I agree with Azu simply because I am one of those people in that when I have my sights set on a particular pet, I want that pet not some common skin. Take Snort the Heckler. His skin is EXTREMELY common but when I accidentally released Snort you can sure as hell bet that I went and camped and waited for him to spawn. I didn't want the common Thousand Needles skin I wanted Snort.
When I started camping Madexx I didn't care what color he spawned in and I would have happily taken him in the brown color. I spent over a week camping him for 12+ hours straight and never saw a damn thing. I do become a little perturbed even still when I see posts complaining that he didn't spawn in the color they wanted him to. At least you're seeing him. And as stated maybe brown Madexx is choosing you. Scorpids are like cats. They choose their owners not the other way around. Give the brown Madexx a chance!

He has the same colour as the normal brown mobs...but YOU know that he's Madexx and not one of the others! I also found the brown one but I'm happy with him, had much luck in finding and taming
The perk of the common mob is though, that he won't set off NPCscan. That said, I'm glad I got my Caramel. She inspired me to go back and try for the red one too.

The blue Madexx finally spawned today!! I had already camped Madexx on my other Hunter who has the red skin. I would be happy with any of his other colors, but there’s something special camping for a rare that has a unique color. This is why I did not want the brown. I could have made it easy and tamed him in brown or just tamed his common; however, now I feel closeness to my pet that I could not have gotten if just tamed brown Madexx.
I think its a sign personaly. While looking for the blue one myself i rehomed brown 3 times and killed him once it was only after breaking down and taming him the 5th time that my blue spawned the next day.
Tamed the red.
Tamed the black.
Saw the red again and called another hunter over to tame it. Guy didn't even thank me. I mean... I don't ask for tips or anything but.. meh.
Found the green. Tamed him.
Haven't seen the blue or brown one spawn. Knew the brown could be gotten at any point in thezone. I'd been afraid I'd see the brown one lots before I got my green but I got my green with out even seeing the brown one.
Now you can get the black one non rare in the molten front so...
The green red and blue ones are the only 'rare skins' left on him.
