"The Knight Templar".
I haven't read anything recent of his; I didn't really enjoy his earlier stuff, and I've given up on Swedish since!

I heard good stuff about the movie(s?) based of that trilogy though.
Thank you :p The books are very good so far, albeit a bit slow. They also contain a tad too much of christianity.
And as far as Mara goes, goddamn that woman. My favourite character, and Arakasi in 2nd spot. :p I wish for more books with Mara involved.

I'd watch the movies (after finishing the books) if I was able to sit still and actually watch. When watching movies, I normally have to do something else at the same time, else I get bored.

I also recommend his short story collections, I think he does short form fiction well. In fact, what I liked best about American Gods was the little stories scattered throughout, and my favorite parts of Sandman were in the beginning, when it was more episodic.
Oh, I have all his literary works. Gaiman is my favourite author. I originally stumbled across him via Sandman, and I was hooked.

For our reptile enthusiasts, I just finished reading an article on tentacled snakes in the April issue of Scientific American.

I got an E-reader from my Mom for my birthday (even though my b-day's not for another 2 weeks), with literally over a hundred classic novels uploaded in it already, and a generous free selection on its website, including "The War of the Worlds", one of my favourite books ever! This should keep me busy for a while

Which E-Reader? And how do you like it thus far?

E-readers FTW!
I recently read Troubled Waters by Sharon Shinn. Excellent book. I can't really described it, because I'm really bad at that sort of thing, but I do recommend you look it up. You may like it!
I also just finished reading River Marked by Patricia Briggs. If you're familiar with the Mercedes Thompson series at all, this is the 6th book. So far this has been my favorite one. If you're into the urban fantasty stuff like True Blood you may like this series as well. <3 me Patricia Briggs.

Big compilation reply incoming ...

That series is still going? Huh - I had no idea. I'll have to see how far behind I am. I know I read the first three ...

A Madness of Angels is on my long TBR list. Should I move it up in front of the terrible paranormal romance?

I like Gaiman. I enjoyed American Gods. But ... I have a thing about authors who don't handle my patron gods well enough for my picky sensibilities.

Chronicles of Nick, right? I thought those were young adult but I was recently told not so much.

If it's a Kindle, you should check out the free non-classic stuff on Amazon. (I presume B&N does something similar.) A decent number of them are promotions, so for a limited time you can get the first book in a series for free or what have you.
Incidentally, if anyone is considering an ereader -
I heartily recommend them.

River Marked has actually been my least favorite so far. Still a very good read, but I was hoping for more. (And see the note above about being picky when people write my patron gods.) I am hoping that the next book deals more with Stefan - I was worried about him.

The Wheel of Time series. The author died due to a rare blood disease but apparently he left a massive amount of note and his editor (his wife) and son are finishing it the last 3 books, so hopes are high it will be good. We miss you Robert Jordan

RIP

The length of time between the fourth book (Plains of Passage in 1990) and the fifth book (Shelters of Stone in 2002) was so large that a lot of people just assumed the series ended at the end of Plains of Passage, that Auel had died, etc. The audio version of Shelters has an interview with the author after the book ends where she goes "yeah I'm not dead, we're still on track don't worry!" which always makes me giggle when I've got the EC playlist going during farming rounds or whatever.
Plains of Passage will likely remain the last book in the series in my mind (minus the last few chapters, in much the same way as I prefer to chop off the last chapter or two of Cryoburn) forever, unless Land of Painted Caves is AMAZING. I much prefer the overall tone of Plains, I enjoy the little semi-selfcontained stories with the various peoples Ayla and Jondalar meet, I loooove the S'Armunai and the Losadunai and I love how most of the book doesn't involve failures to communicate between the two main characters, as in the latter part of Valley of Horses and all of Mammoth Hunters. Shelters of Stone probably wouldn't bother me so much if I hadn't spent at least nine years of growing up reading Plains of Passage as the last book (from third grade on). It's also got some thematic issues that I don't feel especially comfortable with reading repeatedly for entertainment, but I'm kind of weird about several "common plot devices" that don't make other people bat an eye (like the aforementioned lover's squabbles), so ymmv!

Personally, I liked the way he handled the Gods. I found them approachable and I could understand them better. It was bringing them down on a more personable level to me, and as such I felt he did my Patron Gods a great service.
On an aside, have you ever read Neverwhere? If not, you simply must! It's so very, VERY, good!

I would say ubiquitous rather than terrible

We got a Kindle for Mom, for the text to speech feature, and linked Nooks for ourselves, which read ePub format...and have Sudoku!

Neverwhere is
fantastic! I actually named my first death knight after the book, not that she had anything to do with the story. >_> /nerd

I absolutely LOVED Neverwhere! It's still one of my favourite books, and I wrote a fan fic for it for a school project back in Grade 11.
"Ratgirl" isn't the greatest example of my writing, (I'd like to think I've gotten a bit better since high school) but I'm still rather proud of it.
I didn't like the comic adaptation though. The characters didn't look a thing like how I had pictured them in my head.

Have you seen the Television Series? Gaiman himself had a major hand in it's whole production.
I named my first Spirit Beast (Loque'nahak) Islington, after the penultimate antagonist.

The free fridays nookbook this week is:
God's War by Kameron Hurley. Dark SciFi with insect biotech--Bugpunk!
If you don't have an ereader, you can download a free app for your smartphone or computer. Don't be put off by the low customer rating--it has dropped a lot since this morning, probably from people wishing they'd picked a different free book this week--still has a good rating on amazon.

This month's Smithsonian magazine has
an article on
whale sharks. Maybe it will have boss strategies for the achievement.
Currently re-reading the Song of Ice and Fire series: in the middle of book 3. Also reading Mieville's latest, Embassytown. It's ok, but I don't love it the way I do Kraken or his Bas-Lag novels.
