If you want to give it the benefit of the doubt, Myzou, then that's fine. But it would have been more appropriate for us to receive letters regarding our adventures in Pandaria. Even just from a business perspective, it's unwise for Blizzard to bring up a sore point like the last expansion (not a dramatization; we're all aware of how subscriber numbers dropped off during Cata).
And....well, the official forums are a cesspool of drama, aren't they?

Blizzard doesn't have to give us anything at all, of course. It's just the idea that Blizzard's worked hard to pull old subscribers back into the fold and that they should be trying harder to keep them. I'm not talking about more toys, just a little extra effort on the letter to show that they still care about us. It wouldn't've taken long to write something up and it would have presented well. Ah well, little late now.

The subject on my letter actually said 8th Anniversary, though the text is still the same.
I kinda expected that we'd get the same present as last year, so I'm not concerned about that. But I also think they could've at least fully updated the letter. It would not take that much time. Considering the letter already exists, editing it would take as long as editing a post on this forum. Even if Blizz is really busy atm, the choice wouldn't be "update the letter or design a raid". Just five minutes of someone's time to change the Deathwing reference into something about pandaren.
Not a big deal, but it bugs me a little.

Poor Blizz can't seem to do anything without everyone having a gripe at them for it

Not so much griping but just disappointed. It's the game's bday so you'd think they'd wanna do more to celebrate it. Sad to hear that they didn't even bother to update the letter.

No gripes from me or most people if they had updated the letter.

I would hesitate to say "most," since there is a vocal group of players who would be unhappy regardless, but I think it's fair to say that a number of us here in this specific community would be satisfied with an updated letter.

The point is they didnt update the letter. Plain and simple. After almost 8 years of paying for two accounts I think that I have earned the right to feel that it is lame that they didnt take the time to write a one minute updated mail. Im fine with the gift that was given, but this is just thoughtless on their part. No they dont owe us anything, yes we pay to play and yes they do the work to give us the content. The point of the anniversary is its like a birthday for wow and they in the past have used it to honor us paying players that have stuck by them through thick and thin to keep their game going. Without us they wouldn't have the community they have and they wouldnt have the paychecks they are getting. So bottom line some people see it as a slap in the face. Thats just my two cents.

*not bothering to read the pages cause she is lazy right now*
I personally like EXP buffs, I am trying to level my priest as fast as I can and it's come in handy. Mostly.
I would've liked a companion though.

Ah true. I should've specified 'most people I know'. We all know people on the official forums will complain regardless.

Seriously, how should Blizzard respond? It seems the whole world is taking a big fat dump on them over dailies and crz, any wonder they don't feel like jumping for joy over this birthday.
Sorry if it seems like I'm coming off snarky or something, but isn't everyone over all this nitpick whinging that's been going on lately? Big deal, they didn't rewrite a couple of lines of text, the community reaction to it is as flippin absurd as my reaction here.
Whatever.

I think the main reason Blizz gets so much grief about things is because unlike games where you buy the game and then can play it how ever long or little you want and never have to spend another dime on it, WoW not only requires you buy the game, but pay a monthly subscription fee as well. So, Players do feel like that warrants some extra attention to its Clientel.
Considering that a few years ago, vanity pets were rewarded to players who logged in during the WoW anniversary, blizz themselves set a certain expected standard for anniversaries. However, the last few have been somewhat lackluster with a temporary buff, and nothing to really show afterwards.
And that no-one even bothered to update the letter to reflect the current expansion, well it seems a bit disrespectful to players. People who pay for things, expect better service then that.

I think there's a key distinction that's missing here. There are two possible negative reactions to the birthday offerings. The first is basically how we're reacting here: we're disappointed that a new personal gesture was missing. The second is what you're seeing on the official forums: Blizzard is being lazy (and other, more unkind, things). One of these reactions is reasonable and the other is whining.
There's a huge difference between demanding more perks for WoW's birthday that require significant amounts of time and effort and wishing that someone had taken five minutes to write something nice.

I for one am just happy we got something.
I honestly didn't read the letter, but it wouldn't have bothered me anyways.
Blizzard could just as easily say nope, not doing a thing this anniversary and only do something on the 10th year. *shrug*
Seems an odd thing to get really worked up over-not that anyone is from what I've skimmed here on these forums.

I don't believe most people here are getting "worked up", just expressing their mild disappointment. The problem is that so many people posting gives the impression of an angry mob
I'm only referring to this thread, however. The official WoW forums are a stage for people who manipulate through exaggerated indignation. They're not worth even taking seriously.

Yeah, I was speaking more about the official forums then anything else. *shrug* Mostly the reason I don't even bother going there anymore, unless I have a serious bug. Petopia is much less chaotic.

Oh, right, the rep bonus.
The big question is if it stacks with guild perks / the Thanksgiving 10% rep buff also going on right now if you eat all the food.
I have a death knight very slowly working on her Insane title that may take advantage of all this...

What really cracks me up is that not only are people finding something to criticize about it, they are totally ignoring the fact that it is WoW's anniversary. Since when do you give other people gifts on your birthday? The gall to expect something on somebody ELSE's birthday, lol.
Anyway, I didn't see any cinderkitten on the store. Unless it was just a one day deal that is already gone which I think would be rather stupid. I was all about helping WoW help Frankenstorm Sandy relief efforts.

That's how birthdays for games work.

Fun for everyone!

It hasn't been made available yet, so you haven't missed it.

there you go folks, blizzard didn't forget you, they didn't mean to break your dear little hearts and leave you feeling snubbed.
yep, time for me to get the hell off all internet forums for a while.
