Nice vicious mounts, looks like I'll be farming pvp again. Well, at least the alliance ones. I know others like hawkstriders, but this one still doesn't strike me as "noble elven steed". The gilnean horse would look as cool tackless as the ram would.

Seriously, is this gonna be a pvp heavy expac? I really REALLY hope not, cause not cool if so.

Also, the day I draw my vicious hawkstrider idea and the real one comes out.

And it looks like Freddy Kruger and a Ninja made armor together and threw it on a bird.

Ah well, I do like the blades.

Try not to be too concerned about the number of PvP related mounts, I think they are pretty much done

It's no more than Prior expansions just yet, I think it's just that all the mount info that has come out as of late have all be pvp mounts.

We've always have Gladiator Mounts since BC (infernals), we have have Viscous Saddles since Cata, (Viscous Mounts), the Unipony mounts seem to be tied to the honor system (we have had mounts from honor/regular pvp from vanilla) and we have also had other random PvP mount rewards along the way from PvP Zones (Halaa, Wintergrasp, Tol Barad, Timeless Isle, Ashran).

I certainly do get it, but I think it's just the last 15 mount additions/changes have all been PvP related

From a distance it might look like there was something unusual going on, but I'm afraid the Gilnean horse is just a shaggy horse with an unbrushed mane. There's actually no model at all under the armour, nor any texture for one in the skin files. Unfortunately the main and tail don't seem to have great texture detail - there are critters with better quality now.




The hawkstrider has nice feathers compared to the old. The legs are a different texture, and maybe marginally higher quality compared to the BC ones. And armour aside, the model seems to be pretty much the BC one.




The elekk: Again, the focus of this seems to have been the armour, pay no attention to the bare bits. If you look at the underlying skin file there's just a few bits for the feet and fragments of head and trunk. They were taken directly from the Draenei paladin elekk from a few expansions ago (from comparing the skin files directly), but even though the resolution is the same the quality actually looks lower because they look like they've lost contrast and detail during recolour. It looks "dustier". The armour looks nice though. I'm afraid I'm just not usually fond of piles of armour.

Overall, I'm afraid this latest batch of vicious mounts feels really uninspired to me, aside from the Goblin trike. As others have pointed out there's already a heap more pvp mounts that have been added, so I would have preferred they didn't rush to release these ones and had held them back until someone had time and inspiration to make something interesting. That's my feeling, anyway.

So I've added all the latest mounts to WCM. See the links for the actual pages with more poses:

The Fathom Dweller, which is an old Faceless NPC mount.
They're very silly, but they're growing on me.



There are also two unused colours:



The three new Vicious PvP mounts: Vicious War Elekk, Vicious Warstrider, Vicious Gilnean Warhorse.
The horse and hawkstrider also have banners that hang from their poles, but they're not displaying on the model right now. The Gilneas one has a cool candle in it. If you look at the second image on its WCM page I've mocked up an image of what it may look like attached to the mount. I may also have got it the wrong size and/or backward.



The Mechanized Lumber Extractor, which is a pretty cool colour variant on the Sky Golem.
Not to be confused with the Mechanized Lumbar Extractor, which is ridden by an evil physiotherapist.




In addition I added the four new "skeletal warhorse 2" colours.
These may never become player mounts as they could be used solely for the new Four Horsemen. We don't know. I want to include them anyway, because I think they're beautiful.

As someone who really isn't cut out for pvp I can tell you that the current survival spec is really casual friendly! I was suprised too, but these mounts aren't as hard to get as one might think!
I made two more hunters only to get more saddles and got my fourth one just yesterday (I could write a casual guide about it if you want)
Sadly they revamp survival with legion ... guess I need two more hunters before that



I'm a bit dissapointed about the hawkstrider. I was really looking forward to it so I probably put my expectations too high..
It has such a mechanical feel to it :/ really not a fan of the helmet and these wing blades

As for the gilnean warhorse I'm quite suprised they buried it in so much armor since the racial mount has no armor at all.
I expected some thornes and roses- but it's pretty cool it gets a candle

If current pvp looks more attractive to you than legion pvp, remember you can hold onto the saddles and buy mounts later. The mounts are character-specific once you learn them, but before you do that, the item is BoA.

