I suspect the entire colour-changing thing was originally an unintended side effect of the way NPC appearances are handled. If the developers were only thinking about untamed NPCs, then it made sense to just have it spawn in a random one from an array of desired colours. Very simple and clean. My guess is tameables didn't really enter their minds when they designed it though.

I'm almost positive that's the case, as Blizz has made it clear they were unintentional tames at the start, as well as pets with certain effects such as summons and auras. The initial pets that all had these were wiped, and made into "regular" pets. I remember that purge, and it had a lot of people upset, because they basically just changed existing IDs into solid colors, changing all color-shifters, as well as getting rid of certain perks, like Azzere's summon animation.

This very well may be Blizzard cleaning up this unintended process again, though I'm not sure why they'd choose now to do it, as if they TRULY want to avoid it, they would have done a Maddex-esque system for ALL tamables with multiple skins.

Seems like it's something they decided on as a standard after the fact. :)

Yeah, it may be that they just want it fixed once and for all. Otherwise they have to worry about this each time. With this, area designers could add multiple colours to the one NPC to their hearts' content and nobody would have to go and clean them up later.

Sorry for the double post, but I just saw this. I think we need lots of Noah-themed pet stuff, in as a general rule! :D Because c'mon, the man deserves open recognition, not just from us - but everyone! :D

Noah's Special Pet Biscuits
Noah's Pet Ark
Noah's Disco Dance System (For Pets!)

....yeah, okay, no more posting with a fever, I got it. x_x

I support all those ideas. :D

Definitely! :)

But shouldn't they be Noah's "Special Brownies" for pets? ;)

Depends on what you're doing to your poor pets!

Maybe Noah's Gourmet Brownie Bites? xD

(Sorry, something bugs me even about joking about giving pets stuff that's...err..."special.")

Unless you mean catnip-type stuff. ;)

I'm definitely cool with this change, wish it happened before I wanted to try a bronze beetle on Tufani. xD It took /hours/ to get Yauj down first, and then to tame a beetle.

...Vem is an ass.

Well I now have official word that this is a deliberate fix :)

I don't yet know if it's intentional for old tamed colour changers to keep that ability. I'll report here if I find out.

Assuming they do, then you might want to grab one now if you want one :)

That's a real shame then. Color changers where a nice flavor to have. If possible can you ask Noah why Blizzard really wants to remove them? Before Cataclysm it was annoying that some unique colors where only found on color changers, but after it was changed so that no unique colors where on color changers, so I honestly see no reasons to remove those pets from the game.

Sometimes the fact it was unintended was enough, see: ghost wolves.

So, color-changers... what about our tiny worg pet? Does *it* still color change? And an even better question: does the *new* one still color-change, if the old one does? I'd assume this would work differently than hunter pets, but one never knows!

I doubt this will affect mini-pets. One of the appeals of the Dragon Kite is that it has four different colors.
