Sorry for the late comment, but I must ask about the detailed robe patterning. Was it drawn on by hand?

Yes and no. Texturing like that is done by masking, like airbrush artists often do. So no, I didn't paint the entire thing by hand, but I also didn't just plunk a photo in there and put a filter on it.

The cuffs, shoulders, and the patches on the arms were done by hand, though.

Now I just need to figure out how to make my .sig cycle.
I was inspired to do one for my loldargons since I keep seeing other peoples' go past.

So like...netherdrakes. In less than the span of a single human lifetime, a bunch of black dragons suddenly out of nowhere... boom, sharkbats. This always seemed a little weird to me; I mean... sure, the nether can mutate the hell out of stuff but that seems -awfully- abrupt to me, especially for a whole bloodline of giant pseudo-reptiles. Anyway, I was tossing around ideas about 'interstitial forms'... somewhere between old-world drakes and sharkbats, showing the transition period from one to the next. Also these guys must seriously breed like rabbits, but whatever.

I plan to do some color versions of this to try and integrate the traditional orange and black with the luminous netherdrake technicolors.
