Hmm, I couldn't put my finger on any sort of method exactly. Sometimes a name pops into my head instantly when I get a pet, sometimes I have to sit and stare at them for a while. I'll often use a thesaurus to help me pin down a specific name if I have a general word or theme in mind. Overall the pets name themselves more than I do, it's just up to me to discover the perfect name.

Yeah I don't really have a method either. For a while I was on this major kick that all my pets had to have names that were in another language. Japanese being the most recent of those, needless to say I bought several pet name changing scrolls very fast. Like Veph said, I often brainstorm with a dictionary/thesaurus.

Mostly mythological names for me. Though occasionally after a few Renn Faire buddies, or fantasy books. Got like how they sound or you're gonna hate how they look, lol.

Fear not; that's basically 99% accurate!

I try to go with something slapstick or campy or just something you totally wouldn't think of as a name (like Delicious and ToiletPaper). I like people to

when they see my names.

The way I name my pets usually differs depending on the pet.
I named my Loque Lateralus, after the Tool song/album because I was on a Tool kick at the time I tamed him. I'd listened to my Tool playlist almost the entire time I was camping him, so it seemed fitting. Coincidentally, soon after taming him, I race changed my hunter and renamed her Aenima.
My Sambas is named Maneki after
Maneki Neko, because after camping him for a couple months and giving up, I got lucky on a fly-by after 4.2 came out.
My Deth'tilac is named Phobia. I'm terrified of spiders and was pretty disappointed when I saw that five of the new rares would be spiders. I stumbled upon him and originally went over there just to watch someone else tame him, but no one came. The longer I stared at him, the more I realized he's actually pretty cute for a bug. Naming him Phobia just seemed appropriate. ^_^;
When I tamed Ban'thalos, I actually had to stare at him for awhile before naming him. I ended up naming him Hikari, which is Japanese for "light". It finally clicked and I sat there wondering how it took me so long to come up with that. xD Naming my pets after Japanese words is actually my most common way of choosing a name, but it does differ depending on the pet.

I have different themes I look into, if I name my pets.
Stars and starsigns are good names for spirit beasts (my Loque is Orion, Skoll is Sirius, Gondria is Antares).
Or I name them after something they look like. Terrorpene looks very volcanic so both my hunters named them after huge islandic volcanos, Hekla and Katla. And the red fiery spider is Tephra (which is volcanic material).
Other names come frome the sound they made. Tallstriders always are named Krah, because that is the sound they make

Or from the special attacks they do, Worm is called Tremor.
If they dont have a proper name after a week I try to remember what I think, when I'm sending them in. If I'm still thinking of that Hyena or that Cat its time to let them go. But more often theres a name already in my head, Goldie or Bella (the bat

) or Ripper. Then they get that name for good.

I pick a random theme and roll with it. My hunter Aquelle has named all her pets after decepticons, Ajnarri's pets are all named in I think mostly German though I was planning on abandoning all her pets and renaming them after characters/monsters from the Shin Megami Tensei series since I can't remember what some of her pets names mean anymore if I was to reactivate my account.

When I'm stumped for a name, I dig through old "Name my pet" threads here or on Mania's blog for inspiration. That's how Albus, Kiba, and Jadis (left-to-right below) got their names.
