They're labeled as Boars atm, so who knows what's going on. It might be like that ghostly mob that was labeled as a crocolisk and has a croc, a slime, and a hydra model, not meant to be tamed but accidentally able to XD

but...how does that even happen? How does something get labeled as one thing when its not even close? I can understand the spirits though, since one of the models was a crocolisk...

But a random new mob/model labeled as a pre-exsisting beast...how does that happen?

I would image that would be because they haven't implemented that particular family skill set yet and that Boar is a temporary setting

Exactly.
I'm guessing cranes are also in a placeholder family as well. They all started out with a diet of meat and fish, and only changed when they became tameable.
Looks like they're saying "Well, we're not finished yet, but here's a little sneak peak to keep you all happy."

Cranes should have a move called "Eye poke" where they poke someone in the eye with their beak.

I just found out some real cool way of flying, you get a crane or other bird pet, use its special ability wich grabs him by his neckfeathers, after that jump of a rock or mountain and you can fly...only the wing flapping animation is not there...looks pretty awsome^^ here's a screenie:

I wonder though, are cranes even going to get a new family? I think they seem fine with tall striders, since the family name IS that, not plainstriders. These cranes are tall, long legged, striding birds, I'm not sure they need a new family to fit.

I'm assuming they'll stay with tallstriders as well, seems logical, but I guess we'll just wait and see. :)

Nod, it's the boarcupines that don't fit their family. ;) (Sob. :( )

The ones that don't fall off when they die must be quite the talented riders! ;)

See... I dont see the species of tallstrider being called "plainstrider" I see the species in general as "tallstrider" with "plainstrider just being another name for some of them.

Honestly, I'll be pretty disappointed if they don't have their own family. =/ Sure, I'd deal with it, but for me it's like putting a Wader in with Ratites.

I think cranes should have their own families too. They're so different from Tallstriders, IMO.

Well, the real question is, "Are cranes different enough from tallstriders to have their own family ability?" It's a hard call. I mean, look at the birds of prey family - that didn't always exist either, but in hindsight, it was a good (overall) move. Certain combinations don't make as much sense (like parrots and snatch), but overall, they do belong with the rest of the birds.

Personally, I'd say no. Both are tall, grounded (for WoW-intensive purposes) birds and when compared to the rest of the field, they should be grouped together.

Porcupines, on the other hand....well, we'll see what happens.
