Got Patrannache at 7:15 pm. Just happened to come across his footprints by Halfhill.
His footprints were going BACKWARDS!!! Keep that in mind!!

Yeah, I noticed some issues with them phasing or possibly being underground. Sylv helped me and I got my Pat now, too.

Definitely had some issues with Savage; specifically, I noticed a lot of his footprints liked to appear mostly underground, too. The majority only showed a toe or two, or maybe the very edge of his heel. Made figuring out his direction a bit difficult, especially on more hilly or dark terrain, and with his love for abruptly changing direction... and at one point, one was actually floating. If I hadn't been trying to get him before one of the many other hunters nearby, I'd have nabbed a few screenshots. My ground clutter was as low as possible, too.

Same, Glimmer has a bottleneck at the river crossing, this is just after the phase bug area as it heads towards the Orchard village. If you find tracks in the cherry blossom area (top right of map) and miss him scoot down to the river crossing marked in the map in this thread and flare camp.

I found Glimmer's tracks but was unable to find him. Finally just gave in and camped him near the wall south of the Orchard. I camped Pat on the tiny island in the river too. I like where they were going with challenge tames but they made the tracking part too hard and the camp and fire flares away part too easy. I'm sure there is some middle ground that could be found in this though.

I generally dont like tames which requires me to think. I was never unable to tame the cata crab just keept dying. I like rares like humar best. A rare who only spawns in one place and dont wanderes around. That way i can put my bootey near the camp spot - log in once in a while and check if he is up. That is my sort of rares and im a bit sad that i probally wont be getting any of the cata or panda rares cause my brain just doenst work on those tames

I have been camping for days for the turtle and finnaly just gave up. I did how ever find Mr. Stompy whom is now my happy little Shisou (shadow). I hope you find Glimmer soon

, my husband wants him to tame.

The tracks are tricky but I've managed to tame Savage and Glimmer(both are considered the hardest too I think). I find it fun, really.

I had great success tracking Bloodtooth and Stompy, but their tracks are the easiest to see, I think. Stompy gave me the run around with all the back tracking he does, but I did eventually find him in a completely mob free area, so that was very considerate of him.
I've had no luck with Patrannache, and I'll be trying for Glimmer soon.

The absolute hardest just on tracking alone are Patrannache and Glimmer, due to their tracks being tiny (especially Pat's....ugh) and getting dropped for large sections of their paths. However, Savage is no slouch, since half the world wants to tame him and his tracks are green on green grass. Portent's tracks are easy to spot (usually), but he goes on the list of difficult tames due to color changing and popularity...plus most people invade the Vale at 87, so the zone is highly populated.....not to mention that half of his path is phased from fresh 90s.
Cases can be made for them all being difficult in their own right (which is what I love about all of them), but on sheer tracking/popularity, that's the general list.

Pat, for me, has been by far the hardest to find. I found him, but it took ages and finding his tracks at all was awful, especially with his insane, twisty path, and all the dang aggressive (and often HUGE, I'm looking at you Mushan that died ON TOP of the tracks) mobs. He was such a nightmare. Glimmer was not easy, especially due to the detailed texture of the ground he often walked on and the phasing issues, but he has several "choke points" that are right between a phased area and an area that's really hard to track through, which lets you camp out fairly easily. Portent… Honestly, I've never *not* found Portent on my realm. xD His tracks are huge and dark, so they're very easy to see, and he has such a short spawn time that you can see him plenty of times in a day. The phasing is irritating, though. x.x

Glimmer was a royal pain, I found his footprints but then lost track of them again. Took me way longer than the other rares because of the ground pattern and all the clutter on the ground in Arboretum, not to mention those annoying wasps. I grabbed him at the far north of his patrol, footprints were easier to spot and there's a bit of a clearing.
My taming thread here.

I have now gotten Savage, Bloodtooth, and the green and cobalt versions of Portent. The only one I really followed was Portent the second time and it seems to me that the tracks he leaves are farther apart than they were on beta. He leaves a track when he changes directions, but very few in between those points. Either they decreased the amount of tracks or some are glitching and going completely underground.

Portent's tracks were always like that. He twists and turns quite often and some do end up partly buried. I think it's due to his walking speed.

It just seems that there are less visible now than on beta. For instance in the area where he walks past the pet battle trainer by the lake before going up the hill and past that tree, I was not able to see a single track. Not even a partial one. On the beta server, there was a track every 20 yards or so, in all areas.
I also think they adjusted his spawn rate. After I tamed the green one, I checked the spawn point for the next 3.5 hours and he never showed back up. He definitely did not respawn within 1-2 hours like some said he was doing at first.

Did you have your settings lowered? I found this to be helpful. :3

The same settings I used on beta and the settings I normally use. Everything on fair except textures high and liquids low.

That's where your problem lies.
Everything should be on low except View distance and environmental detail(those two should be on Ultra). Liquid should be on Fair.

just a silly question - do u need to track their steps or can you "just" make a target macro and find them that way?
