Quivering wrote:The more I think about the way they are doing weapons, the more I don't like it. I do like the idea of mogging a 2H for my Survival hunter (assuming I like the playstyle), and I do like the idea of an artifact weapon, it "leveling" up and so on, but I don't like how they are forcing each spec to that one weapon class/look. This especially true of specs that have multiple choices, like Frost DK and Fury Warrior. I hate dual wield Frost, but tough luck right?
However thats not the worst thing. The worst thing is the only *new* look for weapon your spec will get is simply a variant of the artifact weapon. Sure they look amazing, but its very very limiting. Ashbringer with Ret paladins are the prime example. All the variants and colors of Ashbringer are cool, but make no mistake, they are every one Ashbringer.
Imagine if this system was in WoD. Ret pally gets the Ashbringer and its variants, but they can *never* use the other models that were in WoD, particularly the Blackhand. If you want something other than an Ashbringer variant, your only option is something that already exists from MoP back. Outside of Ashbringer variants, theres nothing new. I dont like this aspect of it, not one bit. The artifact system, while cool, does not sound good enough for such needless sweeping limitations.

This was part of my problem with it. The "There are no new weapon drops. You'll be working your artifact weapon"
So if I don't like my weapon (For instance, if BM get the gun) My only option is to TMog it into an 'old' weapon from before legion. It's forcing me to use one type of weapon and every class has a number of weapons open to them. (To some extent)
Mymage for example.. I don't want a sword and off hand. All my mages use staves.
We've got alot of time before it comes out next year. Maybe they'll loosen up on it a bit. I think theyr'e going to get some push back from this.

At least you can transmog over the artifact and make it a bow, though it would suck if you wanted it to look like the artifact. I really hate guns normally, but have you tried some of the recent ones? The sounds (at least in some) are quite different to the old ones and were really quite (for me) tolerable. More of a slugging noise, like it has a silencer on, but still gives a satisfying thunk so you feel you hit something good. Maybe the artifact will be the same.

Yeah they changed the sounds on the guns in WoD to be much quieter. Too many people were complaining about the noise. They sound like BB rifles now. lol

To me they sound like paintball guns. But that's fine; I HATED the constant BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG.

Well it depends on the races in a way. It's really hard to forget this guy!

perhaps if the sound isn't horrible I'll think on it, but I still prefer the pretty bow overall... its just..works so much better

I just realized that this means there will be no new weapons to collect for xmog this whole xpac:( there will only be your artifact. And they stated that while you can mog your artifact into a different gun, you can mog an old/new gun into an artifact. once the xpack is over and another one begins everything we had will be lost. unless they never add new weapons ever again. which would be just as sad.

They said that straight up during the announcement. That there won't be weapon drops during this expansion. That your artifact weapon is what you're getting.

Hopefully the artifact weapons will only be for this expac though, and not for the rest of WoW... no new weapons really would suck just from a cosmetic point of view.

Well sorta like I said in another thread. I think people would swallow the artifact weapons a touch better if we DID get weapon drops and other models this expansion. So we wern't locked into 'One weapon, OR old stuff" If we had some other new options, I think it'd go over a bit better.

I'm glad we don't get weapon drops. I hate them.

The idea of no new weapon looks though... No quest reward weapons, no dungeons, no heroics, no raid. I think it's fun seeing the new looks each expansion and it'd be a shame if we never saw another weapon aside from the legendaries/"artifacts"

The upgrading artifact does have new looks. We haven't seen them all yet, you know. It changes as it gets stronger. Also there's a crapton of customization you can do for it. Not only does it change as it gets stronger, and per spec, you can change the color of it too like they do for Heroes of the Storm. Probably lots more too.
Also, be honest, you have a favorite mog. You stick with it the entire expansion if not longer. I have ONE staff look I've always used. Always. I mogged it over everything. Very rarely did I ever change it. Same goes for a lot of people I know. They have one look they always use for a certain mog set so really.....weapon drops are just pointless. My fiance was stuck with the weapon from two raids ago due to his rng luck. With this new system, he won't have to worry about that.

But you can't use the artifacts appearance for transmog in future expansions unless the devs change their minds.
For my main, I do have my favorite bow for mog. But that doesn't mean a new weapon will never come along in the future that'll make me replace it.
Maybe they could add purely cosmetic weapons? No stats, ilvl one... Perfect for transmog. I just think this expac could bring some amazing weapon styles between the naga, night elves, legion, vrykul... And it's a shame if we never got to see any.

Sure, but that doesn't mean that there is not an rng drop to UPGRADE our weapon to make them viable in later patches.

We don't know that Lupen. I don't recall reading anything saying we couldn't. It's not a legendary. They did mention they're revamping the mog system.
@Pop
From what it looks like, there isn't. It's got its own leveling tree.

I'm sure they'll add more cosmetic appearances for the artifacts down the line.
Not having to design quest reward weapons, dungeon and raid weapon drops, and PVP weapon skins will free the art team up and allow them to go buck wild designing new artifact skins.
I'm actually quite excited to see what they come up with.

It would be awesome if the STATS scale as we progress as well.

Does anyone else feels unhappy with how the Eagle Spear looks? it doesn't look like a Tauren weapon, at all. Should had added TOTEM.

I only played 1 months in WOD. Now I heard about the new expension and went straight to mmo-champion to see al the information.
Dont like MM change. In vanilla I played with my shammy but changed in TBC to hunter because of the pet. So I never gonne use MM spec again.
Surv become melee spec: dont know what to thing about that. I dont like pure melee classe/spec. I hope surv hunter is a combination of spells and melee, like Deathknights. Lucky I have kept alot of my old 2h!

Totally agree. I have alot weapons in my bank but only used 3 weapons for transmorg: goldenbow from sunwell/ICC bow and Rhok'delar, Longbow of the Ancient Keepers.
The last expensions I always transmorg my weapon to the Rhok'dela bow.
I do not think many people change the look of their weapon every week!
