Edit--Kalliope pointed out in Griff's thread that the thistle bear buff may do damage. Can someone check this please? Some info on the buff would be nice, so I know whether to mark it an exploit pet or not!

It's really neat to see some of these skins active again (ghost wolves are back? sweet!) but I really hope the influx of players doesn't bring it to Blizzard's attention and nerf them a-la the Worgen pet did.

Though the fact that some of these can't die (for risk of their buffs being wiped) makes me very cautious. Even Garwal kept his appearance after death... so I dunno. I feel like some of these may be hotfixed D: (Even though I hope they aren't).

It's an exploit. These pets are not intended by design to keep their buffs, and to use a clear error in programming (abandon-pet macro, which by design should cause loss of the Pet) to get around that is a clear-cut exploit.

Doing damage or not is irrelevant. Losing it at death is irrelvant.

This will get out (already has). This will get done alot. This will get abused (AoE Pets). And this will get hotfixed.

I have that same inkling feeling as well, which is why I'm not touching any of these pets. While I admit, some are really cool... those ones that do damage will be abused by players (maybe not our community, but by someone) and it will cause issues.

So whoever has these pets, I'm inclined to say enjoy them while you can (like we did with Worgen pets) cause I have a feeling that there'll probably be a hotfix between now and Cataclysm on these D:

Which is a shame, cause some of those boar ones are really sweet.

I finally made it through all eight pages! The Corrupted Thistle Bear debuff I was talking about is a green one on the bears in the northeast part of the zone. It SHOULD NOT be able to be tamed at all because the debuff only shows up for a limited amount of time, so it should fall off, thankfully.

I'm afraid that the exploitable pets will get the entire method nerfed whether anyone tames them or not. :( So tame now if you're going to and don't get too attached. >_<

We will probably be allowed to keep our visual-bonus-only pets. as always
best to get them now imo.
nothing to loose

Well the Worgen was a visual-bonus only pet and that was completely removed from stables. So there is precedence that these could face the same fate. It's not really "as always". Sadly :(

I do feel there is something to lose though I suppose as to me this seems more like an exploit then a "bug" like taming Garwal or just haste-gemming til you can tame instantly fast like the Ghost Wolf. You're essentially taking advantage of Blizzard's coding which intends for these pets to be "wiped clean" of their buffs upon taming (which is why they can't die, or they lose the buff), by using abandon and logging out and whatnot.

And the fact that some of them can easily be exploited by the ill-intentioned doesn't bode well.

At least, that's just how I see it. I think some of these pets are really sweet, and I hope that people who do have them get to keep them. But I can't help but have the inkling feeling that these are gonna be another case of Garwal 2.0 :( So that's why I say enjoy them now while you can.

The reasoning behind the worgen pet was that it was to become a playable race. Hopefully they won't apply the same logic elsewhere.

I can definitely see them nerfing the taming method somewhere down the line, if not the pets themselves, but meanwhile, I'm just happy to have the ghost wolf for a bit <3

I could have kept it to myself and stayed safe, I guess, but I thought it'd be nice if everyone who'd wanted one of these could share them for a bit.

Now that the 'exploit' worry has been spoken of, I'm going to add my own to the mix: The Flaming Boars, I have noticed (at least with my Luau) run faster than average pets. Because of the boar's dashing hither and yon, it is given a speed increase while burning. Which at least for my boar, stayed when it was tamed. I was trying to figure how I could say this without mentioning it to the board at large, as I didn't want it to end up being used as an exploit.

I love my burning pig, but the fast running was a worry. :(

Oh I know the reasoning behind Garwal, I'm just saying the precedence is there to have something completely taken out of your stables, made untalentable, etc.

This whole "taming pets with buffs" is very similar to Garwal. The first Hunter who had Garwal had him for months. He used the pet very sparingly and never answered how he did it. It flew under the radar for a long time until someone posted a "how did he do it?" type thread on the forums and many Hunters began to experiment with it. Not even a week later, they were hotfixed and removed and replaced with a regular white worg.

That's how the coding was originally found that if you tame/abandon/pet dies/changes shape all at the same time, the pet keeps its form due to the altered coding. Garwal's finding was the roots of the similar tames for the Oil stained Wolf.

Of course, it gained much more popularity as of late (the wolf I mean) and thus people tried it more and more on other pets with visual buffs which brings us right back to where we are now. So that's why I think these pets will go the way of Garwal, because really, they're not that different then how Garwal was tamed in essence. The only difference is the reasoning for their removal. Garwal was just a visual buff and had a Humanoid appearance. These guys have a visual buff and some of them have an exploitable damage dealing debuff.

I, too, think it's pretty cool to see the ghost wolves back. And I hope people do enjoy them. I'm just preparing for the war and backlash that will inevitably happen at some point @_@

The ones on page 1 that are underlined keep their appearance through death.

P.S. My fireboar seems to run at the same speed as my Loque, personally!

Yeah, and Griffley could have kept it to himself, which would have deprived you of the inspiration to come up with your own finds (and the oil wolf tamer in turn could have done the same thing, thus depriving Griffley of his inspiration), etc etc - generally each new find is built on a previous one, so keeping the flow going (as you and Griffley have) is the best course for everyone...

As for nerfs... they're always going to happen. After all, the flipside of having Mr Lurker here to notice our wishlist items is ofc that he also sees the stuff on our "naughty list"... ;)
