In the wild, some of them have buffs that go away after death. When tamed, this persists--if the PET dies, the buff goes away.

If, in the wild, a dead mob keeps the buffed appearance (the Lone Hunter keeps the sword through his head when you kill you for the quest, for example), then the pet will also keep the buff after death.

I assume it's just in the way the buff's scripted.

Krunkk--spam it as the tame finishes, not afterward :)

Wow, what a thread to wake up and find in the morning. xD

Very cool stuff. I might try to grab the Infested Bear just for that debuff text (it will match my character Spiders perfectly ;) ).

Shame the raptors on Echo Isles have a time limit on their shadowy aura, so that wouldn't stick to them if I'm reading things correctly here.

Any tips?
Are you sure you spamm at the right moment and spamm enough?

It's also nice just to have something cool for people to look at, and go "ooh what's that?!"!
Pretty much this. Though I have a fear of being reported for exploiting. Though I don't really see this as a true exploit. The pet isn't better than its original version, it's just looks. But there are some crazy people on our server. I had the pet out for 5 minutes while doing auctions and got bombarded with questions how to obtain it.

Spamming around when it has 3secs left on the tame. BTW im making the ghostpaw runner wolfs transform into the ghost form by punching them until they transform if that matters?

Just as an aside... this highlights that hard as it is to pioneer a new taming trick and prove out a theory, it's that much harder to disprove a theory, since the disprove attempt has no actual visual confirmation beyond that the tester thinks they got the timing right...

Pop was having the same issue. I can only guess that some of the signals are being lost on the way out : / I don't know what else to make of it.

I just pressed it as fast as I could, and managed. On a couple it took two tries, but most I got on the first attempt!

I have tried what was stated here- http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7090 Only to find that because it is a timed debuff it wont persist through this theory. I have tested this 3 times, each sucsessfully Taming/Disbanding and logging out then in. Called pet, and it was a normal brown chimaera D:

A buff with a timer still obeys the timer, regardless of taming :(

(Edit--it's on the main post "If a mob has a non-timed appearance-effecting buff on it, and you tame it with this method, it should keep the buff." so hopefully people won't waste time on the durotar raptors, etc!)

The only thing I am against here? The tames explicitly marked as exploits. I think Blizzard would have let all these other pets slide- but do you think they'll let it slide for the pets that can cause extra damage, intended or not, while fighting? This is my one main worry and concern. I would advise a warning put in the thread to NOT tame these as successful taming of these creatures might get Blizzard to take a nerfbat to all procedures such as this and well, prevent any creature from being tamed with a visual effect. And or may get pets already tamed removed.

They did it with Garwhal- it is not farfetched they could tinker with tamed and stabled pets.

I just think its AMAZING that theres 7 pages of this thread already, and its only been up for 5 hours :)

Congrats Acherontia, I nominate you for a Forum Promotion!

~and to Ryai, I would simply tame these while you can, who knows how long this will be available for

There is a warning in the thread against taming them--I'm also specifically not linking to them. I very much hope nobody is foolish enough to try and use this as a bonus.

I was talking about the ones marked as exploits- not the harmless ones that don't cause any additional damage IE don't have a damaging debuff/buff as you will. As I said blizzard obviously has known about the oil wolves and done nothing. Blizzard seems to not care about pets having strange quirky features atm because these features basically do nothing but add visual flare which about 40% of the hunter comunity or maybe 50% were clamoring for. But for the ones labled as exploits, that's where the danger starts to rise. And it may be blizzard takes the magical eraser to ALL pets that are stealth buffed as such after taming, because of the exploited pets.

I'm not saying don't go tame princess and keep her ribbon on her- I'm saying Don't go tame the specifically exploit pets.

@Acherontia: Thanyou for posting the warning, I did not see it. I hope that others actually follow it as I wouldn't like to see any of these quirks disappear.

Okay, updated the original post with an additional warning--the main one is lost somewhere in the thread!

Royi--two of the pets (well, a set of three and another one) have buffs that are potentially beneficial as well as cosmetic. Granted, they do go away when the pet dies--but if someone does call negative attention to the Abandon taming method by abusing the pets, it will likely get quickly nerfed.

OK so I tamed the Blighthound and found this.... The buf actually causes dammage even if the pet is passive....

the method with the abandon pet maccro works like a charmJust for fun I through the entire SW prison and when I aggtro all the mobs I summoned my dog and they all died.....

Warning moved to top.

Aeze, I did say that in the main thread--the buff is an AoE damage cloud. Please do not tame the Blighthound or use it at all, as it may well get this entire taming method nerfed, and is certainly an exploit.

Yeah this is what they were talking about. Please stop doing that or else it will likely get all nerfed :(

Its a neat trick, but when its used that way its looked at as almost "hacking" or "gaming" the system which is heavily frowned upon
