I've been looking forward to Deth'tilac forever, and now that I have him he isn't leaving my side for a while. I'm just so thrilled and can't stop staring at him, so he'll probably accompany me everywhere, including Hyjal dailies. I don't think I need to go near Deth's spawn point doing those, and I'll certainly try not to linger around too close to that area, but I will most likely have him out often since I want to use and spend time with my new pet.

There's also those who A) don't personally use and don't like the idea of _npcscan but B) also don't hold it against players who do use it - e.g. you play your game and I'll play mine. People like that aren't going to factor _npcscan one way or the other; if they feel like adventuring with it, the pet will be out. If not, it won't.

Yeah I did the same thing a few times to a couple of horde(when I was alliance) guys back in wotlk who were emoting angrily at me for being around them. I was like wait no nonono you got it all wrong! /point!
As for this guy-Three times in the past hour hes come by. Once just passing through, which is fine. But another time he flew up on top of another tree and took him out, and then he stood on top of the statues head and took him out. I was like come on really? Yeesh don't ever let me find you camping ever or you'll have hell to pay

I believe that I was that Hunter that is causing all your grief and I apologize for it. During that time I was showing my other guildies the different spots that Ban'thalos would be tameable and didn't really mean to interfere with your pet hunting. I didn't intentionally take him out to "show him off", it was simply due to it being my primary pet at the time. I will politely have him kept in his slot when I am in the area in the future.

I do know the process of waiting is hard since I was on from 11 PM thru 4 AM waiting the previous night and another 2 hours in the late morning. I just so happen to get on at the right time as he spawned later that evening.

I agree with Nubhorns. For some reason I get SO grumpy and paranoid and *fret* *fret* *fret*. I just want my pet and I wanna go home. I've been griefed and heard all the horrible stories, so part of it is worry too.

That said, I felt horrible when I got dazed during the turtle punting quest and pulled out Magria. AWOOOOGAH. Whoops. I really want to use my blue buddy but I also don't want to startle campers. So I am very torn up about it.

And Pengu, just because it's /doable/ doesn't mean it's not rude or obnoxious. Sure, I COULD pee on your welcome mat but that doesn't make it POLITE or proper. Most of us figure if you're just in the zone with it, fine. But don't sit on the spawn point with it. >_>

Edit: ESPECIALLY if you named it after its NPCname. >< Because then you mess with tracking and macros too...

see, there is a huge difference between "i love my pet and i want to have it out while i do things" and "hey, this hunter is camping banthy, LOL WATCH THIS"

Don't forget the people who see you camping and edge closer and closer to your spot until they're practically staring you in the face.

You wanna camp the same rare as me? Fine, whatever, but don't expect me to do anything but try my hardest to tame it first. But please, at least, stand a few yards away from me. No offense, but all the molten lava is bound to make you sweat, and I don't want to smell your BO.

/prepared for the hate I'm about to spawn

So, I used to be all over this etiquette thing. I wouldn't dare go in a zone with my tamed version of its rarespawn in it. I'd go out of my way (eg land, dismount, dismiss pet, call a different one, then continue on my way) to make sure I dare don't disrupt someone's hunt inadvertently.

Then I realised it's getting really ridiculous.

A few days ago I managed to somehow, with incredible luck, stumble upon Ban, and I quickly popped up the tree and tamed him. I was so happy/amazed I just kept him out there staring at him. Being the only area I really need to be in - and him being a fresh tame that I *wanted* to bond with - I continued to use him for my dailies... I had a few hunters ask me about it and I readily gave them the spawn time. But for Gods sake. I tamed the pet, and if I can't use it here then where can I use it?? I mean I'm sorry if I disrupt someone's NPCscan - but it's something you have to be prepared for, isn't it? I mean BT isn't hard anyway, he pats, very easily visible, in a very small area. Ankha and Magria are huge shiny cats on a predominantly brown background (target macro even...). And if you're not at the computer with NPCscan on you again should be prepared for the chance that someone would snag the tame before you, sooo what difference does it make.

