Part of me feels that since they added the ability to transmog, they've just stopped trying to make most gear fit the look of the class they are suppose to represent...
I really did have high hopes for this expansions gear look when we saw those Asian style hats and those monk robes...but it looks like the majority of the armor is going to be just as -in the box- as wraths "driftwood" armor and cata's "everything on fire" gear...I really miss the work and details of BC's gear, and certain vanilla pieces.
Dont get me wrong, I do think they have some good ideas...I just wish they'd finished through with the idea rather then stopping mid way...(the designs are nice, the armor shape...is miss)
just my opinion.

Blizz needs to hire NEW NEW armor designers. They are STILL sucking!
I'll peacefully disagree. I know I'm the minority, but there has not been a single Hunter Tier that I have not like (striking Giantstalker... It's too boring for me). I also tend to enjoy other classes sets, most recently the Priest's "Anonymous" set. I think the armor designers do a wonderful job at capturing the current content (at least in Hunter gear), regardless of whether people like the look or not. And before anyone says "but Murloc Stalker didn't have anything to do with Cata", I'd like to point out the underwater Raid that got scrapped (to much of my personal dismay), so it did fit, at the time.
Aye. And as the technology becomes more advanced, the tier sets have become more detailed. The only ones I haven't liked have been due to personal preference and not a lack of quality (I'm not big on looking like Shannox).

I do like them. The birthday cake comparison is funny, but at the end of the day I definitely don't hate them. SB's designs are WAY more awesome, but Blizzard's armour is probably far more practical to produce using existing models as a basis.
The only real thing I'm not fond of is the colouring. I would have preferred bolder, richer colours, with more of an imperial/oriental feel. The pastels feel very modern to me.

LOL heard!
I actually like them very much. Specially the yellow one. It somehow reminds me of some of the old armor colours, like the alliance level 60 PvP armor.

Most of the gear since Burning Crusade has been rather "meh" to me. Of course there's sometimes a nice odd one out and Death Knights got some pretty awesome things in Wrath but in general everything just looks very... Eh, brown and overly cluttered. Most of the time I find myself thinking there is too much cluster in the detailwork in the new sets and not enough "rest" areas. For example: I like the
cataclysmic gladiator helm and shoulders for DKs but the rest of the armor doesn't really look consistent when worn together. The chest is okay and the gloves are fine but the pants start getting way too clustery as well as the boots and the result is that it's not a harmonic ensemble when everything is put together. It looks almost as if one person did the "highlights" of the gear (helm/shoulders) and someone else filled in the rest. The last grumble I have is with the colour use, which is very much a personal preference, but I'd like to see some more properly colour themed gear like some in BC and vanilla. Nowadays most sets seems to have at least three or more shades on them from which one often is a shade of brown and I dislike that personally.
I know there was the problem way back that our characters looked like a mixed bag of candies because of the bright coloured gear that was obtained a bit from over there and some parts from over here, but now that we have transmog we could harmonize the colour scheme ourselves rather than making everything brown & grey just in case.
I find myself 'mogging to vanilla or BC gear most often. The only exception being my DK.

Though I've entertained the idea to build a mog around
this set.

Well its not my favorite but I certainly do like the symmetry. Much more simple then some of their latest stuff. I will just have to hide the helm xD

My 'mog sets have been...a mix of expansions, actually. My current one is Cata-inspired, but is mostly a mix of Cata and Wrath. The cloak is a semi-generic model that's found in a few different expansions. My last one was mainly Ebonhold greens, with Dragon-Quake Shoulderguards from BC and Ancient Bone Bow from vanilla. I'm mixed on whether I'll be a 'cakestalker,' but if I opt against it...there's definitely options, and it would join the list of other sets I just don't really care for when Ziarre wears them (see: Gronnstalker).

I don't like the helmet too much but the rest is pretty neat. I like the chest.
