Yeah, surely that can't be the reason, or it'd apply to any old dungeon boss. And it is a very old dungeon!

Luckily there are other Stegadons that share a model with Skum, so not being able to tame him shouldn't be that big of a deal, right?

It would be a different story if he had a totally unique model, though.

Yeah I couldn't remember why exactly Skum was vital but as said I think killing him allows the other bosses in WC to spawn. :| Man it's been a LONG long time since I was in there.
Sure there are others with his skin they aren't THE SKUM.

Hey, didn't see it listed and was unable to tame due to the bug (and forgot to Screencap before mining its corpse >_<), but when I beast lored the Felslate Basilisk that occasionally spawns after mining Felslate deposits, it was listed as Tameable. Uses that sweet Fel Spiny Basilisk skin like in the DH Starting area:

Good to know :) And it spawns from mining? I love that, though I hope there will be others for non-mining hunters :). I have seen other spiny basilisks around but I don't think that colour.

I haven't started recording Broken Isles stuff here yet, since it's all untameable and untestable. I've also been hoping that macros are re-enabled soon so we can confirm the ID at the same time. Sometimes the same name and look is used by several NPCs in Wowhead, and we don't know which it is. The only BI one I added was the mecha wolf because it's special :)

That will be very cool if it stayed tamable.
Ah this reminds me of good old days of hunting ghost saber in a way.

So much excitement for Legion

If it spawns at the same rate that Goren spawn from mining, then there wouldn't necessarily have to be another source. Non-mining hunters could just run around with a mining buddy for a while. Like a healer that wants/needs help clearing to nodes in a timely manner.

Thats a cool idea, a tameable mob thats a rare proc from a gathering profession. For me personally, it would be super annoying because I would have to bug a random people to run around with them. Could be a problem to find someone willing to give the mob up if its like our current ones who have a chance to drop something valuable. Either that or drop a full profession just for a pet and switch back (and absolutely abysmal alternative at these levels). Even though it could suck for folks in situations like mine, I still like the idea!

If you found a fellow petopian who mined, they wouldn't quite be a complete rando. If there are unique skins from gathering profession procs, I'll be posting in group finder when I do gathering rounds.

I remember disusing some time back with wain (can't find it for the life of me) about the possibility of adding more Gem/rock kitten's that could be a rare spawn from mine nodes/acheo dig sites. Clever ways of adding luck/dedication/hunting to trying to tame one.

Omg that is a perfect idea. The purple one would be just right for the new mana rock node thing. I forget the name of the ore.

Also, interestingly, the name for that basilisk's skin file is "Felslate", so it sounds like it might have been designed for that purpose. The purple one is called "Leystone", which is the other type of mining node, so it's entirely plausible that basilisks will spring from those too.

But it would be nice if they could maybe spawn a purple gem kitty now and then :)

Again. Odd woman out here but I'd LOVE to see a new gem cat with the new manasaber skins.

They could also make them using the gem saber mount models from MoP as the base.

But this is more about using what we have :) Each expansion the old cat model is more out of date and it's less likely for the remaining unused skins to be used.

I get the logic, and for important NPC like Hati, no complaint. It just seems to me that would be an unfortunate reason to let them go to waste entirely. I can understand not wanting to add them arbitrarily, but they would make some people happy. I love the gem sabers.

Its' sad about that.

I'd love to have more gem cat to tame. Especially the purple one.

Yeah, that's what I meant, the sooner the better. The longer they remain unused the harder it's going to be to add them.

Unless they do a model update. Which now makes me worried, as that's clearly a mixed blessing.

Personally I think the Gem cats stand the test of time much better than their other organic cat counterparts. Sharp, jagged edges and corners are visually forgiven almost instantly when you perceive it as stone and rock, it's what it's meant to look like after all.

I think if they are adding the Basilisks to mining nodes, it still think adding some rare spawn gem cats to Archeology sites would be a great touch. :)
