Model, skin, animations, sound effects, family skill etc.
I was assigned an Orange and black Outlands spider. I chose Deathskitter, a lvl 64 elite from Terokar Forest. He was easy to find and there is an area on his path (ditch sorta looking thing) to stand that is out of range of the other spiders for untroubled taming. At level 70, he did me quite a lot of damage. Nearly killed me actually. I recommend a frosttrap. And not standing in front of said frosttrap when you cast tame. ;)
He shrunk an amazing amount when tamed. Compared to my Tauren he looked like a vanity pet, which I found rather endearing.
The model is awesome and nicely detailed. The animations are, well, spidery! :) He has a cute little spider roar he does when attacking. The only thing I disliked about the model is that it lacks a real swim animation (looks like he's just walking) or jump animation.
I think the skin is beautiful. It reminds me of RL orbweaver spiders.
The family skill would be great...on a shorter cooldown. It just doesn't come available enough.

How convenient (or annoying) are their food requirements?
He eats meat, which is one of the easiest foods to find. Seeing I have other meat eaters, I always have some on me.

Will you keep the pet, or consider another from the same family in the future?
I have released little Skitter, but come Cata, I will save a spot for him. I had planned to get a tarantula for this toon, but I like this little guy. The emotes provided by the pet emote addon for the spider family are wonderful. The model and skin are very appealing to me.

Did you learn anything hunter-ey from this pet?
Tanking with a cunning pet is not advised?

* Try tanking an 80 70 elite with your pet
Yeah...that didn't work out so well. He tried, but was a bit too delicate and only lvl 68.

* Level it a level or two
Took him up to 68. It was not the easiest. He seemed to loose aggro easily and was easily injured.

* Do a heroic/* Do a battleground
Nope

* Check the pet out in different lightings
The lighting in his home zone is terrible. Out in Nagrand, even at night, he brightened up and looked lovely. :)

* Check out swimming and possibly levitate animations (if any)
The swimming animation looks just like his walking animation, disappointingly enough.

* Get a screenshot of you and your oddly fitting or entirely mismatching pet!

Firewing's Scout Report: Snarly

Snarly was easy. Headed over to Ironforge, flew to Wetlands, grabbed a crocolisk. No problem. Almost named him WelcomeCroc, in reference to Welcome Bear, do to his placement as he usually chewed newbies up on the IF run. Like me. He went after my friend, she was all, "SAVE YOURSELF!" and so I ended up making it, and she died. xD

I've had a crocolisk before, a white one, and didn't like it much. So Snarly reminded me why I didn't like the thing....

Named him Snarly, because it was that or Hiss. Both seem appropriate names.

* Try tanking an 80 elite with your pet
We went for the Horror again, and he did very well. When the thing had reached Kill shot, I got aggro, but we killed it.
* Do a heroic
I avoided heroics this time just because Fire has bad gear. Like, old Naxx gear, so I'm waiting for Cata.
* Do a battleground
Queued up, but it wouldn't let me in the battleground....
* Check the pet out in different lightings
He's green in his homelands, and gray/yellow in Icecrown.
* Check out swimming and possibly levitate animations (if any)
His swimming animationI liked. Very fluid. His walking animation drove me nuts, because he waddled.

Other Info:

He eats meat, which is predominantly what everyone else in my stables eats. No problem there. His jump annoyed me. He just kind of stiffly hopped upwards, like someone is picking him up. I think someone else had the same problem with their crab.

I didn't like Snarly. I'm not going to pick up a croc again, however, I think come Cata I might pick up a Tenacity pet.

----

On that note.....

Thirds please? Firewing, Level 80 BM hunter.

Stables: Iorek, Shattered Warhound Wolf, Moonlight, Rak'shiri, Bayne, King Krush, Artemis, Loque'nahak.

Oh my, Deathskitter looks awesome! I want to see it in bright light, your decription of it in Nagrand is vivid :P Edit: I also just noticed your guild chat. Best personal ad, EVER.

And the crocolisk story reinforces my desire to NOT have one. The albino has tempted me a couple times but they seem so noisy O.o

Hrm, a plagued piggy and a wolf. The pig won't be that hard seeing as there's only one place to get it...but I have so many black worgs to choose from on Taigi! XD

Well I'll start with Silinrul I guess. /runs off to tame!

I'm aware the first two may be serious challenges, especially considering your level; if you want different ones let me know.
I've made a start. I actually meant a selection of pets for my several hunter alts... the three given will all have to be done on my "main" hunter, Kytlin of Dath'Remar.

I released my red carrion bird back to his home in Tanaris. Its likely breeding season soon and hes a lot better off than when i found him.

Acherontia asigned the green/gold silithid but linked the purple as well. I've grabbed the easiest one, a Centipaar Sandreaver from Tanaris, just near my bird's home.

So far, Jitterbug is a great little pet. Hes still a few levels below Kytlin, but has no troubles munching on the standard mobs I've been killing for quests. His web special ability is pretty nice for holding the target mob just exactly where i want him but the cooldown is too long to be really useful.

The silithid is a very hyperactive little bug. Its wings are always in motion and it is forever doing its little side-leap animation. We havent yet been swimming or levitating. "Little" is perhaps not the right description either.. hes quite tall and wide. Silithids use a very similar swim animation to the ravagers. They lack a jump animation.

Edit: I've leveled Jitterbug up to parity with my hunter. Hes still pretty handy against normal mobs but (as most cunning pets) weak against same-level elites. Havent yet tried a BG with him.

The other two pets will have to wait a bit as I've yet to hit 70!

Ok, I'll go re-tame him quick and get some better pics in nice lighting. He deserves to shine. :D
Then, I'll go get myself that grey turtle and give him a test drive. :)

Raptor Review is done!

