Kurken Review!
Mob: The Kurken
Level: 12, but you must be at least 69 to tame him.
Location: Azuremyst Isle, in the Furblog Cave.
Tame difficulty: On an alliance, easy as pie. Nothing to worry about. As a Horde, though, this is a hard to find mob. Typically I'd suggest flying to Ruth'eran, landing on the boat, and feigning death until you reach Azuremyst. Then leap off and swim to shore. Be sure to avoid Exodar, as entering the city area will flag you! Beyond that, just run in to the Furblog place and nab him.
Appearance:
Model: I gotta admit, I love this model. It's surprisingly high quality, without the infamous flat teeth of cats or wolves. I especially like his big feet. I do see some issues with his rear end, though, specifically his tail. It looks far too thick and stumpy and has me wondering if it's long fur or just a giant chunk of flesh. Bleh!
Skin: At first glance, <3. His fur is pale bluish white and his eyes a glowing red, fine white mist (frost, perhaps) rising off of his back. Everything is very nice and pretty high detail. However, again, his rear. Ergh. And his sides in this case. The fur clumps up into huge locks and it just looks ugly and unrealistic, like he's made out of gems or something. I wish it was as fine all along his body as it is on his face.
Animations:
His overall animations are nice. While idle he either pants heavily, his chest heaving and claws rapping at the ground, or lifts both heads in a mighty (soundless) howl. Very cute. His running animation is unremarkable, a fast walk if anything. His swim makes up for it, though - he has an adorable dog paddle, and certainly doesn't look like he wants to stay in the water for much longer!
I noticed a few issues with his attack animations. Well, only one, but it's very glaring. When he breathes fire and when he bites, his jaws shatter six times over and he evolves into a snake. Well, something like that, anyway. His jaws should NOT open that wide. Beyond that, his animations are simple bites with each head.
It should be noted that, unlike many pets, both of his special skills have unique animations. For his Lava Breath he opens both jaws (way too far), and for his Ancient Hysteria he, er, howls. Okay, that one isn't unique, but you get the point.
Combat:
Core Hounds are solid DPS pets, and a great pet to have in your Heroics line up. My corehound has played Shaman/mage/whatever with his Ancient Hysteria many a time, even in raids. His other skill, Lava Breath, is only helpful in specific fights. I suppose against healing mobs it would be useful, but beyond that, most of his use is in his Heroism/Bloodlust spell.
Because of the odd Lava Breath ability, I usually pick other Ferocity pets above a Corehound if my group already has Heroism/BL.
Not my kind of pet, overall. Little things about him bug me too much. He's very pretty, but just not like my dear Ike, the Chromaggus.
Another?