a) can't use Loque, Krush or Aotona in Sholazar (at the time very large quest hub and mine, herb, fishing and skinning area)
b) can't use Arcturis in Grizz Hills (ok, that's not too bad, but again, fishing area) or Gondria in ZD (again not tooo bad)
c) can't use Skoll (or, God forbid, TLPD mount if you happen to have it in case you scare someone who's been camping!) in Storm Peaks (quest hub, daily area)
d) can't use Phosphorescent stone drake or Jadefang in Deepholm (daily quest hub, mining etc area)
e) can't use Terrorpene, owl, or two ghost cats in Hyjal (... self explanitory)
f) can't use Sambas or Karoma in TWH (skinning area, quest hub)
g) can't use Ghostcrawler or Poseidus in Vash'jir
h) can't use any of the 7 new rares in the Firelands daily quest area

I'm sorry, but come on. 3: When CAN you use the pets you like? Sitting in SW/Org (so useful)? In raids (great I do)? When I'm doing dailies or questing - which is generally "the" time I bond with my pets or just enjoy using them; raids are too group focused. Well by this logic of etiquette I can't use half my stable in various zones, particularly some of the large quest or daily zones, in case I bother someone who happens to be using a scan that they really don't need anyway. (as in: Loque, Sambas, Karoma, rare mounts, etc - pain, yes, a scan is useful... Terrorpene or Jadefang or any of the new rares who are in a very small or exact area every time? not really) And to top it all off chances are they're a jerk that wouldn't give me the same nicety - honestly if someone directly came to me and asked me politely if I'd mind using a different pet because they were hunting for it and it was setting off their scan, I'd change in a heartbeat and keep an eye out for them.

But for now, I'm just going to actually play with the pets I love (or want to love) regardless of the zone I happen to be in, because otherwise I never get to use them and it's really tiring worrying about everything all the time.

I agree with you Comett, I feel much the same way.

People shouldn't have to feel guilty for using a favourite pet if it happens to be a rare. NPCscan isn't a built in feature, it's an optional addon. Yes I use it as well, but I truly don't want to stress over what location I'm currently in or whether or not I can be 'allowed' to use a pet that I obtained. Don't get me wrong, I'd never be a jerk about it. If someone politely asks me to put them away I would. I'm not going to go running around purposely setting off possible NPCscans and hanging out near spawn points...but I'm not going to worry myself if I just happen to have a rare from a zone I'm in.

I tend to have my Kirix out as a show of good faith to horde hunters that I'm not after him. Ditto on Karkin. I use them for communicative purposes, not to set off NPCscan.

Both Mount Hyjal and the Molten Front are quest hubs. There will be people there. It's like being in a major city. NPCscan will go off. It's inevitable. I understand wanting to have your tools available, but really, they all have static spawn locations. It's easier to track them.

/bow thank you ^^ i agree with this 130% i love my new pets even in wrath i hated haveing to switch out pets when i entered their zone i dont do it to set people scans of on purpoose but darn it i tamed it to use it and that i shall xD

forgot to add: for those of us who played back un wow we didnt have scan so it would matter if someone had a rare in the zone it spawned in...

Also /agree. Strongly.

I won't go out of my way to set off someone's NPCSCAN, e.g. if I have no reason to be standing nearby, then I won't go near them (I tend to avoid people where possible anyway). That's just common courtesy.

If someone wants to use an addon to make it easier to find pets, including to leave their toon by a spawn point all day while they do chores or homework in the next room, great. It's their $15, they're not hurting anyone.

But don't ask me to change my game to work around that setup - I'll use the pets I feel like, when I feel like it, and if that causes 50 people to have to listen to AWOOOGA AWOOOOGA while I'm nearby doing my dailies, so be it.

EDIT: Actually that's not quite right - there is one group of NPCSCAN users I would happily mess with. Non-hunters who keep tamable rares on their NPCSCAN so they can kill them if they spot them while gathering herbs / ore.

i mean, i guess you feel entitled to do what you want when you want and damn everyone else, but i go out of my way to make sure i am not shitting all over someone's day. seems more like a life outlook than a game playstyle.

Considering I use NPCScan myself and find it very helpful....I have 24 other pets I enjoy a bond with. Using one of them in Hyjal instead of my Ban'thalos doesn't really seem an inconvenience to me. I do plenty outside of Hyjal that will give Faith time to shine. In the meantime, I feel good knowing I'm -not- giving 50 hopeful hunters a surge of false hope and a tripped cache. Because I was in their shoes, at one time or another.

This is how I feel. Currently, my wonderful Chromaggus named Argos has been showing those firelands corehounds how it's done in Hyjal. :3 I love my new Ban'th, but I will reserve him for more places then Hyjal while there are SO MANY other hopeful hunters out there right now.
