Wassa, I'd like to start out by joining another appreciation thread by thank you for organizing this! These threads have definitely prompted me to try tames I would usually pass in a heartbeat - like this sporebat!
I tamed both the Blue and the Brown skin, though I am having to change my stables quite a bit to accommodate only twenty five tames!
I have found the secret to falling in love: if you are on the edge about a pet, make a matching transmog set! I really like this little bugger, I think he may stick around for a bit!

Oh wow! That sporebat image is awesome!
Makes me wish sporebats had flames radiating from their skin.

I recently was asked by my guild's raid lead to go tame a sporebat to help fill a missing buff in our ToT 25 groups. Normally I can't stand to have any sort of flying pet due to the constant wing flap sounds, there are some flying wasps and slith's I love the look of, but have had to release due to the annoying wing flap noise giving me terrible migraines. I told our raid lead that I'd go tame one of the buggers, but if it came with a headache-inducing noise I wouldn't be able to keep it.
I was quite happy to find out that the bats are silent gliders, no annoying wing flap noise! Yey, finally a flying pet that I could have for more than a day. Brought the bat, still unnamed into the raid that night. Something about it made me want to name it 'Batman' during the raid. But since Blizz wouldn't let me have that name, I went for 'Batmanuel' instead, after the character from the TV show 'The Tick'. I picked up the blue skin just because I like it more than the green, and I needed to tame one quickly as normal raid time was approaching fast. Might go look at the gold-ish one later to see if I like the colors, but I'm kinda liking my new raiding buddy being blue right now.

I too love my Sporebat. I named her Shimmer.
I still sometimes think there should be a annual tame a sporebat day

I always hated sporebats, due to the suspiciously phallic appendages that dangle behind them. I never had one, up until the major pet changes that would leave sporebats as the only pet family capable of providing spell haste. And guess which buff my raid group is missing? Yep.
I begrudgingly went out to procure a sporebat. I tend to gravitate more toward named mobs or old world rares, since it's easier for me to imagine that they already have some semblance of a personality or an interesting story behind them, so naturally I settled on Sporeggon. This was before cross-server zones, and coming from a server that has a lower population, he was of course up and waiting for me, in all of his inappropriate glory.
I named him Wisp and that was that. I'd complain light-heartedly about having to switch out my magnificent t-rex for the stupid sporebat on raid nights, and explained my aversion to the creature's unsettling appendages in vent. My very creative guildies came up with all kinds of...
interesting (read: perverted) nicknames for my poor pet, and one of them just stuck. Suddenly a boring, plain name like "Wisp" just wouldn't cut it, so I bought a Certificate of Ownership.
Introducing Dikbat:
He has actually grown on me, somehow. He's almost always in my main 5. If nothing else, I suppose his unique appearance can... I don't know... distract the enemy long enough for me to land a killing blow, right? Regardless, he has earned his keep and will always have a place in my stable.

Typie the blue sporebat is overjoyed that so many of his kin have found homes! I tamed him way back in BC, as soon as I hit 61, and he's been with me ever since. No skills, no problem! We kicked everything's butt anyway. He's even in the sig I need to reupload. I caught a green and a brown to complete the set when I came back from my break to find extended stable slots, but I haven't really used them yet. His name, TypeTwo, comes from a UFO identification system, a type two sighting involves lights.
There was a serious discussion at one point in the Petopia guild regarding the life cycle of sporebats, and it was decided that the green was the younger, blue the mature, and brown the older color. Also, the glowy bits so many have trouble with are buds that will eventually produce tiny sporebats.

I always thought sporebats looked aquatic, vaguely reminiscent of a jellyfish or portuguese man-of-war. So I named mine Caravela (The Portuguese for the "Portuguese Man-of-War" ship is "Caravela de armada"). When in Vashjr I always switch to Caravela, a nether ray (which I guess will be just 'rays' in WoD), or a crab. I feel more or less justified now that it's revealed that Zangarmarsh (retroactively) was Zangar Sea. I'd say that it was exposure to the twisting nether that made all the sea life flying or terrestrial, but I think either Rays or Sporebats (or both) have been seen flying around on Draenor.
The casters in my raid group appreciate the buff he brings. One of the buffs, I think sporebats are the only non-exotic family with two useful combat abilities (I don't count prowl, since it's only an opener which hardly makes up for the time it takes for cats/spirit beasts to waddle into blink strike range.

I still vote for an annual tame-a-sporebat-day
I hope we get some new skins in WoD
