My thoughts exactly. The blue color is just too gorgeous; going to have to see the other 3 new beasties but so far she's the only one I think I'll camp.

Excellent find! Hmmm hmmm. I hope they give Bluey a unique taming before the release (So whitey and bluey would be diff), I'd -love- to see eight different mechanics as fun as the 'naked tame' or 'cool off' tame.
As for the skin, it is quite nice to finally see them...but with the mentality that they should all be on unique mobs, could've just made Gonny spawn with fancy new colors occasionally. Inspiring new flavor to an old favorite, and whatnot. Unless now everyone hates Madexx.

I'm happy with those that are excited about the new colors, but I sympathize with those who wanted Eight entirely different creatures.

This is a rare occurrence where other spectral cat skins have been in the database since the model was created. Three were made, one was chosen for Gondria and two skins that many people find very beautiful were left unused. Just like many other awesome non spirit beast skins have sat unused until Cataclysm and are now available for those who want them. The only other spirit beast where this is the case is Skoll (again, 2 unused skins).
Noah has been going well beyond the call of duty to ensure missing skins are available for those who want them. It's probably approaching 200 skins now. He's been simply amazing. With the missing spectral cat skins he found a good way to ensure they were now available for those who do want them (and many people do seem to love them). I'm sure at some point in the future he'll find a way to include the missing Skoll skins too. I hope so.
You don't have to like them, and it's fine to say you prefer the original Gondria skin. But using terms like "lame" or "lazy" as if you somehow deserve them to slave over three brand special new models purely for spirit beasts in this patch, for just one spec of one class, is just absurd.
Once more you have said it perfectly, especially the bolded part, thank you Wain.

*Super huge sigh*
I don't know why everyone's saying, 'Blizzard are giving us 8 new rare pets! You should be grateful for that, even if the pets are just recoloured versions of already used spirit beasts.' Because these feel very, very, very lazy to me. I'm not going to be grateful for the fact that Blizzard think they can shove slight recolours that have been sitting collecting dust into the game and get away with making us all happy. If anything, I feel they're taking the piss out of us rare pet hunters.
The spiders are okay though, at least they're Firelands themed. *Cuddles Loque and Skoll and sobs about how spirit beasts are ruined*
Edit: When I see a full list of all eight, I will decide how much I actually like them. I never said I didn't like the recolours, it's just that there's BARELY any difference, so as far as I can see I'm going to be taming Gondria twice more. (Besides the challenge it requires.)

Out of the six that have been found so far, five can be obtained in their current form in NO OTHER WAY. That's unique enough for me.

Who is Noah?
And what's hilarious is that most people on this thread seem to be in this state of mind - Like the new spirit beasts or GTFO.
Are we not entitled to our own opinions?
I think that these re-colours are lazy. It's hilarious that people think they spent so much time making them, because Gondria in itself is a re-skin of the saber cat models. So these new ones could even be considered re-skins of a re-skin.
However, I don't not like the skins. I like them, they look nice, but I didn't need them in the game. It has made a very small amount of hunters happy to see these Gondria re-skins at last, but lots of us wanted and were expecting a little more effort on Blizzard's half. If anything these models look like placeholders.
My opinion is also like this because of recent things Blizzard have done with mounts. The Amani bear for example, the re-colour is so slight it's barely noticable, when there was a nice green skin for it in the game files already they could've used, but didn't. The new bear looks like a washed out version of the old one, and again, looks like a placeholder model.
The new Fire Hawk mounts look horrid imo - the Proto-Drake skeleton does not work for them at all, their legs and wings look stiff.
Almost every model coming into the game at the moment is a re-skin.
And that is one reason why I adored the new Winged Guardian mount so much, because it's a brand new model, which we barely get any of these days.

Gah, fair enough with your text about that some ppl will be happy, but there are just so many things being reused from blizz at this time that its GOOD if we bring it up as a problem so they one day finally get the message.

Anyways, I'm totally taming it since I'm a collector, but I am a bit disappointed..

Chaoyll wrote:Who is Noah?
Noah is our friendly resident lurker dev from Blizzard who is very much responsible for the addition of scores upon scores of previously unused pet skins (and potential pet skins) to the game. He is so nicknamed for Noah of Noah's Ark, as he too leaves no animal behind. Noah doesn't code exclusively for hunters, but he very much has an understanding of this community and has done a LOT of work for us, even though he definitely does not have to. We're lucky to have him.
We've gotten so many more available choices this expansion, including some new unique models and species. This is the first patch we've ever gotten THREE spirit beasts in, and three of the five spiders (a brand new model themselves) can't be tamed anywhere else either. The whole concept of eight rares being added in a single patch and with their own mechanics that protect most of them and make them a great challenge to tame is completely new.
You're entitled to your own opinion of what pets look good and what don't. You are absolutely entitled to be disappointed if things turn out to be different than you expected. It's just more helpful to share feedback in a less negative/accusatory tone, especially since we've been given so much already.