Name: Dragonfly
Species/Color: A blue raptor, previously Sarltooth.
Level: 79, was 30 something.
Screenshot: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jyFJzg015L4/T ... 00243.jpeg <- Again, large picture.

Thoughts on appearance: He's so pretty. Maybe I just love all pets, but Dragonfly, too, was gorgeous. I loved his yellow and orange decorations and his dark blue stripes. The only negative is his weird really big eyes, but after some thought I decided they add to his personality. He's paranoid and aggressive and everything's out to get him. His gait is nice and smooth, along with his walking animation. I love how he attacks, much more movement and grace then most other beasts. His sounds are fairly nice but nothing special. I have a problem with his swimming animation, though. Idle, he's adorable. When swimming forward, however, his head bows down and his neck bends at a weird, jagged angle that just looks unnatural.

Thoughts on abilities in dungeons: He's better then Dusty, the hyena. His special skill, Rend, does more damage. Sturdy enough and high enough damage, but not a wolf.

Thoughts on abilities solo: A solid pet, high damage, and keeps aggro fairly well. Better then the hyena, I must admit. Nothing too special, but a good solid pet none the less.

Overall thoughts: He's great. I've had raptors before, but I really like the blue color. Enjoyable to kill mass amounts of helpless mammoths with him around. Perhaps come Cata he'll have a spot in the stables.

Thirds? ^.^ Rassaa, 80 BM/MM hunter. Red lynx, red hyena, yellow coyote, OCJ.

Started my first challenge with Silinrul!

I let Kronuque ("venom digger"), my Disembodied Jormungar, go free in EPL. Since he's a giant flesh-eating worm I figure the least he could do is help take down a few scourge and there are plenty of other things for him to eat there as well.

The tame itself was easy. There were plenty to choose from so I picked a rather inquisitive little piggy that seemed to be trying to get into one of the grain silos. I named him Dhaundax which means "Infested Nomad" in drow (Silinrul has a drow naming theme).
Boar1.png
Boar1.png (904.43 KiB) Viewed 1582 times
First thing I noticed is that he eats anything. Which is very convenient, I was able to unload some vendor trash off on him and he chowed down. Second was that his emotes are ADORABLE. I didn't even care if he was spewing all manner of plague and bodily fluids on me, as long as he kept being adorable by "running in circles, grunting in delight" and "rubbing up against his mistress' leg, wanting to be scratched." SQUEE.

Since I was RIGHT THERE, I decided to do a quick Baron's run in Strathholme to see if I could get the mount. No mount, sadly :( But Dhaundax did a surprisingly good job holding aggro against all those mob packs, especially considering I was 5 levels above him and he had a lot to compete with! It was also good practice for me to use a tenacity pet, since I haven't experimented with them much (even Kronque was a recent tame).
Boar2.png
Boar2.png (789.38 KiB) Viewed 1582 times
I don't do BG's much, so I decided to use Dhaundax for dalies instead. He helped me find some mushrooms underwater :) His swim is adorable!
Boar3.png
Boar3.png (599.61 KiB) Viewed 1582 times
Also did a few randoms. Ironically the first was Culling of Old Stratholme, lol. Dhaundax did alright for the most part, but I had to switch him out for my devilsaur (my usual randoms pet) after a wipe in A-N on the last boss since the group was getting crabby and I wanted to get out of there. He gained two levels in there though.

I'm gonna play with him a little more because he has a lot of personality! The model has the macabre look I enjoy while at the same time being wiggly and adorable (I love his idles). His squeals were kinda cute too, though I have a feeling they might get old after a while.

Lessons learned: I got a little better at micro-managing threat, especially in Stratholme. Until now I've mostly used Ferocity pets and I can leave them on autocast. This was a little tricker as I tried to balance focus and still use the right threat talents at the right time. I had to help him out a lot with Misdirect, but overall I learned a lot more about pet tanking. :)

K Review of Green Ravager. since im horde is was delightful drowning myself and corpse running the bloodmyst to get him. once i got there taming wasnt an issue as some have said because of the knockdown.
Appearance wise he is a nice color. and size was taller than a belf even at lvl 40 or so. i leveled him up once so far. his swim and dash animations are frankly laughable imo. idle he is great but running seems like a waddle to me. his Stun is wonderful as it gives more time for him to get aggro before it comes chasing to me. the aggro isnt terrible but not fantastic either.
soloing is okay. if some things changed he might find a spot in my stables but only come cata. for now hes out for me. Ill take thirds. i have Echeyakee, Humar, teal scorpid, and the teal serpent

I'll post extra pet "assignments" in a couple minutes (it takes awhile to sort them--this is becoming a full-time job, lol!). But first I wanted to say how much I enjoyed these last couple reviews.

I think the blue raptor sounds awesome. I haven't had the blue myself, only the grayish one; the eyes bothered me, too. They just seem to be at a funny angle. And the swim--I always thought they should swim kinda crocodile-ish, with tail going back and forth, but their actual animation IS a bit... odd XD

The gray boar review--LOVE it. It looks great, too; I don't think I've -ever- actually seen -anyone- with one tamed. It looks, well, you described it best--adorable AND macabre!! Great screenshots, too!

As for the green ravager--I'm sorry you had to swim and corpse-run, lol. I think most of us have been there  I didn't know ravagers were that large, either. And the stun--I think it's so much more convenient than the bat's. 0 focus is better than 80, right?!

I'm interested in seeing this review--I love the chimaeras, and the brown/black one I think is particularly unusual and handsome.

Now, I'm aware this one is only available at a higher level and on Bloodmyst (again!!) so if you were a lower level (I can't remember >.<), then snag this fellow:
