As I've always watched it with subtitles, I've never thought about how there would be multiple dubs. Do you think the earlier version is better, or is it simply a nostalgic preference?Vephriel wrote:For years now I've been wanting to find My Neighbor Totoro - the Fox dubbed version. It's definitely hard to look at objectively, but I'd say it's a bit of both. The nostalgia factor certainly comes into play, but I also genuinely feel the earlier dub had more personality and feeling behind all of the characters. The voices fit perfectly, they weren't just celebrities hired to do the roles. Everything about the original dub preserves the atmosphere of the movie to me, and the Disney one seems lacking in many places.GormanGhaste wrote:As I've always watched it with subtitles, I've never thought about how there would be multiple dubs. Well thats Disney for you. The horror stories I've heard from animators who've worked there don't make me want to work there! XD Rather go to Canada.Vephriel wrote:It's definitely hard to look at objectively, but I'd say it's a bit of both. Hayao Miyazaki is simply awesome (though I personally prefer subtitles).Vephriel wrote:For years now I've been wanting to find a torrent of My Neighbor Totoro - the Fox dubbed version. I grew up with the movie on VHS, and the original English dub was phenomenal. Disney came in later and redid it in 2005, and I couldn't bear watching it. It just...wasn't the same.
Tonight, I've finally found some amazing person that's put up the Fox dub. I adore them for it, and I'm so happy I can preserve my favourite version now.
*nodnod* In general I prefer subtitles as well, but since I grew up with that particular dub I just had to find that version again. ^^Worba wrote:Hayao Miyazaki is simply awesome (though I personally prefer subtitles).Vephriel wrote:For years now I've been wanting to find a torrent of My Neighbor Totoro - the Fox dubbed version. Totoro, Laputa, Lupin and Nausicaa were some of my all time anime favorites.
