The Phantom Pearltusks in Shadowmoon Valley are tameable, but sadly lose their ghostly appearance.

Skitterers could be beetles, spiders, or aqir. They're called spiderlings in the game files and sometimes have webbing attacks, but they only have 6 legs. I know a lot of families play fast and loose with what's included, but 8 legs for spiders is very definitive. Silithid used to have a ranged webbing attack, but it's been a melee snare for an expansion or so, called "tendon rip". Less cool than them using a spray (short or long distance) but whatever, I'm editorializing. Skitterers are the nerubian analog of silithid beetles (and aqir beetles).

The downside of them being a beetle is that I personally don't like the shield wall visual. It's a robot dome. Even for turtles, they use a robot dome instead of the aspect-of-the-turtle dome. Only robots should use the robot dome, turtles should use the turtle dome, and everything else ... i don't know. not the robot dome.

The fliers have cool flying and ground animations. I wish there was a way you could tell them toggle, like a version of Trick. The flying blood beasts seem like an adaptation of whatever the nerubian fliers are from, so that's the obvious family. Otherwise, the same 3 as the skitterers.

I don't think having too many families to choose from should be what keeps a beast from being tameable. If they are tameable, I've been wanting one for a long time. I don't like my silithid pet, so I'd swap it out in a second. But I'd probably use a skitterer even if it had no abilities.

Now I remember that a silithid was a better version of a spider that was able to snare enemies in PVP, and silithids were given an ability that were previously a hyena’s, bad decision from Blizz, all the fun abilities for pets have been removed, in Wod raid buffs, then legion had nothing, then BFA had buffs for different situations, we need abilities from mists or cata back, they worked the best

Been barking up that tree for a while. :(

I’m still wondering what the vulpin play animation will be, I hope it will be the mount special, would love to run around with a vulpin digging as it runs

A quirky bugged pet in Shadowlands that will almost certainly be fixed or made untameable before launch: the Enormous Gyreworm from Deepholm. It has NO appearance when tamed, though it becomes a cute puddle of fire during Bestial Wrath.

This is the NPC from the Beneath the Surface daily, which spawns when you try to pluck a ruby cluster. I suspect this mechanism is preventing the pet getting the right appearance before it's tamed.

So, I just checked by making a new troll on Echo Isles and a few other races.

We no longer start with pets. Allied Races do, but base races do not. You learn to summon pets at level 5 or 6, at which point you have to tame one of your own.

I’m wondering, how in the world did cloud serpents AKA Chinese dragons become tameable, and they’re sentient, and badass, and we still don’t get beavers and armadillos, they are the ones that should be tameable by now, we also got undead, and I think the undead gryphon and skeleton horse should be tameable, the whole beaver cloud serpent thing makes me laugh

Not all Cloud Serpents are sentient. Most are not. Those that are sentient became so due to magic.

Sorry to interrupt the main topic but. Has anyone checked all the grubs to see if there tameable?

I think so. So far, no indication that they are, which is a shame.

Right now, they have the excuse that the old world grub (updated in BfA) has no digging animation because it's unironically on the basilisk/crocolisk skeleton.

This. It's a case of the rule, not the exception. Otherwise even cats would be considered too intelligent to tame due to all the Wild Gods, Loa and Celestials.

I think some drakes are the same as cloud serpents, many that have names are sentient, the drakes that don’t have names are not sentient, like proto drakes, I would love to have a proto drake

Proto drakes are basically animals. Otherwise, they are sentient. The dragons that are apart of the dragonflights or are similar to them are all sentient. Even whelplings are sentient and capable of both speaking and shapeshifting.

I still want a proto drake on my side, even though they followed galakrond

Yeah, this is why I could see Proto drakes becoming tameable at some point.

But the rest? Faerie Dragons, classic Dragonflight Dragons? Nah, those not so much.

Yeah, I saw that from the beginning after learning what the dragons are, but I still see soul eaters winged or not becoming tameable, hopefully in a patch during SL, they’re beasts so, why not, I also want an animite too, they could make a good blood beast, or even a family of their own

Damm.. That sucks... I really wanted them and the gem scorpids in nighthold to be tameable.

The Exiles Reach starting pet discussion really deserved a thread of its own, so I've split it all off and moved it here: viewtopic.php?f=62&t=26312

Please let me know if I missed anything :)

The crystal scorpids should be tameable by launch, unless something goes wrong :) They're already flagged tameable on the Beta but are blocked by the same mystery bug preventing us taming a lot of new stuff in instances right now.
