Hmm... Do corokolisks and warp stalkers have similar skins? I just feel like they might...
But now I'm curious to see the ghost wolf/spirit wolf skins on a wolf/dire wolf model o-o

Crocolisks (both cata and old model) and warp stalkers cannot switch.

The ghost wolf skin is an oddball since wolves are made up of two different skins, the normal body skin and an alpha skin that is the "fur extentions" plus the teeth on the model. You can see the difference between the normal and alpha skin by clicking here. The ghost wolf skin is only an alpha skin. It has no normal skin. I need to put the ghost wolf skin on both the body and the alpha to make it work in the model viewer, but it doesn't look too ghostly. However I was able to add more alpha to the model in the model viewer to make it look more like a ghost wolf, which is the wolf on the right.

If you have WoW Model Viewer and want to see if two beasts share a skin type, open up their model and choose "Export Textures" under File. From the list select down to the skin (skins always have .BLP extension) and select "View in PNG." In order for skins to swap they need to be the same basic look when laid flat, aka head/body/feet/wings/etc need to be in the same places. Most beasts cannot swap. Just a few very similar models (like all the birds, wolves/foxes, different cat models) can swap between each other. There are some exceptions like, posted earlier in this thread, the core hounds/turtles which have very different models yet they share the same skin format. Another odd one is Hakkar's skin works on drakes and dragons, although you have to edit the skin a bit to make it look right. I had an old model edit of that.

Finding this picture again makes me miss this beautiful drake mount. ;-;

A question related to this: if I export a skin/texture and edit it, how do I "upload" or import it into WMW back on to a model? :) I've always wanted a blue devilsaur in game and seeing one moving in model viewer would be half-way to having one!

I put some instructions at the start of my other thread, here: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13887

Hopefully they make some sense :)

No, it wasn't a real mount, she model hacked it so that she could see it on her game client. :) That type of change isn't viewable by other players. You can't really do that sort of thing any more though (at least not easily or without risk).

Ohh! Thank you very much for the link & tutorial. Yeah I think I figured it out. :) I already posted my first try-outs on that thread instead of here since I think it was more appropriate for them.

Crocolisk and basilisk textures next to each other. They seem to be somewhat similar so maybe they are swappable at least to some extent. Probably not complete fit though seeing as some of the shapes are different. The general placement seems to be the same.

Hippogryph and gryphon don't align at all so the swaps would probably look like abominations with things in wrong places.

I'd love to see some of the regular Ravager skins put on the "elite" Ravager models. I like the super spiky ones much better, but am disappoint that they only have 3 skins. :<

Ooh, that's a good idea if they're compatible. I'd love to see the little purple/green skin on an elite model.

That'd be super easy. They're exactly the same skin layout. :) There's no real difference at all. I guess they just randomly chose which three would be put on the elite model.

Unfortunately the two ravager models have separate folders, so a dev couldn't just use one skin on the other model.... they'd have to get the art team to copy them over. And considering how long I kept badgering poor Noah to get them to copy some skins between regular and sabre tigers, I don't think they're too interested ;) Funny, I thought it'd be a 10 second job.

That's a shame...I'd loooooove more elite colors, but seeing as Burning Crusade is far behind us and every tamable Ravager out there already has a unique skin, I don't see how they could fit more elite skins into the game.

They'd have to make a new mob...or switch the models for some of the other skins. Which would mean taking the skin away from a regular Ravager. Some people might not like that...

I think in all but one case, ravager colours are unique (as in one NPC type per colour) since they were reorganized at the start of Cata. So it'd be impossible to accommodate those extra colours on elite mobs except as new mobs, or new rares. There's still one non-elite colour missing from the game too :(

How does one check the skins? I'd love to tinker with them, especially in photoshop.

Also, there was a raptor skin a few pages back, too lazy to relink, but it looked like Onyxia in raptor form. I am a 23 year old man, and I smiled like a child getting a new toy.

Here's all the regular ravager skins on the elite model. They don't look all that different, of course, just a bit spikier :) Some of the colour shadings come out really well on the spines.

In order, they're Green, Orange, Purple, then Var1 to Var9.

Wow those look pretty fantastic. I know there's not much difference, but I think some of them stand out more on the spikier model. I wish there were more of the elite models as they're my favorite; I miss when the glowing red eyes used to shine through camo. xD

I posted some tips at the beginning of this other thread: http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=13887
I hope they help. Feel free to PM me if you have any probs (or post questions on the forum as there are a number of other people who do this kind of thing and may help) :)
