Since the Oil-stained wolf is the only one left of that group... what would happen if they took THAT model, made it into a spirit beast, and then made it easily tameable by any hunter that could tame it?

I wouldn't mind having the Oil-stained wolf turn into a spirit beast, because I don't care if it is a wolf or a spirit beast... I like the skin.

I feel the same way about Karoma... I don't care if it is a wolf or a spirit beast... I just want the skin. I have 24 other pet slots to work with if Blizzard makes it one or the other.

As a personal (and very proud) owner of the Hydra-dile, I would be extremely pleased if they made the exact same skin available again- be it as a new family, a Spirit Beast, or as it originally was (a different crocodile skin). I would not feel any less affection for my Bubbles, and I would LOVE to see more people with their own!
This very case has happened to me already; I tamed Gezz back when she was tameable, and I've had her for a long time. Now that she's becoming re-tamable, I don't have any bad feelings toward hunters who will tame her soon; I'm just so very happy that more skins are now available! I've seen Veph so tickled over getting Gezz soon, and that just made my day when I read of her joy of getting this gorgeous stalker. I don't feel superior to her, or other hunters who will get Gezz soon; nor will my own Squishy be any less valuable to me. Gezz is still a hard tame, and I put a lot of effort into her; other hunters having the same pet soon will not detract from my personal experience!

Just to add to the conversation.

No, the old ghost wolves (Grimtotem Spirit Guides) are not becoming Spirit Beasts. I just checked my beta copy, pulled out my Ghost Wolf and... He's still a Ghost wolf.

It's neat that they brought back the old Ghost Wolf model, I'm glad other hunters can get it. I'm a little bummed its a Spirit Beast though. It makes it so conflicting now.

This old skool model could just be a placeholder graphic. I've just transfered my main with original ghost wolf so we'll soon see how it looks on the current beta build.

While this is great, especially for people that have wanted a ghost wolf for quite some time, I have to say I'm a little disappointed. I'm not a big fan of see-through animals -- I prefer my pets to have substance to them, hense why the only current spirit beasts I'm interested in are Loque (still hunting for him) and Skoll (found!).

Here's hoping that a non-transparent new spirit beast will be introduced as well :) And grats to everyone who will get this shiny, not-so-new wolf.
Couldn't agree more. I really want to see more unique model spirit beasts like Loque! Way more excited over Sambas/Madexx/Fire and ancient turtles then i am about transparent X.

"Ooo, it's see-though, that means it's special!"

No, not really. (IMO, of course.)

I'd also still like to see at least one common spirit beast. I think it's rather ridiculous that a whole family of beasts is off-limits except to obsessive campers like me. Maybe he won't be as cool looking as some of the rares, sure, but make him avaliable! (Actually, make it the Ghostcrawler, it would be cathartic as hell to see a bunch of people ordering around their Ghostcrawlers. :P)

Edit: Had to say that I'm thrilled they're making this model available again! Maybe Nyx (my GTSG) had puppies with a god! D'awwww, god-puppies.

Old skool GW keeps his wolf ferocity class, so for now they share the same skin with different ID numbers.

To be fair, there are some common pet skin models that *look* quite a bit like spirit beasts, even if they aren't. i.e. The Cursed Offspring of Har'koa (they might actually be children of spirit beasts, of Loque'nahak and Har'koa). I love my Ravage, and I'm not letting him go even when I find his daddy.

As for spirit beasts themselves, even as I'm circling the Basin for the umpteenth time, I have to say, part of the appeal of the family is their rarity. It takes (a lot of) time and effort to find spirit beasts, and that adds to just how special they are. They're like a nice gift to the truely dedicated BM Hunter, and I think they should stay that way.

And yeah, there is a certain irresistable irony in ordering around Ghostcrawler :P Someone at Blizz has a good sense of humour!

I honestly hate camping and wouldn't mind having these looks in a common mob. But then school and sometimes work keep me pretty busy so I tend to miss prime camping times.

It's not necessarily a 'gift to a dedicated hunter' as I've been beaten out by some moronic yokel who happens to be BM and goes 'lol only spent 15 minutes looking :D imma name him something stupid lol' after waiting weeks and weeks. It's luck a lot of the time (At least one person here spent a year and 10 months looking for a spirit beast). So I don't think it's as much dedication as it is ... luck. Although that's not intended to demean anyone, but luck is a huge factor as is ability to stay at a computer for hours and hours and not everyone has that.

Edit Edit: Some peeps like camping and that's cool. But it's not my cup of tea and there are plenty of unlucky dedicated BM peeps.

Edit^3: Oh geez, I sound like a grumpasaur. D:

Well let's see... In Spirit Beast terms, we have two cats, now two wolves, a bear and a crab. X) I'm not going to have enough room to play Pokemon with them all!

However this wolf... I may get. I missed the Grimtotem Spirit Guide the THE VERY DAY they became untamable. I've never forgiven Blizzard for that. XD

Thank you very much for transferring over your old ghost wolves, Rikaku and Irie! That will lay to rest a lot of the worry!

^ Using the term "we" when it is far from "we" (i.e. inferring all Hunters) is pretty goddamn insulting (at least to me), FYI.

But but but but it wouldn't be *~SPECIAL~* anymore!

(You know, ignoring the effort that goes into acquiring one and whatnot.)

Thank you so much for letting us know you too. See? The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy never fails.
As for this new wolf beign a spirit beast. Weeeell, I can see both sides of the argument. Suffice to say, I'm just happy that the skin is tamable again AT ALL. And by keeping it seperate, those who were able to tame the original Ghost Wolf still have something unique in that theirs is a non-exotic pet.

I completely understand the sentiment, Rilgon, and I'm not disagreeing. But let's rephrase that a bit so we (the non-inclusive we!) don't make the flames any worse. ;)

How about: "I find it pretty insulting that you include me in your 'we' when I don't agree with your statement."

In fact, let's all be a bit more calm about how we discuss this.

(I'm not trying to pick on you, by the way. I just thought your post made a great example of how we can tone this conversation down a bit without losing anything.)

And on a completely different note, since the old Grimtotem Spirit Guides aren't switching over to Spirit Beasts right now, that means you can always tell them apart from the new ones with Beast Lore.

Can other classes see the info when we Beast Lore our own pets?

This.

It's just a perk for having played at the time to have that flexibility. Non-BM hunters don't go around whining that the other spirit beast skins are out of reach and that they can't tame devilsaurs, etc. (Or maybe they do, but with dual spec and condensed trees, it's kinda silly.)

There are a few ghosty pets for the non-BMers among us, and considering that one of them is new with Cataclysm (ghost worg!!), I'd say Blizz is being quite kind in giving us the option at ALL. (Plus, with the ghost worg being added, it gives me great hope that the ghost saber will not be changed either, since they're not quite unearthly enough to be spirit beasts.)

Oh, and it's very easy to tell at a glance what a hunter's spec is, due to the buffing system. Just look for spirit bond. If it's not there, the pet is definitely not a spirit beast.

I am still torn between whether or not to tame a second ghost wolf as a spirit beast. I'm leaning towards no because I kind of like Skoll, and I want my ghostwolf wolf to be special (at least amongst my stable).

What would you folks do if you already had a ghost wolf?

Done. I don't know why I am surprised or upset/frustrated - Blizzard has been full of "say X, do the inverse of X" all throughout Cataclysm - but as someone who actually was gunning for a GTSG but couldn't get a diamond cut or find supplemental help to finish a tame AND doesn't like BM, this cuts really deep. :/