All I'm doing here is giving an honest opinion. If I believe it to be lazy, let me think that and don't try to tell me otherwise. Perhaps one day I'll see it differently and I might like the pets more, but another thing that bugs me is the lack of variety with the new eight ones. Isn't it three spirit beasts and five spiders? Heck, I wouldn't have minded so much if they'd made a different type of spirit beast, maybe one that looks like a fox or a cheetah or what have you. But instead it's two more cats (Think we have enough of them already, yet I love saber cats.) and an owl with a skin we already had. Sad face. And as far as I know one of the new spiders isn't even a unique skin, despite that's exactly what Blizzard said they would be. 'Unique'.
I'm trying hard to be positive about this as I honestly am not usually a negative person. I just don't like the way they're going with our pets and most mounts these days.

Think what you want; I'm just pointing out that in the great scheme of things, the availability of previously unreleased skins fits into the pattern.

I guess one of the spiders might become the scorpion model (maybe that one that you have to freeze in a trap before you can tame it ? I think that was not a unique skin), if so that'd be awesome. The three spirit beasts are fine, and so are spiders to a point, it's just the fact there are 5 spiders that bugs me a bit.

Honestly, people would not be as disappointed if Blizzard didn't make them out to be so great. I love every one of them (except the owl), and I'll likely tame each of the spiders (Gondria will be my only spectral kitty), but I think that should Blizzard have just put them in and said something like "We have put in a few previously unavailable skins to tame, but you have to be clever enough to tame any of the 8"
When Blizzard stated that there would be 8 new taming challenge rares to find, many people expected "Loques", I knew that they wouldn't be "Loques", as no new models were datamined. People expect too much, and get far too disappointed when it turns out the way that all evidence was pointing too (There were several unused Gondria skins, and 3 fire spiders left out, and no new models were made for this patch, except the owl, which was slowly built) is *GASP* actually how it ended up!
If this would have been any other patch, and they were just thrown in and found, people would be far more excited, imo. It's like this to me: Someone promised us candy, we were expecting 8 Kingsized chocolate bars of a never before seen brand of chocolate, what we got was 6 Kingsized chocolate bars of existing brands, only with some sort of variety to make them different enough, and 2 Kingsized Chocolate bars that are fun to get, and everybody whined, even though they could have just said thanks. They should have just left the 'candy' out for us to find, then no one could be disappointed, as no one knew anything like this was coming.
Like it or hate it, I don't think you can be mad at Blizzard, they are showing that they care for the Hunter community, and are proving that by making HARD tames, not impossible to find tames, and this is something I, and many others here have been wanting since WotLK...

I really love a lot of these pets, including the blue!Gondria and the purple!spider. Both of those will get tamed on my main, even if I ave to run down a herd of buffalo to get them.
I understand why people are upset, and I think that Gimlion has worded it perfectly.
I'd like to point out one thing that I'm not sure many people know about. My mom works in software development, so I know what it can be like when there's a release. She tends to work 15+ hour days around then. Sometimes she works all day, comes home to shower, and goes back in.
Now, lets compare my mom's job to that of the employees of Blizzard. My mom has about... two or three releases a year. Blizz? Hahano. Every patch is a release. Every Tuesday more work is implemented. My mom's company works with the military. That's a lot of people, but the work is spread out over numerous companies. Blizz? Works with the world and only has itself.
Now, things minght not happen exactly as we hope, and the things that are put in, be they skins or mechanics or whathaveyou, may not quite be what we expected. But Blizzard and Noah have both listened to us and given us much that we have asked for, even within these eight. Lots of people have been asking for those skins, both here and on the official forums. Maybe not recently, since we found the green!olm, but I've seen it pretty much constantly. True, people ask for zombie!bear more. Maybe he'll get put in later! And how many of you will complain then?
My point is that no one who works at Blizzard is lazy, no matter how much we might wish to be able to call them that. Anyone who was lazy would have been fired long ago. Lazy is not doing anything towards what you said would be in that patch. Blizzard runs out of time, yes. Sometimes they promise more than they can deliver. That's human. It's a company made up of people. It's normal.
So I'd appreciate it if people would sit and think for just a moment about what lazy really is. You have the right to be dissapointed. I am a little bit, too. Using the word "lazy", however, is hostile, deragatory, and rude.
And none of us are hostile, deragatory, or rude, are we? ;D

It bothers me too cause my (soon to be) mother-in-law does something similar with the government that your mom does and it just irritates me to see people saying such awful things.

Right, all eight have been confirmed, so I've settled a little now. There is nothing that can be done to fix how disappointed I feel (Of course I wasn't expecting eight brand new models, god no, maybe just some nice re-skins and maybe a few of the models that are already there, such as Fandral's cat form, the skeleton-fire-dog, etc.) but it was indeed rude of me to use the word 'lazy'.
But I'm not a big fan of Blizzard. No, no, that's wrong... Activison-Blizzard. Them I'm not a fan of. I'm sure you can understand why.

I do agree there. I would have liked a little more variety. But hey, they all have cool tame mechanics, so I might tame a few just for the fun of taming them.
Though, I'm amazed we're getting all the attention we are. O.o Hunters are spoiled!
