Jadefang AND the Madexxes are now no longer unique? I'm disappointed. What's the point of having non-unique rares, other than your own personal challenge? This happened with the Firelands spiders, but at least Deth'tilac was kept unique... will that change as well?

Pretty much the bolded part. Also, sometimes people bond with a rare/named pet rather than a common variation.
Oh and....Solix is rather offended that you left him out of the unique look party.

I don't see the problem with having "non-unique" rares. I think thats better than having "unique" ones.

As someone that has been desperately searching for Loque for 4 years, I'm inclined to agree, at this point, I just want my spirit leopard, rare or not.

Also, allow me to repeat my continued love for the baby Kirixes in the Molten Front. They may mean Kirix himself isn't "unique," but I definitely do not care because omgsqueesoCUTE!
Let people bond with who they will.

*nod* You pretty much explained it in your own words Equeon - rares are a personal challenge, so if you personally go after one, why does it matter if there happens to be another mob somewhere with the same model? You know that you went after and caught the rare, so those who wish to hunt the named rare mobs can do so, and those that aren't up for camping can grab the common counterpart. Nothing is diminished by having a non-rare spawn of a model. You can tell yourself that the pet is suddenly less special, but that's all your own doing. Most people don't blink an eye at hunters with rare pets, as the rares are typically the most seen.
I'd almost say it shows more dedication going after a rare when there are common versions since you specifically seek them out.

I understand what you're saying, but for me it's more of a personal preference. I'm lucky since I play on a medium-population server, the only rare ANYTHING I camped for is Aeonaxx. The rest, I just patrolled once or twice a day, and eventually found them. Here's what I believe, at least regarding Madexx.
1. A hunter sees the guild mount on display in Orgrimmar and wants to find a similar-looking pet.
2. He can either tame the common brown or black skins.
3. If he really wants another color, he can try to find the rare.
4. No matter how busy he is in life, he can simply log off and log back in at various times in the day to check.
This only does not work if there is extreme population, or just a particular concentration of hunters in that spot and that realm. That's the only reason I can personally understand making rare skins common. I'd just like it if there were a few skins kept unique, such as only the green Madexx.

Actually, the other reason they may make them common is that Blizzard created the skins for the use of area developers and they're under no obligation or pressure to never touch a skin in a future expansion just because some people like it to remain unique forever. They use them in zones because they like the look of them in zones.
My own philosophy on this is that (almost) nothing remains rare forever. Not only pets, but achievements, raid mounts, etc. Older expansion stuff becomes easier to achieve and obtain and pet skins aren't much different to this. If you want to remain at the cutting edge then you have to keep striving. This expansion will bring new rares which will become the new status symbols for those who catch them.

BTW, this is the last time I'll enter into the discussions on whether rares should remain rare.
As someone else pointed out, the same discussion keeps coming up every time a new beast is found that uses an old rare skin, and this thread isn't the place to keep doing it. If you want to discuss that from now on, please open a new thread and leave this to listing new finds, along with the occasional "oooh" and "aaah"

I just love how off-topic we get here at Petopia.
Aded some things and am still adding a bit more. Mostly beasts found while questing. Quite a bit of Quilen. Need to find a screenshot of these ghost saber worgs that spawned during a quest.
Also, in Mogu'shan Palace there are tameable bats that have a very badass appearance buff that persists trough death. But of course they lose it when we tame. -.-
I added a picture to it alive on the list, here's it dead.

That makes sense, actually. I'm sure a few players will complain at the new companions coming with identical models to the baby murlocs and Onyxian Whelpling, but now all those who didn't attend Blizzcon or log in at a certain time can enjoy those pets.

So it looks like the turtles missing fins etc. wasn't a glitch. They've created a second dragon turtle model and both are available in WMV. The original, with fins on the neck, leg and tail, and a spikier shell, is now called the "Epic" model. The new one is now the regular model and lacks these things, but is overall quite similar. I've added them to the list of skins over here:
http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... 5&start=92
I'm just noting it here so people pay attention to which model turtle they're reporting. And also because a lot of the ones previously reported may (or may not) have been changed to the regular model. I suspect all of them would have changed by default, because the new, non-spiky model was given the original model file name, and the spiky model was moved to a new name. So any they want to be spiky would probably have been manually changed back.
So, I wonder which on the list use which model now.

Well... I guess we better go scouting. x.x
On another note, the Cliff Gliders are finally beasts.

BTW, now that TS is open I see why the blue horde scorpids looked different with eagle eye. They have a black "sha" effect over them that disappears when they die (and presumably if they were tamed but they're not currently tameable).
And those orange mantid tanks remain beasts, but don't have any diets

Then again neither do the brozne quilen at this stage.

Yeah, someone over at the blue scorpid thread clarified they had an effect buff. XD
I haven't ran into any mantid tanks except for a humanoid one... XD did check the quilen FIRST THING though

And was sad.