It's disappointing to hear there's nothing under the armor on the gilnean horse. But at least it has an advertisement for a hot springs ♨

I am going to get my gnome hunter one of these, and she is going to ride it forever and ever (please be a flying mount and not water only, haha...)

I have to agree, aside from the goblin mount, all the other ones are very poorly made, no new models at all, just added armor , the hawkstrider is horrible and insanely unrealistic, it has the old flimsy built model, in the MOST NON BLOOD ELVISH FEATHER COLOR EEEEVER, and decked it in so much armor that it is a wonder that bird can actually move, much less sprint while carrying that armor and my own ass , now I find myself hoping for a black recolor of the vicious troll mount :3, also I hope the ctulhu jellyfish mount is flying :3, would love to ride Old gods' buggers and have their tentacles awkwardly touch people's heads >.> and the lower the mount height a bit

I'm not against the color, it's very nice in my opinion, and I do like they updated the feathers. But the armor is kinda.....

Like I said, it looks like Freddy Kruger and a Ninja made some armor and threw it on the bird. I'm not against the sword design but I don't think it works for the bird. The armor itself looks good if you took the array of swords off, which kinda just look....odd. Cause all I can think is I'm riding my super vicious chicken with swords on his head and I pull his reins to make him turn and instantly I get swiped by those head swords, and those swords on the wings? They would chop off those nice feathers. XD;; That being said, the armor without the swords still makes the chicken bird look pretty darn vicious and cool looking (You will NOT get me to stop thinking it's a chicken, a cockatrice is a chicken-dragon. They are giant chickens. But I have been swayed to see that they can look vicious. Though I told you guys they'd put a sword on a chicken to make it look vicious, and they DID.)

I also wish they had atleast fixed the tail. I know they had to lop off the cockatrice tail from the original models, but you can totally SEE it, like they took a knife to the polygons and sliced through and left a flat surface and stuck some feathers over it in hopes no-one would notice. Atleast I dunno, give them a better tail spray or something. I can't think that Blood Elves would be all like 'You know what? Let's breed them with big ass wings!' 'What about the tail feathers?' 'Meh, leave them flat and undetailed.'

Blood elves would be like 'OMG I WILL BREED THIS!'

<3 Roosters and hens are so pretty when taken care of well. (What? Just cause I called the hawkstrider a chicken didn't mean I thought it was ugly. Chickens can be very pretty, riding birds fit the blood elf image, even if I still think there's a bit of chocobo overlap.)

And they HAVE no butt.

I say they need to upgrade the mounts of all the races now, not just the wolves and some later mounts. The cats, the hawkstriders, the elekk, the horses, the raptors got an upgrade make them all have that skin pattern with the original colors! The worgs! Mechopeeps, Rams, Undead horses, everything!!

Is there any chance to have the Scythehorns in simpler mount, without the armor do you think ?

They exist as nekkid 'wild' versions, so there's no overt reason why there couldn't be. I'm hoping there is because as I've said many times, I loathe pvp and won't do it even -if- they promise me a magical unicorn.

I would, however, grind annoying rep basically forever for one.

*shudders* Bantams. *cringe* Gaw dang those hens were ornery cusses. Hunters need pets like hens. VERY pretty some and very unsuspecting. Deceptive little birds they are. Shoot. We had one hen who used to go after out 95lb bull herding dog. Tough tough little lasses. Oh and from your other post. I am half Shoshone.

It's almost like Blizz modeled them after Cassowary's or Ostrich. Maybe both. Ostrich have tiny tails where it appears a Cassowary doesn't have one at all.



The hawkstriders have tails they're just really small. The lack of tail on the belf mount hasn't really bothered me much nor has their armor. It's when Blizzard changed them to that stupid head /neck out run that I stopped using them. Real flightless birds run head erect not horizontal.

I would love to see cocktrice type mounts though.

Side note: Sorry to just kind of cut off what I was saying or trying to say. I lost my train of thought on this and cannot seem to get it back.
