I've been using Eagle Eye macro a lot actually. :D

Yeah, regular macros work. It's when scripting is involved that it won't work. So you can use a macro that calls up a spell but you can't run something that gets an NPC ID and then prints it to your screen :(

Those are the ability icons for a raid boss.

spell_beastmaster?

What boss? Besides, what with the wolf, I didn't really expect it to be anything legitimately for player hunters, sadly. Kinda lame that a beastmaster boss, once again, gets to tame things we don't. Oh well. :P

The boss that uses those abilities is named Beastlord Darmac, and he summons a few of the beasts (If not all of them) shown in the icons to help him throughout the fight.

Ah, yep. That solves it. Kinda lame, though.

You know, I can understand certain beasts not being tameable, but Elekks or Clefthoofs not being tameable? Are they too intelligent for our taming powers?

Far as I'm aware of, no.

I think originally it might've been a size concern, that stags, hydras, and such (or giraffes!) weren't initially tamable. Snakes didn't use to be either. It's not a problem now but there's a lot of 'legacy' holdovers that Blizzard has been slow to revoke.

I'm not sure you need to read much into why a family isn't tameable. Obviously some could make awful pets in practice, but I suspect the main reason for many is just that they're being conservative with what they hand out and saving some for later.

One have to consider they also need to put it in a existingfamily or create one for it.
If its a old world model it may not even have all the animations either.

I suspect the additional work needed for animations is one big issue. Then there are resouece issues as well. Also, the devs may not think about pets the same way we do.

I dunno. Things we could tame often lacked animations. Hell, I think tarantulas still can't swim to this day. Hyenas couldn't for a long time. Back when pets left footprints, tarantulas also left shoe prints.

It was the 'default footprint' in the code but it was still funny. I just imagined a big hairy spider wearing eight pairs of sneakers.

They do have swim animations now though! I can't recall exactly when it was added (Maybe Cata?) but they're pretty cute, sort of like an octopus almost. :)

This is why I don't check forums before bed. Things like this come up and suddenly sleep doesn't seem like such a good idea anymore

I wouldn't think it'd be an animation issue though. Clefthoofs and Elekks have had mount counterparts for years. I just think it's "We'll introduce those pets later"

Both Elekks and Clefthooves have swimming animations. Plus just about every necessary animation to become a pet. They have more animations than a lot of other pets.

EDIT: Actually, nvm. Clefthooves don't have swimming animations. But that shouldn't be a problem. They would be able to take that from Rhinos.

There's a lot of pets we already have that do lack swimming animations.

My guess it's a combination of their size and design inertia.
