Some more dark turtle skins. The first one is probably my favourite of this batch, though I'm fond of the second and fourth ones as well.

I agree about the fourth one, although I'm incredibly fond of the third. :3

I kind of like the last one for some reason. :)

This is a little off-topic since they're not beasts and will never be tameable, but here's some faerie dragons I generated using this method.

There's only one skin in the database. This leads to only 6 different permutations, including the original (assuming you don't use a colour channel more than once per skin). So here's the other five. There are two with green bodies and 2 with purple that look very similar but aren't identical. None of them look bad, but I think the first three look the best.

And while I'm posting non-beastie things, here's a REAL ultramarine battle tank (as opposed to the in-game light blue one that isn't ultramarine at all):

And why not a nice bright white one?

I also like the last green/brown turtle. And the sprite darter with purple eyes!

Back to beasts...

I posted a green dragonhawk on the first page of this thread, but haven't touched them since. I thought I'd check them out tonight and generated a few interesting things.

First some darker-toned ones. I'm really fond of the dark red one and the freakish blue with bronze highlights. I've never seen anything quite like it.

Some lighter tones. I rather like how the blue with white wing tips turned out.

Finally a couple of more tropical ones:

Could we get some of the talbuks/giraffes/stags/gazelles ? These all have a very small number of skins, so it would be interesting to see more. It would be cool to see talbuk skins on different models but I'm not sure if they match anything else.

Alot of these skins look too garish or unrealistic to go into the game, but there are a good few that look absolutely perfect and would fit in like a shot (for example the air sporebat, the shadow fox and the blue/white dragonhawk). Very nice work.

Yes, I think I like the 'tropical' green Dragonhawk the best.

Haha, if you think some of these are too garish, you shoulda seen what I rejected! :D Seriously though, I know some of them are rather gaudy but if they look interesting or unusual I can't help but post them anyway. And for brightly-coloured families, like most of the various arthropods, dragonhawks, etc. there isn't such a problem with this anyway.

Now as for gazelles and giraffes, I'd love to do more of them. Unfortunately that's problematic... The technique I use in this thread requires a decent pool of colour channels from skins that are identical in pattern, just different in colour/shade. All the giraffe and gazelle skins are different from each other in some way... different spots, stripes, colour bands, etc. meaning they'd give some weird mixes and half-visible patterns overlapping with each other :(

Of course I can always just swap around the colour channels within a skin. I've done that successfully many times, but it usually works best for beasts that are brightly or unnaturally coloured. If I do that to giraffes and gazelles, however, I get something like this:

ImageImageImageImageImage

In fact the only one that looked even vaguely realistic was this pale blue one. It's reminiscent of a talbuk:

I could also create more skins simply by swapping them between giraffes and gazelles. That looks pretty good, actually, and I posted those in that skin-swaps thread long before I started this one. :)

UPDATE: many of the images here turned out distorted with bits of limbs and sails missing. I've reposted proper shots of the colours, along with some more colours, here: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... &start=593

I thought I'd try another small untameable family. Diemetradons have to become tameable some day, they'd make such easy pets of just the right size! They're also brightly coloured, so generating skins for them is pretty easy as there are far fewer concerns about realism.

You'll note that there are a large number of skins in this selection that lean towards the purple. That's deliberate. I was trying to generate a purple diemetradon, as it was the most obvious colour missing. Unfortunately I generated so many I had trouble being selective. :/

If I had to pick one purple one I'd go for number 6: the less saturated purple with the aqua sails. It's bright but not so gaudy. As for the rest, I find myself preferring the ones with less saturated colours, such as numbers 2, 5 and 9. Odd considering diemetradons are known for their bright colours.

Just thought about something, related to corehounds and turtles.... what about the new model turtles, like Terrorpene and Ghamoo-Ra? Are they interchangeable with the corehound skins, or even the classic turtles? Maybe the void skin would work better with the new models.

I also played with dragonhawks a little more tonight. The one I generated above that is dark blue but with bronze highlights... I wasn't really happy with it but did want to see if I could get the bronze to show some more:
Image

I also generated a few other dark ones. Two are variants on the dark red theme and one is dark purple. I'm rather fond of the black borders on the first one:
ImageImageImage

This one is probably too bright to ever find a place in the game, but it's such a strangely intense red-orange I couldn't help but take a pic of it anyway:
