Well Hunters were a class that didn't have many caps really, especially involving hit. So it's high time hunters balance the expertise like every other class.

Hunters will only be able to use ranged weapons....AND their arrows
will have a chance of missing/being dodged as well????!!!! Unless our
pets become super duper poweful how will we survive a close up attack
from anything?!

We'll survive upclose attacks the same way we always have, with out deterrance, disingage, FD, but on top of that we will STILL be able to pew pew in melee range. Not much different then how clothies survive being in melee I suppose.
Can't say I am happy about having another stat to worry about balancing...To many toons, to many different things to balance on each one, learning stat priorities, reforge this, restore that, gem this, dont gem that...I liked my hunter because ALL I had to worry about was balancing haste/crit...now I've got to worry about my least fav stat ever on my hunter to boot...bleh...

From what it seems, it'll be one of those things that will just eventually just be another place to reforge stuff into and out of. I dislike having to cap hit because I can never get it close enough to cap without going over or under (srsly I wish I could have a preview for reforging, and the ability to choose the numbers myself! D:), but it's just something that is all meh I'll get used to

wowreforge.com will take care of that.

I actually know some people who aren't too happy about it, but I welcome anything that makes gearing hunters and shamans easier.

It ensures you reach the appropriate hit cap for your class and if your gear isnt good enough to reach it, it says so and goes for a softer cap that gets you pretty damn close. More often than not, you'll be at 8% hit cap as a hunter, easy on the dot. Sometimes you might be like 8.02% but...really thats hardly a big deal. XD but you'll never be under.

This does open up a lot more trinkets, rings, neck, and other items that hunters normally passed on because it had expertise on it, including a lot of things with nice procs. I'd never turn down a chance to play with more toys XD
We'll only need to get it to 7.5% to be undodgeable, so it's not bad. My main concern is how is pet expertise going to be handled, having to get to 15% expertise so the tank pet doesn't get parried would be a bit annoying.

my main issue with expertise though is just how really such large numbers on gear make for really small expertise number...if that makes sense...example: My rogue has a few pieces of gear with 100-200+ exp on it, but my exp atm is 32/32...so...is it like 100exp on gear = 10 exp rating? or something...just seems like high numbers on gear but low number results...
It would be nicer if they streamlined the numbers a bit more to match what the stats actually give. I am not a number cruncher, and really dont understand how stats are calculated...I just look up roughly what caps are and try to get my stats close to that...but I dont really understand the conversion rate of the stats...

so I can shoot my gun at point blank range. *nod* and I can stab someone's eye out with my arrow. *more nodding* I think I'm getting more comfortable with this...
good q's about how pets will be handled, though

Well, given that real tanks won't be gunning for the Parry cap, but just the Dodge cap (if they make Expertise/Hit worth it for tanks), so they can still get enough defensive stats, I doubt it will hurt your pets much either. Besides, isn't that was Misdirection is for anyways?
I might suggest getting some Expertise gear together now, in advance, cause we will get the 5.0 mechanics patch at least a month before leveling and launch commences. The downside is, they are changing Expertise from just a fixed number (26 = Dodge Cap, 52 is Parry Cap), to now coverting to a percentage. So, will need to see numbers from Beta to know how much we need.
But overall, it isn't bad... 7.5% Hit, 7.5% Expertise, and you are Hit Capped, Dodge Capped (Attack from behind!), and Spell Hit Capped (if applicable). And yes, Expertise applies to spell hit cap for those few classes/specs that have spells weaved into their melee combat (Ret Paladin and Enhance Shaman stick out in my mind).

Just one nitpick: as far as I've seen, nobody's said ranged attacks can be parried. So there shouldn't be any need for hunters to have to attack from behind.

smart idea getting expertise stuff in advance... I'll probably nab up the gems while they are cheap so when we start dealing with the changes I won't have horrifyingly expensive gems to buy

I have a fury warrior as one of my main alts. You want pain in stat juggling? Try one of those. (More hit. No, MOAR HIT. ALL THE HIT, GAWD WHAT, IT'S NOT 20% YET?????)
Chances are, like most secondaries, you'll just casually get enough of it on your gear the way we tend to get hit now (as hunters). What I wish they'd do is either fix mastery, or else take it off my raid gear. Good lord, WHY is there so much mastery on this stuff, when it's so undesirable for hunters? Is it some kind of auto-handicap?
