My boyfriend had the same thing happen to him a while ago (same site btw). If you use Firefox, get this addon for it called Add Blocker, it keeps banners and what not from running, I love it

Yeah, I run adblock too. There have been just too many times that bad ads have introduced malware. What makes it worse is that the online ad companies could do a lot better about ensuring safety, and they don't.
