'd love for Blizzard to spend their developing/designing/artistic hours redesigning some of the way-outdated skins we have now. I'd love to have smoother wolves and tigers and bears and such. Well, and characters for that matter, too. Not to mention as someone said, the wolf family is already one of the more bloated ones out there (next to cats and spiders), I'd rather see more love given to some of the other less-varied families.

@ Saturo and Lazuly,
Yea, that's also called a Sporting clip or a puppy cut. It's what we have both the girls in. While the fancy froofroo cuts do look ridiculous, they DID serve a purpose. The fluffy blobs insulated the dogs joints while still providing a streamlined body for swimming. Poodles were bred as water retrievers, check out the webbed toes!

I've always found it curious how long World of Warcraft took to add proper dogs to the game. Until the Perky Pug, every "dog" was a wolf or hyena (and hyenas aren't even canines). I agree: add a few more dog body types and make them their own pet family. After all, they're extremely common and well-loved in the real world, with hundreds of variations to choose from.

Afaik they were on a hunting trip, on their own. Meaning that if the dog chose the 'smarter' route, the man would have been dead. Besides I've seen Cats attack bears and they're helluva lot smarter than dogs.

You can not call a cat smarter than a dog. The cat is more self-sufficient, yes, but that's because of instincts, and sure, some varieties of cats might be smarter than some dogs, but really, you can't measure an animals intelligence like that. The cat does fine on it's own, but you can't train it. You can train a dog.

And I'm fairly sure you don't bring a poodle or a collie or one of the smarter dogs I'm talking about on a hunting trip.

Wow wow wow hang on now who says just cos you can train something it's smart? I don't think dogs are as smart as some people say they are yeah they might be but there pack animals and most pack animals don't need to be that smart as they rely on the others in the pack. 90% of what people say about dogs being as smart or nearly as smart as us is total bull. Now a raven or something thats a true smart animal but a dog? no not as smart as people say.

Heck you can trian cats thank you very much my bro thougt his to use the loo for christs sake lol.

If you simply refuse to acknowledge that dogs are intelligent, this discussion won't go anywhere. They areSOCIAL pack animals, unlike cats. A cat is controlled almost entirely of instincts. It stays with you because you feed and shelter it, mostly. It wouldn't live with anyone unless.

I'm not saying they are not intelligent but i was only saying they are not as intelligent as people say they are. They too would allso be fine with out people just like cats.

With the difference that they would live in a pack. A lone wolf usually doesn't do as good as a wolf in a pack. In the pack, they use intelligent hunting techniques. A cat hunts differently.

You know really when you think about it compareing cats too dogs is like compareing apples to oranges :S i don't know why people do lol. There nothing like each other and both fit there roles we tamed them perfectly. Dogs for hunting/protection and cats for pest control and sometimes protection form other animals. Heck i have seen cats chase off dogs twice there size lol.

Exactly, Cowmu. That's what I meant, they are different kinds of intelligence. Comparing them doesn't work.
