Yep! And it makes life easier for the raiding/PvPing types who want the option, but who aren't necessarily campers.

Just because spirit beasts don't currently work that way, it doesn't mean that they shouldn't. There are still plenty of rares to appease those who want the status symbol bragging rights extremely shiny option.

I'd personally recommend a completely different look for any potential common spirit beast, just so they're special too, regardless of rare status.

But you have to remember, when it comes to the Blizzard art department it's easier to rehash than make new. If this was to come to pass, I can totally see a Skoll with slightly different colors being made that common Spirit Beast instead of a new pet, leaving the new to be a rare.
Now that is a really good point, and not something I thought of before..

I also agree that having a second, more common pet family that also has the ability to heal. Even though I still don't see a reason to be so protective over the Spirit Beast family staying rare, anything to have a common option of a healing pet. ^^

Some may call me an elitist, some a purist, a lot have called me worse; but here is my stance on Spirit Beasts.

The name alone, it sounds exotic. It sounds mythical and legendary. Especially in Wrath of the Lich King when some of these were only available at level cap. I remember seeing someone with Skoll for the first time and my eyes going wide: "Holy Jesus on a pickle sammich I want that!" I looked up what it was, discovered this site and from there, Spirit Beasts became synonymous with the word "rare" for me. It is purely a personal standpoint, and one that I will stand by for that one pet has had an impact on my main hunter and the things I have gone through before and after taming him. It's not about being special, or the shiny really...it's the goal sought and accomplished. It's the mythical Spirit Beast. If a common one pops up, then it becomes less mythical (to me).

However, as stated before and probably at least twice more...the ability is something I wouldn't mind seeing on another pet class (for a number of reasons). It would give us hunters a new pet, and I hope would at least make the two clear sides in this debate happy for the most part.

Hehe, spirit beasts are exotic creatures... the family is exotic after all. But that doesn't mean one or two commonly found ones could be an option. Maybe less sparkly or something, but still pretty... Still gotta be BM to use it, but the idea would be to let any BM hunter tame one with ease, to basically have a member of that family without having to camp like crazy (if their luck sucks or something) Don't gotta change the current ones, but add some "lesser" (aka common) spirit beasts to the family.

Just quickly jumping in with something silly. Now I can't get this idea out of my head: if Blizz were to put a heal ability on an existing (common) tameable pet...might I suggest the Sporebat?

Out of all my non-spirit beast pets, I would say my sporebat or warpy would be the ones who would wanna heal me... but thats my personal relationship to them.

...Oooh you changed your name!! Hehe <3 ......sorry for the off topic-ness of that statement.

Sporebats do seem like the kind of pets that would heal... Maybe something like this? Spore Mend- Heals x amount of hp over x amount of seconds

its not really the look that being being debated here they can make a Cat that looks just like Loque and that would be fine or a wolf that looks just like Karoma ( witch they did at one point ) its having a ability that's rare, you got rare items, rare enchants rare critter pets all things you have put a little effort in, that's the point of it being rare and spirit beats are a great example of that no real need to change it.

that seems like a resonance compromise give something like spirit mend to a pet but keep the acule ability and family rare

If having a common spirit beast somehow makes the whole spirit beast family less special, I'm all for that. I see a lot of OCD behavior over spirit beasts, so having them be more common might help some people have a healthier relationship with them.

More fuel for the fire: I think common spirit beasts make more sense than fire puddle pets, just sayin'. :)

This thread is less personal than previous threads about the same topic - good job, everyone.
But we haven't seemed to learn lesson #2 yet: if you have said what you need to say, stop posting it over and over. If someone isn't getting it, repeating the same argument isn't going to help. Let's work on that one now.

Not really. They may be labeled as a rare but you see a Spirit Beast everyday, whereas a tallstrider you don't see as often.

then why make them common if they are already common?

So people who don't have the time to camp can get a beautiful beast as well. ;)

ok then make a pet that looks like a spirit beast but keep the family and ability rare. If all you care about the look then there should be no problem with keeping the ability and family rare to satisfy the people that like having a rare pet family and ability
