They haven't done the pet design pass (of awesomeness) yet, but yes I would assume this gets replaced. Unless Blizz has bigger...sneakier plans for pet trees.

Wonder what they could replace it with though, maybe a health restore instead? Hunters already have lots of focussey...things.

Right now my serpent thinks that having focus means I have 0 mana, so it tries to use it on me every chance it gets.....

Well, he is technically right...

Personally, I think that particular talent might just be removed.
If not, maybe a boost to regeneration speed or something similar to talented Tiger's Fury (restores 60 energy). Most likely the latter, since any "over time" effect could probably be combined with several others and give infinite focus for a short period.

It could have us recover focus instead, but it'd be more useful to replace it with something else, probably.

It would be nice if they'd replace it with a health regeneration ability. Spirit bond is nice, but still to slow.

Another spell that is completely out of place for the class. Like when rogues got an AoE. Or now in cata, as they're getting a self-heal.

To be honest I think everyclass needs atleast one self-heal spell. The amount healed though should be much less then what a healing class can do though to avoid issues...I think something along the lines of gift of the naruu or lifeblood would be good, with a 2min CD or something.

It does make it easier to have real fights instead of who-has-the-best-burst fights of WotLK.. Most memorable fight I had was vs an undead rogue in Un'Goro back in Vanilla. First round took 5mins, second took almost 10 and third ended in a draw (can't remember why).

Anyway, back on topic: it would be nice if they make it a heal, but I kinda doubt it. Can almost guarantee that people will whine like crazy over Widow Venom healing, so another one would probably make wow forums crash.

Ofc, they could make it only reachable by BM specc..

Either that or they could make it accelerate focus regen for a short period

Agreed with Focus Regen idea.

However, I'm more hopeful for a pet tree redesign --- only on the choose the pet then tree option --- -not tree then pet.

Wait!
didn't they say that some pets would have group buffs that benefit certain classes?

This was one reason I was keeping my Wind Serpent for my hunter who dual-boxes with my Priest. They mentioned something about Wind Serpents having a group buff that would help magic users regen mana.

I can see this sort of effect making hunters more desirable in groups/raids. Imagine if it becomes a GOOD thing to have 2 or 3 hunters in a group just for the different class buffs that their different pets can provide?

Instead of groups insisting any hunter ONLY have a wolf, you could see them say "we need 1 hunter with wolf, one with Wind serpent and one with...."

A bit of palindromic wisdom:

I love pets - combat or non.

That's all going to be (hopefully) addressed in the pet class review that should be forthcoming. None of that is set in stone though.

It really would be awesome if different pets brought different advantages to a group situation.
I think that could be one of the most pivotal changes to the entire Hunter class. It would definitely be "unique".

'Advantages' will be more like toned-down player buffs, I believe, to fill in spots that a group/raid might not have at that particular time. So we can switch between pets and be a lot more useful. I hope they go as far as weakened King/Mark of the Wild/Fortitude etc though, and the pet we use isn't a huge dps loss.

Regardless, I can't wait to try out some other pets, as nice as my wolf is it gets a little boring using the same pet day after day.

I think THIS comment is the one that points to just how pivotal this change to Hunters and their pets could be.
Why bother giving us the ability to tame pets with so many different abilities, if the grouping situation is simply going to force us to conform, conform, conform, to someone else's idea of what pet we should have.

I AM looking forward to this potential change.
Maybe it will finally rid the game of the stigma associated with Hunters?

I agree; I'd also like to be able to bring different pets to a raid JUST BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT. :D

I seriously doubt it. :D

That stigma has been with us since vanilla. Then it stayed msotly similar trough TBC, slightly better because we finally got proper itemization, and then in WOTLK it got much better, not really sure why. At least I don't get "no. u hunter. u go away." anymore when I ask to join a pug. :P
