I already posted this in the other thread, but here it is again:

My guesses for the starting pets:

Blood Elf: Dragon Hawk
Draenei: Moth
Dwarf: Bear
Forsaken: Spider
Gnome: no hunter available
Goblin: Crab
Human: Wolf (or Dog if available, as mastiffs have been spotted)
Night Elf: Cat
Orc: Boar
Tauren: Tallstrider
Troll: Raptor
Worgen: Wolf

I really hope that humans won't get one of the diseased wolves from their starting zone.
I'm kind of thinking that only forsaken hunters should have diseased pets and that each pet family should have one diseased skin.
I just can't get at peace with the idea of walking corpses with animal friends.

I SO sign this!

Edit: I really like the idea of having a mastiff dog as a pet for a human hunter that I did a little research, as I realised, I haven't seen one of them yet and wondered, where the idea came from, that those could be available.

I found the description of a starting quest for worgen, where you are supposed to take out a Level 10 Blood Elf Elite. Does that mean, Cataclysm brings back elite mobs? Anyway, that is not a group quest but you will be equipped with a dog whistle, that, when used, calls a pack of mastiffs which help you kill the elite blood elf.

And there seem to be only one picture with a mastiff: >>> Look right here! <<<
Here you see the mastiff:
Image
That is all we got... A little weak, isn't it?
I searched some WoW databases and found three already existing mastiffs in the game, one using the the model of a black worg (black ravager mastiff), one using the model of a yellow hyena (gordok mastiff) and one using the model of a red demon hound (bloodhound mastiff).

I don't think that we should get used to the idea to be able to tame a dog.

Karathyriel: There are some enemies running around whose name includes the word 'elite' even though they aren't. However, I am much more interested in that quest -- I'd seem the picture, but I hadn't read a write-up of the quest itself. Do you have a link?

I found this on buffed.de, a german website dedicated to MMOs, made by professional gaming journalists, who could play level 6 to 10 from both worgen and goblins.

In the follow-up quest we are told to kill the blood elf Darkranger Thyala, one of the leaders of the invasion troops. As quest item, we get a mastiff dog whistle. No wonder, as Thyala is an elite mob and she is definitely two leagues up. But by using the whistle, we can lure a whole pack of mastiffs from a nearby farm and their "biting back-up" makes this an easy fight. Proudly, we return to Lord Godfrey to tell him about Thyalas death.
For those who can read german, here's the link: buffed.de: Start der Worgen

Neat, but I still doubt the dogs will be tameable.

Keep hoping for foxes!

I don't think dogs are "wild" enough to be hunter pets, in all honesty. The most we could really hope for is a new wolf model that's more doglike.

You can't tame them because they are not wild...

But this sounds like Blizzard, somehow...

But yes, Saturo, I really doubt that, too.

Very cool, Karathyriel! Thanks for the link, and the translation. I've wandered over to buffed.de a few times, but my German is worse than my Russian -- and I can't read Russian.

Yeah, I know. Not wild = already tamed. >_< But I think Blizz is saving that area for minipets. :(

It's a voluntary German class that I signed up for a few weeks ago.

Remember the German I showed off when you tried out petopians? I'm trying to learn better German now!

Yay for mich!

celestial88: That's much more clear than any of the other pictures I have seen! Did you take that yourself?

The mastiff is also quite a big bigger than I had imagined.

No, I forgot exactly were i got it, some wow news website or somthing like that. lol
Edit: These mastiffs look sort of like the old fashion neapolitan mastiffs. I used to have one of the older styled ones, she was a blast, basicly a huge puppy/lap dog. She weighed 135lbs at 8 months.
Heres a picture of them, the first two are the newer style, and the last one is closer to the old style.

Just curious, but what do you mean by old-fashioned vs. newer style? Has the specification for the breed changed or something?

Well they have been around for a long time, they were used as dogs of war by alexander the great. There are still a few old styled neapolitans, whey arent as wrinkley and bit taller and more muscular. Now that people have started breeding for looks they are more wrinkley, shorter, and have more health problems.

Wow, great picture, celestial88.
Google didn't give me that!

But somehow, this only makes me think that they won't be tamable even more.
