Ahahahahaaha! Gold!

Scene 8: One frame frozen for almost a minute, then the audience is presented with the intro scene again.
Scene 9: Half an hour of city views from Dalaran/Stormwind/Orgrammar while we're waiting for anything to happen.
Scene 10: Our heroes are at the auction house furiously scribbling prices on pieces of paper and consulting last week's pile of such papers. Very occasionally they actually interact with an auctioneer. While this is going on someone comes in and puts down a toy choo-choo train, and for some reason our heroes and everyone else seem compelled to play with it. This happen repeatedly for no particular purpose. David Lynch is suspected.

Meanwhile, anyone who's had to go to the bathroom return only to get a stamp on their forehead saying "Deserter" and isn't allowed back in to see the rest of the movie.

They said a while ago that the events would take place before anything in WoW and that it would be from the Alliance perspective, most likely human. They have also said that it will be live action and not animated or all CGI based. Of course it will have CGI elements though.

At one point Sam Raimi of Hercules, Xena, and the Evil Dead fame had signed on to direct it. This gave rise to speculation that Bruce Campbell would have some kind of role. Unfortunately, Blizzard dragged their feet and Raimi moved on to other projects.

It's good to see that the ball has started rolling again but I wish Raimi was still involved. I have never heard of this new director and they said the new producer did The Dark Knight Rises which to me is not a ringing endorsement. I thought it was possibly the worst Batman movie of them all. It dragged out way too long and made Batman too weak and vulnerable. Only the last 30 minutes or so were really good and the way the villain Bane was "defeated" was really lame in my opinion.

I hope the Warcraft movie turns out good and I know I will watch it.

Mark my words: it's gonna be an alternate universe with the Horde as bad guys (and Thrall being possibly the only honorable guy in there) and Varian being the good guy trying to destroy the Horde. If we're unlucky, it will be all about a WoW player who gets sucked into the game's universe and he becomes the hero, defeats the Horde and Thrall bows to him, "understanding his mistakes".

1. Duncan Jones - son of David Bowie, director of the critical smash "Moon" and the Jake Gyllenhaal vehicle "Source Code". So not exactly an unknown.

2. A Producer does the following: "A producer begins by obtaining the rights to create or co-create a feature-length screenplay. The producer oversees the process, which includes coordinating, supervising and controlling major aspects of the project. This includes fundraising and hiring key roles such as the casting director or film director. They'll also influence the hiring of other personnel such as the UPM or line producer and accountant." If you think the producer of Dark Knight Rises didn't do an adequate job, then you don't really understand the role of producer.

Speaking for myself, I'm only disappointed that the film will probably take an Alliance-centric view of Azeroth. There is so much to tell about the World of Warcraft, it's impossible to do it justice in a 2-3 hour film. BUT, I'm still looking forward to it. Especially now that Sam Raimi is out of the equation. I am not a fan of his.

I also have mixed feelings about this. There are a few story arcs that would make an incredible movie, but it is difficult to picture what the movie could be like, beyond the obvious line of 'human hero takes on some orcs and a big bad', possibly with a band of comrades. It would be great if they chose an existing pre-World of Warcraft story, but I don't really see it happening.

I suppose we should wait until we have any sort of information to judge, but they are definitely going to have a hard time rivalling the music of the game; those soundtracks are epic. I get a shiver every time I watch the first trailer, just listening to that piece.

Still have never heard of him or either one of those movies. I still would rather have Raimi. He would have been good at doing the action and adding in some humor which as we all know is part of the WoW experience.

Also, most producers do not let themselves get pigeonholed and take a much more hands on approach than you describe. You did say that they are involved in creating the screenplay which was the major flaw in Dark Knight Rises. The acting was fine but the story just was not.

I was really looking forward to Bruce Campbell maybe being in the Warcraft movie. I pictured him as a grizzled Warrior Trainer. Saying things like "In my day, we took on a dozen Orcs single handed with only a broken sword and the top of a crate for a shield. You ladies are all wimps".

no. I didn't say they are involved in "creating the screenplay". read again. producers HIRE people. they RARELY if ever actually take a hands-on approach to the creative side of things, unless they happen to be one of the writers or the director to start with. For example, Steven Spielberg will produce his own films (with Melissa Matheson, his producing partner).
SOME producers try to get involved in the creative process and generally ruin the project in question (see Alien3). But those producers who do get involved generally do so after-the-fact, demanding cuts, changes, etc... (which was the case re: Alien 3) They almost never have a direct hand in creating any element of the film (again, unless they also happen to be the writers/directors of the film).

Christopher Nolan, with his brother Jonathan, and David S. Goyer, wrote The Dark Knight Rises.
Chrisopher Nolan is also one of the producers, along with 8 other people who had no hand in the creative process itself. If you didn't like TDKR, then blame the director and the writer. Not the producers.

And Bruce Campbell is one of the reasons I am IMMENSELY relieved that Sam Raimi is NOT directing the WoW movie. Raimi would have had him spewing the exact same trite clichéd phrases he always does.

I guess we're simply going to have to agree to disagree.

By the way, I absolutely HATED The Dark Knight Rises
