> My curiosity: Will Rams be included in the Stag family? Possibly Goat?

Goat, if anything. After all, goats and sheep are pretty darned close. And the goat family *does* need the 'filling out'. I feel rams would be a great way to do it; there's quite a few ram beasts, and the critters could easily be tweaked into being beasts (like they did with sheep and cows).

It's not an antler, it's a horn shaped like an antler. Take a close look, there's no way it could be shed like an antler would be.

Basically, they have horns like a rhino, and tusks like an elephant. So.. boar or rhino family I guess. Or... Elek family?

This is so awesome finally getting our stags to tame as pets I even know which ones I am going for the Moongraze ones and the ones in Ashenvale those two so far and ya the gazelles look too cute to tame but I am going to and turn mine into a killing machine.

They're like this odd mix between a mammoth and a caribou and a brontotherium, I don't even know. Definitely tricky to classify them.

Ok, that's it, I'm so gunning for a new "Poose" family!

I thought shoveltusks were a mix of prehistoric creatures, like irish elk / protoceratid (extinct deer-like sized ungulate) / sivatherium (extinct giraffe that people used to think was built more like a moose) / embolotherium (extinct rhino).

Since warcraft beasts don't really fit real world taxonomy, where shoveltusk would fit is somewhat arbitrary. I'd probably pick stag, but if they were made piggies or rhinos, I wouldn't raise a stink about it.

As far as rams, maybe they'll put them with goats (since some of them are even called goats). It'd be good timing, if blizzard is making a new model ram PvP mount to match the raptor one.

I wouldn't care if they added Shoveltusks to the Sporebat family, I just want one

The more I think about it, rhinos would make the most sense.

An ungulate family would solve this issue...! But I guess the term "ungulate" sounds a bit tacky
Or it could be a bit broad, but that's the plus side..no room for error! If it's an ungulate, put em in there!

When goats became tameable we didn't get the old models. I'm hoping the same sort of thing doesn't happen with stags. I love those darker ones that run around in Ashenvale, I think it is. Very awesome. Sigh, I need another hunter now too many awesome pets!

Make Shoveltusks their own family and their family skill will be gardening. Because they are shovels >.> I'll see my self out.

For some reason I don't think shoveltusks would make good gardeners. I think they'd sooner ruin a plant or eat it.

And Bulletdance, I'm pretty sure the old stags will be tamable. The photo Muffinus shared showing that stags were tamable had one of the brown Ashenvale stags. And they aren't exotic, either.

During wotlk, I did suggest to make shoveltusk tamable as boar since as a southeast asian, they look like something close to home; http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babirusa

Just to follow up on the Shoveltusk thing...

I did find that Wowpedia has kept a copy of the official WotLK bestiary, which I think no longer exists on the Blizzard site.
http://wowpedia.org/The_Wrath_of_the_Li ... Shoveltusk

Their description reads:
The powerful and ferocious shoveltusk are easily identified by the massive curved antler which protrudes from their heads and the twin sloping tusks that extend from their jaw. The moose-like beasts use their tusks primarily to dig for food, whereas the antler makes for a fearsome ramming weapon in contests to establish dominance over other males.
The shoveltusk are territorial and will protect their feeding grounds with deadly force. Adventurers traveling in Northrend would be wise to avoid these cantankerous and unpredictable beasts.
While shoveltusks are clearly not meant to represent real-world beasts it does give some insight into what the creators were thinking regarding them.

There's also the original concept art here:

Ahh I've always loved that concept art. Shoveltusks are pretty cool looking, but I have to admit looking at them head on they have rather...amusing faces.

I thought I see if I could find a bigger pic of the shoveltusk concept art, but no luck. But I did stumble across the concept art so someone else that I don't recall seeing before.

I was all "Hmmmm I've seen you some where before... Now where was it...."

That mammoth art is pretty cool. It's a concept they seem to have revisited with the new elekks, in a way.

Personally I would have liked it if they'd also used the original style elekks in Draenor (even if with an upgraded model) and then used the new-style ones as a kind of "elekk mammoth" in various places around the world. Like a Titanic Elekk or something.
