New post from the forums:
Yup, we're hoping to allow you to transmogrify items that share animations, like polearms and staves, so main hand/one hand won't be an issue any more once this goes live. Still aiming for 5.2 as far as I know.

Your wish is about to be granted:
Transmogrification rules have been broadened for several weapon types.

- Two-handed axes, maces, and swords can be Transmogrified to each other.
- One-handed axes, maces, and swords can be Transmogrified to each other.
- Staves and polearms can be transmogrified to each other.
That's great news for me, no more having to find one of each weapon type to go with a given mog. Now, if only someone could whisper "let players mog white and grey quality items" in the right dev's ear...

I wish we could get swords to daggers/vice versa! I just recently picked up Felsteel Longblade recipe, and I've always wanted my rogue to have ninja swords. :D But this is still awesome news. It means that even my feral druid can now do a proper transmog with his beautiful leafy staff.

I'm actually annoyed Daggers are being left out, just because it means more issues finding matching xmog for my rogue, due to combat and assassination.

I can understand why daggers are left out. They have an animation completely different than swords. But I wonder if daggers = Fist Weapons...

Sadly fist weapons share an animation with your character's unarmed animation, which is different altogether from the dagger animation.

On a related note, I still wish they'd allow polearms to be grouped with other two handed weapons. Give our strength users polearms back, goshdarnit!

They said on twitter they were working on that.

Probably going to be done when Fist/dagger xmog with other 1hs is done. Lol.

They have to do a whole coding/etc. rewrite for weapon xmogs for them.

My mage would love to see it happen--she picked up a lovely sword, but can't transmog to it until/unless the Sha-Touched sword drops. :< Spellpower swords sadly uncommon!

DARNIT! So rogues are still left out of the 'extra transmog' loop? Sadface. :( I'll just have to use my terrifying daggers in the mean time.

Ah this makes me happy and sad well mainly for my rogue since it's combat/assassination. Least now if i'm using two maces I can make them swords or axes! "not a fan of maces cept a few models" The sad part is the can't X-mog daggers into fists or anything. Well maybe next patch they'll figure something out.

Casters too! Since priests can't use swords or axes, and mages/warlocks can't use maces or axes, they're all in 'has to be the same type to transmog' boat along with non-Combat rogues.

Has this been checked on the test servers? By that, I mean has a caster tried to turn their staff into a polearm? Or a priest attempting to turn their 1 handed mace into a 1handed axe or sword? I know commonsense would dictate that they shouldn't be able to, but thought I'd ask anyways.

I believe you need to be able to equip an item in order to transmog to it, so I don't think this is possible.

I think only druids and monks will be able to use that staff -> Polearm mogging.

And hunters, as I think we retained all our weaponskills, we just can't use ranged skills with them equipped. :P

Wait wait wait wait you can?

YOU CAN?!

Okay maybe not really but this is really, really, really exciting because I far prefer bow models to gun models and I never knew this.

Yeah, it's been like that for us since the beginning of transmog. :)

My pally will be especially happy with this, as she'll finally be able to hold that sweet 2H mace that matches her Justicar set :)
And maybe my DK, too, to mog that strange axe-thing into her old beloved runeblade.

That's actually something that's been puzzling me a bit. We can xmog bows into xbows/guns and vice versa, even though those animations are pretty different. Is it mainly the special attack animations that are holding things up with daggers/fists?
