I reported a player on my server for having a vulgar name, and also got what appeared to be a robotic response. I looked the guy up on the Armory last night and he still appears to be there. Similarly, my server has also been having a spam problem, and I reported it. I haven't seen much of a change yet, but I'm sure with so many players committing so many offenses, it can be hard for Blizzard to contain.
I can say for sure that the GMs do reply personally, and they do it amazingly. A week or so ago, I was greeted in Tol Barad with a genius who had named his pet Rape. I reported the pet, but hadn't the time to get the player's name before they logged. The next day I DID get a canned reply, asking for more info-- when I replied that I had given all I had, a live GM contacted me, and sitting with me there, asked me information until they could find, deep in their logs, the name of the player who was smacked nicely.

It felt great that the GM took the time and effort, as I found the name repulsive. My suggestion is to reply to what you got, and wait for a live report-- although I'm not sure what they CAN say to that; I'm guessing they know about all the spam, not sure what they can do aside from reacting to anything you report. :(

I've also gotten whispered by someone claiming to be a Blizzard GM, and directing me to enter account info etc. I know it's a scam.

I bet that there was a key word or two in that, that triggered the fail email responce.

Err...I don't see where Assault is an offensive name, really? Unless I'm missing something, it could just as easily be referred to military or police assault as anything crude.

True story! I got a kick out of that when I heard about it.

The best thing to do if you get a totally irrelevant copy-pasted response is to reply with "Umm.. I'm not sure how that's relevant" or "as I said, I've done that countless times already" or "I TOLD you 3 times i don't use addons! how is this relevant?" And pretty much call them out on it.

I reported a bug recently that involved using ctrl+# to focus cast with my healer. It didn't work unless I ctrl+clicked, which defeated the purpose for me. I was told to delete me files cause it must have been something I changed or installed that messed up my keybindings... I told them that was dumb, that ctrl+# worked for pet control, that the binding itself was working, etc etc... I asked if MAYBE it could be that the pet control was over writing the focus cast.. even though my druid clearly doesn't have a pet.. and was still told to delete stuff cause there was no known issue (so obviously that means that there can't POSSIBLY be an issue now...)

Finally found a way to test the pet control overriding my focus casting (found a way to change keybinds for one character only) and tested it myself... Sent a reply saying that the GM had been completely wrong, and here is what I did, and tried, and how I got it to work...

The next was all "Oh, it must have been an issue introduced with 4.2, I'll send it to the appropriate team" and then goes on a long deal about how bug reports are handled.. like I had complained that my problem was I wasn't told when/how/etc the bug would be fixed, when my real issue was that no one had accepted it was a legit bug in the first place...

I understand that they get a LOT of tickets... and that some people aren't the brightest penny in the jar... but... If their GMs actually took an extra 30 seconds to properly read tickets... it could save them several hours of having to deal with re-submissions to clarify idiotic automated responses...

Um, wasn't assault... the boards might have a filter... the name was the term given to forced sex upon another being that starts with the letter R.

Assault would be fine. The R word, not. Sorry I missed that the name was changed in the post.
