I have in no way done this repeatedly on the beta. Nope.
Teigan wrote:Um, yes, anyway. Like I said, light is going to be a big part of their vocabulary a la sporebat. The vocalizations....I need to stare at the thesaurus and hope for a new word to create itself I think...

*nodnod* Sounds very appropriate, especially since they do all glow in some way - just not necessarily from their butts! Maybe this is one of those cases where the family leans more toward visuals than sounds, simply because of subfamily differences.
Teigan wrote:That and I need to tame a Pandaria waterstrider. I haven't yet, and that will likely end up waiting until the real MoP. I've only had a chit-chat with the Outland variety.
They are incredibly adorable. Squee Striders, if you will! And they're still pretty big, which makes the tiny noises coming from them even cuter. A completely different vibe than the tall, delicate sporewalkers.
I'm a sporewalker gal myself, but those Pandarian water striders do have their appeal!

Uh as for water strider sounds...I haven't actually listened to them ever but I figured I can come up with a few verbs.
Perhaps hum? Hiss? Buzz? Shriek? Shrill? Resonate (okay that might be awkward to word)?
Otherwise...
Water Strider
---stretches out all of its limbs
---steps on a smaller bug. Oops!
---cleans its forelegs
---stares intently at its master and lets out a huff.
Or something. I don't know. I actually haven't had a chance to look at any of the critters. xD So I may be completely off.

That's just it...the littler pandaria water striders dont make those kinds of noises. XD They remind me of shale spider noises.

I'm a bit sleepy to check right now(11:50 PST), but can anyone tell me if there is a pet emote ready for 5.0? Thanks. *sleep*

Not that I know of. Haven't heard anything from Efindel regarding putting the new emotes in and such, or updating for the patch.

Dogs still have no emotes.
I've not been on this site in weeks. So I guess I'll continue to try and think them up but the patch comes tomorrow.

I'm sorry your dog emotes aren't working

Is anyone else troubled with silent dogs?
And yeah, I'm worried about the patch too.

Wait and see I guess, right?

Not sure about everyone else, but the addon is working fine for me post patch. A few things may need to be poked, which my brother (EthanCentaurai) is able to poke at if you don't hear anything from Efindel.
I'm still largely drawing blanks for water strider emotes, particularly ones that can be used between both model types. I've come up with a couple, and a few more for spore walkers primarily if you fancy focusing on those until the Pandaria version is available. Also, if it helps, the one word that comes to me to describe spore walker noises, now that I've had the chance to tame one myself, is rasp.
Water strider bends his/her legs to search for food on the ground
Water strider raises himself/herself up on his/her spindly legs
-- and surveys the landscape
-- and waves serenely from side to side
Water strider emits
-- a steady, pulsing light
-- a dazzling flash of light
Water strider cleans a long leg.
--- Spore walker specific ---
Water strider makes curious rasping sounds
-- at his/her master/mistress
-- at (friendly target)
Water strider stands parasol-like over his/her master/mistress
Water strider drapes his/her long arms over his/her master's/mistress' shoulders
-- protectively
-- comfortingly
Water strider produces a shower of glittery spores
-- which drift harmlessly down to the ground
-- which are swept away, twinkling, in the wind
Water strider lets out a long, low rasping sound at (hostile target) warily.

Hey, folks - life's been busy here, I'm afraid, but things are getting better.
On the PetEmote side of things, I've done a quick test with 5.0.4, and found two calls to now-nonexistent APIs that had to be changed. I've changed those to the new functions and updated the ToC number.
I've also added the startings of README.TXT to it. Right now, it has a quick intro to the addon, and the credits list that Teigan so generously provided.
Teigan's custom-emotes.lua is included (just grabbed from the first page - hope that's the right version) and the XML files for both custom-emotes and default-emotes are in there.
The PetEmote editor isn't right now -- I'm not sure that Curse takes executables, and I don't have the skills or tools to maintain it myself right now.
I've pushed this all to Curse as version 1.8.1, marked as a release version, so it should be downloadable from them.

Client... Curse Client, I assume? Mine still shows PetEmote v1.8.0beta3 as the latest. I'm not sure how often they update the control files that the client uses, but the PetEmote page on Curse gives me v1.8.1 if I hit the Download button there, so it looks like something hasn't updated for the client yet.

Shortcut link for convenience.
The new custom emotes files seemed smaller than the ones I already have; I opted not to overwrite just yet, just in case!
I wouldn't use the client anyway, since that's where the security problems have been from Curse - and we just had a major patch, so even more reason not to.

I've never had security problems from Curse....ever. I've always used the client. I downloaded it from the client just fine. Every update actually(yeah I saw what I did wrong. I probably should've removed Jornas before downloading the new one. Derp. XD)

I have yet to have an issue with the client. I've heard of people having issues so to be on the safe side I only ever use it when I'm logged out of the game and as soon as I'm done updating addons I logout and close the client.

Yeah I close it though mostly cause it lags the hell out of WoW sometimes(A GM recommended I keep it shut off if I'm playing WoW)

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend ever having it running while you're playing WoW.

I dunno how such a little client could cause such a huge lag spike. But it does. Makes traveling in stormwind impossible

I never have and never will use the curse client to install my WoW addons.
It's not needed (in my opinion) because it's super easy to do it manually and no headaches and worries of something jacking up your computer or running when you don't want it to. Heard way to many horror stories about that client.
Thank you so much for doing the update Efindel!!!

Easy for you but not easy for everyone. Not everyone is computer savvy.
I've heard many bad things about Blizz...but you don't see me knocking them, do ya?

Don't knock it til you try it. I personally find it easier as manually installing it has gotten me into trouble. So if it screws up via curse client, then I'm not to blame.
