Liked to swap things aroung (ie hammer in the soap dish in the tub and soap in the tool box) though "she" usually switched things back or gave back taken things after a short period, or when we asked nicely. We researched up on where we lived to try to learn the history of the land and any houses that had been build on it before. Helped us understand more of who and what was also sharing the house with us.

Maybe a bit of research might pull up some helpful info on whats happened where you live, might help get an idea of why your poltergeist might be acting out this way.
I live in an apartment complex, but I don't think that the Poltergeist is attached to this place. I had one before I moved here, who did the same thing, only with the salt shaker.

Whenever I misplace something I find it great to sit down and think back to when I was last using it, and then go there to look for it.

Camcorders / vidcams are also good, if you can afford them.

More then likly if this enity is following you around it could be a spirit from your past or atleast from your families past. Something has attached itself to an item or to you and where ever you go it goes as well, you may want to go back and see who died around the time you were born that would have been in your family. It could very well be someone that's hanging around to "watch over you" so to speak but gets bored so has to find ways to amuse itself.
